Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An absolutely amazing find. It was a horrible day on Monday, so we didn’t want to go far. We actually had a cream tea at The Lugger Hotel for lunch & we were all Very disappointed, so definitely would not recommend. We had seen a...sign for The Ship Inn & decided to go there for dinner. We were met by a lovely lady called Lorraine, who made us feel very welcome. We ordered drinks & food. I had steak & ale pie - which was so amazing I had it all 3 times we went in for dinner this week. My husband had buttermilk chicken pretzel burger - which he really enjoyed so he had it twice this week. My father in law had sausage & mash - which he enjoyed very much so had it twice this week. The food is amazing. The chef(s) know how to make very tasty home cooked food. Much better than places like Brewers Fayre etc…. Everything was hot & fresh. If you like good home cooked food & a friendly welcoming atmosphere then The Ship Inn will not disappoint. A special thanks to Lorraine (I’m really hoping I’ve remembered the lady’s name right 🙈, so very sorry if i haven’t ).More

We called to check if they had a table 10 minutes before we got to The Ship Inn and a very welcoming lady recognised our voice from the phone call as soon as we stepped into the pub and showed us to the table she’d...set aside for us. There were a fair few people in the pub, many obviously locals, and there was a nice atmosphere. The menu has a wide range of dishes, with traditional pub fare of pies, steak, fish and chips to burgers and salads. Very generous portions. Jam roll poly seemed to be a popular desert on the night we called in. There is a nice pub garden with plenty of seating and everyone was relaxed and enjoying their meals.More

I cannot rate The Ship Inn highly enough. We are walking the SWCP and after a very long days walk in the heat staggered into The Ship Inn where we were greeted by Lorraine who couldn’t make us feel more welcome. After a pint of...cold ale they heartily agreed we could camp in their pub garden! This was most welcome! We had a delicious dinner, the service was fantastic, the team are so attentive. We had breakfast the next day which set us up for our next leg. Thank you Lorraine, you are a super host!More

What a wonderful place Portloe is. A perfect Cornish cove. Unfortunately the Pub does badly! It was a cold Wednesday evening. No fire , very unwelcoming. The menu looked all DFF (Deep fat fryer) style food. So we ordered a medium glass of White wine...(S V) and a pint of Ale -£15.00 -a joke. So we left and went to the New Inn Veryan. Much betterrMore

On a wet and very windy evening we popped in to the Ship for drink and a meal and left a couple of hours later having had a delicious pie and mash for me and an equally lovely fish and chips for my wife. A...nice friendly venue we’d go back to again when next in that part of lovely Cornwall.More

Visited here as we were staying locally at the caravan and camping club site a mile up the road. Lovely traditional pub, staff are super friendly and food was excellent. Turned out to be quiz night the first night we visited (quiz every Wednesday) and...we were invited to take part which was good fun. Even though the place was packed, we didn’t have to wait long for food and the staff were really efficient. The roads leading to the pub are very narrow, so take care, but the pub has its own car park which is a bonus. Locals were very friendly and welcoming too. Would recommend booking as the pub is relatively small. Garden looks good and quite large, but we had constant rain whilst we were down here so weren’t brave enough to sit outside!More

This is a great old Cornish pub (with some accommodation) in a fabulous location , it’s really well run by two lovely guys . The place is immaculate, cosy and friendly. Me and my husband went in for drinks and lunch after a long rainy...walk, it was a welcome find on a gloomy day and we are looking forward to returning so we can sit in the beer garden in the sunshine !More

We were staying in Portloe for the week and regularly used the Ship Inn for drinks and ate here one evening. We were made to feel very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed each of our visits. As a St.Austell brewery pub, you get the usual good...range of beers, well kept; however, there's also for a small establishment a fair wine choice. We were lucky enough to persuade our hosts to put a pie on the menu for Wednesday night (and this was a proper pie, none of your puff pastry on top of a stew), which was excellent (with generous veg serving). Definitely recommend a visit and a few jars if you're not driving!More

After an arduous 5 mile coastal walk, like a mirage in the desert, the Ship Inn came into view and the thought of a nice cold pint of Tribute actually kept me going on the last leg of the walk. The landlord gave us a...very warm welcome and we ordered our drinks and duly sat down with our drinks to watch the 6 Nations rugby match. We were suddenly hit by the lovely smell of delicious food from the neighbouring table. Although the pub had stopped serving food, with a look of starvation and desperation on our faces, the landlord took pity on us and kindly agreed to take our order. To summarise taking in the atmosphere, the beer and food. All in all it was a 5 star experience. Ps we cannot wait to return.More

The food and the local ales were very good on a recent visit in July, the staff were also very attentive. The alternative if you’re feeling flush isThe Lugger Hotel, fantastic food and a lovely location.

To be honest, I don’t recall seeing anything as such on the menu. It may just be worth a call to the pub to see what, if anything, they can do. The landlord is a very accommodating chap and I’m sure he’ll help if he can.

There is a small dedicated car park next to the pub, you will be able to park there. It’s a matter of a few yards away.
