Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We called in just for a drink but the staff were so nice and the food was so reasonably priced we decided to have dinner. One had ham egg and chips which was delicious but 3 of us went for the curry and we were...so glad we did. It was amazing and I highly recommend this pub for a great evening out.More

Best curry we have had in a long time. We had Old Dehli chicken curry and Chicken shaslik massala both were spicy and full of flavour. Would recomend both. We will be back soon. Thank you

Service was excellent. Waiters were really friendly. Food was superb! Best curry we've ever tasted. Very authentic and beautifully flavoursome. We all had a lovely time and will definitely visit again very soon. Thank you all at Sir John Barleycorn.

Having stayed in and around the New Forest for many years for family breaks, we have now pinpointed all the good places to eat in, and the Sir John Barleycorn is right up there with the best. It’s not often that I will put myself...out to write a review about a restaurant, however, there are exceptions, and this is one of them. Our food was absolutely amazing, myself and my son had a curry that was one of the best we’ve ever had, and our local Indian takeaway restaurant has recently won an award for being the best takeaway in the country. My daughter ordered the seafood linguine, which made me extremely jealous when I saw it, and my wife was gushing over her sea bass for the rest of our holiday. The only downside is that we don’t live near enough to visit the Sir John Barleycorn more often. If you’re in the area, and enjoy a very good meal, in a really pleasant atmosphere, make sure to pay them a visit.More

You will travel a long way to enjoy Indian food of this standard. My partner and I have been three times since the present owners arrived and every time it has been a delight. The food is fantastic. The staff are friendly, polite and offer...just the right level of attention. Keep doing what you're doing!More

I had heard this place did Indian food and was a bit sceptical. A country pub serving Indian food? Well. It was fantastic! The quality far surpasses your usual Indian takeaway. The ingredients are fresh and the curry is bursting with flavour. This place is...easily on par with a real quality Indian restaurant. We will be back to try the rest of the menu!More

Excellent & friendly service and it's very rare to find a pub that serves proper Indian curries. Spacious seating in a traditional timber beamed pub with a vast choice of good beer, which you don't get in most curry restaurants. Worth a try.
