Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I visited Ray's for the first time on Saturday 9th March at 18.00. On arrival my wife and I both noticed how cold the resturant was. We were seated on a table for two next to the main entrance. Every time the...door was opened the resturant became colder. there was a small stove but as soon as somone sat in front of the stove the heat was restricted. The area we were sat in was also the waiting area for customers arriving, removing coats, waiting to be seated etc. Unfortunatly I was sat with my back towards the waiting area and was hit in the back of the head three times once with a handbag and three coats being removed, there were no apoligies from any one. The area near the door is simply to small and too cold to have diners sitting as well as people waiting to be seated. I fully understand the need to have as many covers as posible but I think the seating needs to be reviewed. The food was good but the portions were small compared to other local Italian resturants in the area and the prices were a little more expensive. A 12.5% service charge was automatically added to the bill which I asked to be removed . I beleive that the leaving of a tip should be a reward of good servive not automatically added to the bill. I had high hopes of the evening before I went however these were not met.More

Had a great family dinner here. The restaurant fills up quickly in the evenings and has a lively feel. The food is very good and fairly priced, the service attentive. One of the best restaurants in the Lymington / Milford area.

I will start this review on a positive note. We booked back in mid November for brunch on Christmas Eve. We had a lovely brunch served by lovely and friendly staff. Ray’s is always a favourite with us and the food and service cannot be...faulted. However, we were very disappointed by the attitude of one member of staff upon our arrival. All was fine when we were shown to our ‘reserved’ table. The problem was our table was right by the door and, although we had initially accepted this placing, it became clear once we were seated that it was draughty and customers at the counter were bumping into the back of my seat. Another table nearby became available and we asked to be moved. The smiles of welcome disappeared to replaced by a very abrupt response as if we were being a nuisance, not a paying customer. Some muttering of “being busy” and “I have my bookings to look after” and “I’ll have to check” were directed at us until we pointed that we had booked back in November! Only then were we told that “we could be fitted in on a table at the back of the restaurant”. This area turned out to be nearly empty all the time we were there. This table was fine, in a cosy corner. Christmas music playing in the background. I do not like having to make negative comments about Ray’s Kitchen but this is not the first time there has been a problem. Our daughter and her husband went for a meal in late November and were greeted with a similar abrupt manner. I was going to have a word with the manager/owner but it turned out the abrupt person was the manager. Awkward!More

We always head for Ray’s whenever we’re in the New Forest - we live 60 miles away or we’d be there every week! Tonight we enjoyed the prawn spaghetti and the meat ragu (which I had with spaghetti rather than pappardelle) - both delicious. I...really wanted the bean and pasta soup as a starter too but I knew I’d never manage both. Great food, friendly service and a lovely atmosphere - well worth a visit!More

Rainy November evening in the sleepy Hampshire seaside village and we enjoyed yet another meal at Ray's Italian Kitchen. The restaurant have been running a special offer with their lasagne dinner which was so tasty and staff gave us their usual friendly greeting and service....Whilst we have eaten at this restaurant a number of times, we often visit just to take coffee and find it relaxing. I don't normally bother to give reviews but on this occasion I wanted to as it was worthy of the maximum stars. Mark Laming.More

As we're staying nearby, fancied a lunchtime pizza takeaway. I had the diavolo, and it was mindblowingly good - amazing taste, just the right amount of heat. Mrs B had the prosciutto and declared it the best pizza she'd EVER eaten. When I went to...collect, spied some desserts in the cabinet by the till, and the call of the chocolate, pear frangipani was just too much - absolutely gorgeous. Massive recommendation, we'll definitely be backMore
