Had a meal with some family and friends here tonight (there were 14 of us, 6 adults and 8 kids) and the first word that comes to mind in terms of overall experience is WOW!
A beautifully designed interior of a beautifully old building with some modern quirks - like a yurt - was just the start of what was an excellent evening.
As a large group with a bunch of excited kids we were delighted to have been given the privacy of what felt like a totally private dining experience in the Yurt - which overlooked a beautiful garden area.
The kids were easily pleased with very yummy and plentiful portions of Scampi and Chips and also some burgers too.
My wife had a fillet steak which was cooked to perfection and served with very rustic skin on chips (homemade too may I add) and a Jus with the heartiest of depth to it. YUM!
I opted for the Beef Burger with Bacon and Cheese. I always go for a burger on my first visit to a restaurant as a sort of gauge for how good the kitchen is with what is such a simple yet easy to get wrong item. Safe to say it was a 10/10. Perfectly moist burger, crispy bacon and a healthy wad of melted cheddar cheese and some of those chips I mentioned earlier too.
To top it all off, the staff couldn’t have been nicer and went out of their way to make sure that we and the kids all had everything we needed whilst still giving us the right amount of privacy too.
I literally cannot wait to go back and sample the rest of the menu before they change it for next season.

Nice venue, great staff. Some of the food was excellent, like our starters and my fish finger sandwhich which was far superior than I expected.
However, the venision burgers were just oversized slabs of meat with no flavour at all. Pity.

Amazing menu which exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail was great and the gluten free options were exceptional and so tasty. The staff were keen to ensure that skin on fries and gluten free onion rings were cooked in a separate fryer. Very much appreciated . The atmosphere was spot on . Highly recommend to eat here you will not be disappointed . We will be back before we head back home . Also dog friendly water was brought for our dog as soon as we were seated .

Very good location, ambience and friendly accommodating staff.
We sat by the fire on New Year’s Day ordered a seafood platter for one and a meat platter, with a decent IPA and sparkling water. Both platters were good but we did notice that we both left behind bread and crackers as there wasn’t enough food to mop that up with . This then made the platters and drinks quite expensive .

We made an impromptu visit for a bar lunch having been there on two previous (pre-Covid) occasions with friends, when we had an excellent experience.
We were impressed by being efficiently received by an energetic and friendly young girl. The ambience was all that one would expect from a country hostelry with a welcoming warm open fire.
Due to shortage of time we decided on a single course each.
My wife had Shetland mussels, which, although small, were tasty and in a nicely flavoured sauce.
My "large" portion of scallops was served in a "large" plate with a countable number of very small scallops, smaller than "queenies" minus roes. They were carefully distributed around the plate interspersed with small deposits of mayo. A centre block of potato had 3 small scallops on top and the chef had sprinkled some grains of black pudding on top.
Disconcertingly, there were what appeared to be grains of black pudding sealed to the plate and left in situ.
Altogether it was quite pretty but underwhelming. Particularly disappointing was the portion and size of what should have been the main ingredient i.e. scallops.
What was not underwhelming was the cost of £26!
As the late chef Paul Bocuse famously said "Too little on the plate, Too much on the bill!"

Very nice pub! Does plenty of the classic food and drinks but has a great selection of alternative dishes too. We shared the ox cheek and tail fritters to start which were lovely. My boyfriend had the half ribs, they fell off the bone and came with nice, crunchy chips. I had the pan-fried cod with miso and sweetcorn puree which was fantastic, wiped the plate clean! The ladies which were working were very pleasant and did all they could to help us. Nice atmosphere and buzz about the place. Would recommend and go back.

Nice village pub with a great outdoor seating area. Food was good but didn’t like the fact that all vegetables and potatoes were added on as extras/sides when ordering your main course.
We were seated in the yurt right next to the wood burner, which was cosy and a lovely touch and we found the Staff helpful and attentive.
I would think about going again but to be honest it would only be if we couldn’t get booked in at other restaurants in the area that we felt were better value for money.

The setting is beautiful and the exterior and interior is lovely and very atmospheric. The prices are pretty high and the menu is quite unusual (in a good creative way) in some ways so we had high expectations. The servers were nice but the actual service was poor. Two wrong items ordered and three items forgotten. It took quite a while to get anyone's attention. The drinks were presented in quite a bog-standard and could have been made much more appealing. A nice cocktail menu would really have gone down well and the drinks menu is quite uninspiring. Most of the food was presented nicely but was pretty average and the other meals were just thrown on the plate. The dessert was terrible. Like I say, it's a lovely setting but could (and should for the prices) do much better. The food and drinks across the road at the Kitchen Window are far more memorable and worth the money.

We came here without the children for dinner. We hadn’t been in a few months and £130 later we left feel slightly deflated. A fond fan of “the pig”, venison etc the menu is now more “pub” . Everything was nice and staff very friendly just not what we had expected. We had to return the chicken wings as there was no flavour at all. My husband returned the next night for fish, and again it was “ nice” just not amazing! Our expectations were high, and it just wasn’t as great as it has been!

Judging by the reviews it would appear that we visited on an ‘off’ night. Had visited previously during the day and had a slightly better experience. This evening we attended the service was diabolical, there were too few staff for the amount of customers and priority was given to larger groups and tourist who arrived after we were seated (found our own seats because the waiter was busy playing on his phone). I went to the bar to try get drinks, the bar man looked through me and walked outside. I then approached the waiter who although we had spoken to him 20 minutes previously when we arrived asked if we had a booking…perhaps he was new but he honestly hadn’t a breeze what was going on. 40 minutes later we got our starters which was a simple bread board- was ok, you can’t really mess up bread, mains were served quickly enough however clearly had been sat under a heat-lamp for a while, also had items on the plate we asked to leave off. We didn’t bother with dessert. First night out on our own in years and we spent most of the night laughing about how bad it was, at least we had that. Not sure we would return except for cake from the attached shop.

This has been my local since I was a lad, and it's always been a great wee pub with lovely food and a busy restaurant, but it's been significantly improved and expanded over the past few years and has really stepped up a level as a result. Having not been in since before lockdown, we recently went for a long overdue meal in the snug bar and it was quite simply some of the best food that I've eaten in years!
In the past the menu has on occasion been a little too fancy for its own good (imo), particularly if you were in the bar and just wanted some simple pub fare, but the current menu is spot on and has all the bases covered... So much so that it took about 20 mins of hard deliberation before I caved and let the waiter the decide for me! I needent have worried though, as the lamb was out of this world, and my partners breaded ham hock was similarly devine. Despite reservations re portion size there was plenty of both and having given it our best effort, we still had to take some home in a 'doggy' bag. We had celeriac fritters with blue murder sauce to start which were also fantastic, and the classic sticky toffee pudding to finish it all off, accompanied by some of their lovely local ales.
The venue itself has been restyled throughout and the addition of the yurt and extensive garden seating have added some lovely areas that really compliment the building, and offer considerably more capacity. The staff were also all excellent, attentive and well trained.
All in all, despite a small touch of local bias, I do think you'll struggle to find a better eatery in the vicinity, and that you'd be hard pushed to have a bad meal, or receive poor service here.

I ate lunch here as part of a large family group and we were seated in the large attached yurt where we could all be together comfortably.
We had pre selected our food and so after being seated we were quicky served our starters. All the dishes were very good, a wide range of choices on the menu. You can have sandwiches, pizzas or larger dishes.
Service was efficient and friendly.
The mains were of a good size, again a good choice.
One of the main dishes had been forgotten so one of our party had a bit of a wait, but apologies were made and it wasn't a big problem.
The meal was a success, we weren't rushed and the desserts were also very good.
No issues at all with our meal, except that the proportions were a bit big for me!
I would recommend this restaurant, they have a lovely outside area where you can sit on warm days. It has a good sized car park and a nice situation within the village.
Our family have eaten there a few times and each time was very enjoyable.

We had a table booked for 5.30pm, waited an hour and a half before any food arrived. I am not sure what happened to our order but those that arrived after us, were served first. My coeliac wife was served normal bread instead of gluten free. Then her main course which was marked on the menu as gluten free burger turned out not to be gluten free.
I hate to give a local business a bad review but this was a total disaster of a night
She is now ill. She has spent most of the time since we got home, throwing up , she will hopefully only have vomiting and diarrhoea for a few hours, but it could go on for 2-3 days
I would be grateful if you if you could point out to your staff that serving gluten to a person with coeliac disease is not an "oops sorry" moment. It is going to make that person very ill. When my wife ordered, she told the server that she was coeliac, she ordered only food that was marked on the menu as GF. When the starter arrived , she checked that it was a gluten free meal. I am not sure what more responsibilty she is supposed to take for her own health I assume that you take food allergies and their consequences serioursly, I would hope that in future your staff training will ensure that no one else with coeliac disease will suffer as my wife is tonight

Parking is closeby.
Indoor and outdoor service. Various types of seating from benches to picnic tables to booths to rocking chairs. This was dog-friendly
We ended up with multiple servers which did cause confusion but they were all polite, and acknowledgeable.
The menu is not overly large but the portions and drinks are of decent serving size. Some meals were so large that we had no problem sharing around the table.
Despite the people, it is spaced out enough where people can feel cozy and comfy and have a decent conversation.

Went there several nights ag with a large group of friends. People mostly enjoyed their food, aside from a grainy chocolate ice cream for dessert. Unfortunately, the evening was soured by several members of staff. Some were extremely polite and welcoming, other however were not. One staff member was particularly short with members of the table, with little provocation. The incident that stuck out the most to me was when one person asked to swap out their burger bun for one that didn't have mayonnaise on it, a she has an egg allergy and the burger wasn't listed on the menu as having mayonnaise in it. While I recognize that she should have mentioned this to the staff prior to this, and returning food does inconvenience the staff, I still don't feel the rude response was justified. I do also recognise that these current times are stressful for people in the service industry, and we were a large table, and they could simply have just been having a bad night, but the attitude of the wait staff did resonate with me more than any other part of the evening.
