Went there for a meal on the 5/2/20 and it was absolutely stunning. Me and my partner had a 3 course meal. We both had steaks and they were cooked to perfection everyone was very friendly and the waitress done an excellent job serving us could not fault anything. Would highly recommend this pub. Thank you for an excellent evening will definitely be visiting here again.

The pub is a genuine 'local' with a range of reasonably priced drinks and meals. In my view, the notable thing about the menu is that it offers both classic pub standards and some additional more interesting choices, particularly those using locally resourced products. I ate here twice. The service is very good and the landlord is chatty and very welcoming.

Don’t normally write these but after such a amazing welcome felt had to. Had a family meal with 9 of us , 3 have special needs , all staff were amazing with everyone , one of best welcomes we’ve had anywhere. And the food was amazing have struggled for years to find a good steak locally and they nailed it here seasoned and cooked to perfection. Can’t recommend enough especially during these difficult times they seem to have gone above and beyond to provide a safe and welcoming environment for every one

We went for a last minute lunch. We arrived at 1pm (the restaurant was very quiet, one other table and us) we ordered pretty promptly (fish finger sarnies all around) 1.30 the food still had not arrived. 1.45 it finally came, looked very promising, good size portions if, a little, too much fish. But sadly we really disappointed. When ordering I specifically asked if the fish was cod in which the young waiter confirmed it was. It wasn’t, it was very “fishy” tasting (maybe pollock) and also still had the skin on which really put us all off. You don’t expect that on fish fingers (homemade or not!). When they came to clear up, they never even asked how the meal was, my sister left one half of her sandwich untouched. Now, that should have been called up on? But no the owner simply cleared our plates (one plate being completely full of discarded fish skin). We asked for the bill and the other owner then came to take payment, again, not asking how our meals were. We hate to complain so I personally didn’t feel I could comment on the meal as there was no input from them. You would expect them to ask was everything okay - especially as we had all left most of the meals. Then, when exiting my son and I exited through the front door, when the owner shouted over that we had to leave through the back. There was absolutely no COVID guidelines such as arrows or stickers to clearly say it was a one way system. I would never return here. It seemed quite a “clicky” pub with only locals in there.

Thank you so much for your constructive comments.
All of which will have been noted and acted upon.
Being the first person to complain about the Fish Finger sandwich and also the quality of the fish we must take this very seriously. We ONLY stock fresh Cod (fresh in that morning) we will make sure in future it isn't Pollock disguised as Cod.
If you cared to look up at all when exiting you would have seen the exit signs, and to say our COVID compliance is nothing but exemplary is a bit of a joke. We have been visited on numerous occasions by the Local Authority and have followed every rule required of us.
As for the service, you seem to have forgotten when I checked on the table and the only member of your party that seemed willing to converse was the young boy.
I must also apologise for the fantastic relationship we have built with our regular customers, I didn't realise this could cause offense.

Excellent food, polite and friendly service! We found the Red Lion via a search engine and we were not disappointed. Can definitely recommend the Fish & Chips and Gammon which came with a choice of egg or pineapple; my partner wanted both and they happily obliged. Felt very safe and happy with the cleanliness/hand sanitisers and distancing measures in place. Pleasant surroundings, thank you for a lovely meal.

Lovely atmosphere in the pub, plenty of seating inside but could do with bigger tables in the bar area, we had dogs with us and I expect that’s why it was a little smaller in fairness.
Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, very welcoming and took time to chat to us as visitors to the area about our stay. We felt very welcome.
FOOD WAS FANTASTIC! Couldn’t have wished for better, fantastic portion sizes and flavours bought to us quickly but not so quick that you felt anything was microwaved...it clearly wasn’t!
A brilliant bar selection too. They have a lovely seating area outside which must be fantastic when the sun is out and shining.
The only downside was that one toilet was out of action so everyone had to use the women’s. Toilets break and the pub have created a system to keep the toilets a safe space. Hopefully that’ll be fixed soon.
Great pub, well worth a visit! We would definitely return!!

Visited for dinner recently & the food & standard of service was excellent. Always when I visit the greeting from the moment you step foot over the threshold, to your order being taken it is memorable.
Christmas Day was tremendous & this is the fifth year we spent in the company of friends including Hugh & his team @ the Red Lion ... they really have a very good commodity. We are very lucky to have such a special place locally !

There are some things in life you must do; see the great wall of China, fall in love and visit The Red Lion in Llandybie.
Not only was the food and drink well priced, but it was to an incredibly high standard. The fish & chips and cheesecake were delicious.
Beyond the food, every single member of staff cared about what they did, and were more than happy to take time and chat with you.
I would honestly say this is my favorite pub I have ever been to, and I might even make the 3 hour drive just to have those fish and chips again!

Visited twice (ring to pre-book a table), good menu and portion sizes are Welsh (large) , first visit there was a birthday party so the kitchen was running late; we were advised of this when arriving and took drinks in the bar. Menu offered and food order taken before seating. On this occasion we had buffalo cauliflower and sour sauce, then one steak and one lamb meal - both offered with choice of potatoes. We couldn't do the meal full justice (shouldn't have had the starter...); second visit we shared a starter (cheese and dip) then I had the chicken burger (pretzel burger) with salad and sides and halloumi toping. Recommended to visit but be careful on opening hours and food service times - check first on the website.

Super pub in a quiet village, as others have mentioned this pub is more than dog tolerant it's a real dog loving place to be with every member of staff making huge fusses over our mini labradoodle Doogie who fell in love with Huw . he even got his own menu. and water bought to his liking. food was great too home made and did not taste just warmed up. but also the regulars who all chatted to us and made our week here in Wales just lovely. if you are in the area and looking for a dog friendly pub this is the best.

After numerous amazing takeaway meals during lockdown, all of which were delicious we finally made it to the pub this evening. As hoped we were not disappointed, the food was even more amazing fresh from the kitchen without the 10 minute car journey. The freshly made food more than made up for the time from ordering to having the food, we all enjoyed our meals, 4 empty plates 😃, the same for dessert, amazingly delicious.

Lovely pub, friendly staff. Amazing Sunday Roasts. Food was lovely the roast beef melted in your mouth. Definitely would recommend the roast dinners. Very reasonable too with choices of paying for 1,2 or 3 courses (only went on Sunday so can’t say about other menu) 3 courses was £20 very good value for money.

It is amazing in this very rural part of Wales, the dearth of pubs that welcome dogs - not this one. Huw, the landlord loves them, and even has a canine menu comprising a range of chews at no charge. We went - my wife and I our mut, and our daughter with her two spaniel pups - for Sunday lunch and were immediately welcomed. Good range of starters, fantastic roasts (beef, lamb or turkey) with generous portions of vegetables, and a great selection of puds (I had the crumble). Add to that the first class Gower Gold bitter and jazz playing in the background, and I think I've found my favourite pub. Just sorry we're away for their Christmas Doggy Day.

Stopped here for lunch on a whim, as another place we'd planned to visit was closed. Glad it was now, as we'd have missed a treat. Well worth a visit and we will definitely be going again soon. The hosts are very friendly and certainly look like they enjoy what they do, which is always a plus. The pub is a lovely old building with a nice clean airy interior, having a dining area separate from the bar if you want it. Both are spacious, comfortable and very clean. The pub is dog friendly and the owners love the four legged visitors, so again a plus for lots of potential customers limited for dog friendly options locally. The menu was comprehensive, without being overwhelming and well priced. There is a little bit of everything to suit most tastes including vegetarian and vegan options. The beer was good, with a nice selection of draft and bottled. We had the 12oz gammon and beer battered fish and chips and both were absolutely lovely. Good sized portions of proper home cooked fresh food. Some places get described as "good pub grub", I think this is much better than that, so yes it's in a pub, but it is proper food. Really it's a restaurant with a bar attached. Plenty of parking at the rear with easy access to the main Ammanford/Llandeilo road. There is small seating area outside, which would be lovely in better weather. Embarassed to say we didn't leave a tip, as we had no change, paid by card and only realised after paying. Will make sure they get one plus next time. Sorry, but Cheers.
