We had an absolutely lovely stay here - a halfway stop on the way further north and we couldn’t have picked better. The pub and restaurant were friendly, warm and welcoming. Excellent selection of win and a delicious dinner. The Camembert bites in particular were...amazing. Our room was everything and more with a super comfy bed. We left refreshed - would definitely stay again! The staff were super helpful and friendly as were the locals!More

Poor pub food in a nice setting. Friends booked to meet up and were embarrassed by the food. The lamb shank was inedible, meagre, and undercooked. Game pie was tasteless. When asked, "Was everything OK?" by service staff (can't really call him a waiter!). We...explained the poor quality of the food, to be met with a banal comment, "Oh, I will tell the chef!" That was the last we saw of him or anyone else. We just paid and left. Wont go back!More

We were greeted warmly when we arrived for Sunday lunch at The Cheney Arms and were shown straight away to our table. The menu offered a good selection of dishes, not just traditional roasts, and the service was really efficient and absolutely seamless despite at...least 3 different waiting staff attending to us. They were all very friendly yet professional. The food was tasty and we were clearly surrounded by other happy diners! We recommend you book in advance and we’ll definitely be back!More

What a great pub/hotel! We booked in for the Friday and Saturday nights as we were visiting the area. From the very start the staff were welcoming and couldn't do enough to help. Once settled in to the room (Very clean, very comfortable and great...view over the fields) we adjourned to the bar. There was a lovely atmosphere with a group of locals settled in (always a good indication!), who also made us feel welcome. The hand pulls bears are kept very well all complemented by a good selection of spirits. The food from the restaurant was to class. Well prepared, presented and obviously from quality producers. I really would recommend trying a pie is you have the opportunity - truly excellent :-) The wine selection is very good at reasonable prices. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our Stay. We will definitely keep The Cheney Arms on our list of places to stay!More

My friend and I were long overdue a catch up and decided to meet here for the Wednesday night pie night. We had to advise our orders ahead of our booking which isn’t ideal but understandable for something popular. We arrived 10mins earlier than our...table time and was unable to park in the car park so had to park on the road. The service when we arrived was good as we were immediately seated and our drinks order taken and arrived swiftly. As did our food no more than 10 mins after arriving through the door! We were asked if we’d like any additional sauces etc and should have been left in peace to eat however we were constantly hovered over by the wait staff. Considering the compact and cosy nature of the seating area it felt very intrusive whilst you’re trying to eat a meal with a friend after work, having a member of the wait staff constantly brushing past your table not necessarily taking food etc but waiting and hovering on your shoulder to ask if everything is ok or waiting for you to finish. The pie was absolutely delicious but went down in lumps - it was not a nice relaxing meal and catch up as planned. No sooner had my cutlery hit the plate it was immediately whipped away and a dessert menu provided. Whilst still trying to have a conversation and catch up with my friend we were barely given a couple of minutes to look over before we were asked numerous times whether we were ready to order, talk about feeling rushed! Dessert came and at no point were we asked if we wanted a refill on our drinks - until that is it was they were hovering ready to give us our bill ‘would you like a drink….. or are you ready for the bill’ To be honest, by this point my friend and I hadn’t managed a single conversation without interruption and I had indigestion so we were more than ready to leave. Lovely food which we definitely recommend but really need to work on the balance between good customer service and overstepping/ rushing your customers.More
