Get the 1500 yen pot in which the noodles are cooked. It has egg, beef, chicken, shrimp, and lots of full perfectly cooked soba. Also order a beer to go with it. You will be in noodle heaven! The husband will bring you some dried fish snacks that he caught himself.

This was an accidental find, so I really enjoyed it. The place serves soba, and fresh farm vegetables. It is located uphill from the entrance to the Monkey park. The farm is across the street. It is a natural and beautiful place. The man and woman owners are super nice and friendly. I was able to practice my Japanese with... More

Spotted the signs advertising the restaurant on the hike towards the snow monkey park and also had a friend who had recommended it so after visiting the snow monkeys, I headed straight for Rausuan. It is located right next to the petrol station a little way up from the main road bus stop to yudanaka/shiga kogen - so keep an... More

You know those annoying ads that you see plastered everywhere you go? This was almost one of them. We got annoyed and tempted by it and decided to bypass the cafe at the bottom of the park and find our way there. The place is nice and homely, with great wooden furniture and pictures of some catches from the sea,... More

This was the best meal we have had in Japan so far. The tempura items were fresh mushrooms & apples (what the area is known for), the apple tempura was absolutely amazing (and a first!) + eggplant, broccoli and squash. The rice noodles were thick and tasty (the noodles had taken on some great flavour from the broth). The soup... More

As you walk along the trail to and from Jigokudani Monkey Park, you see this sign for soba noodles at Rausuan. Seems pretty normal right? Nah. This place rocked my socks. It was super cold outside and like an idiot, I went in a t-shirt. So by the time I got down to Rausuan, I was pretty much numb. Not... More

We passed up a fancy restaurant on the way back from the monkey park due to the crowd, and looking around the bus stop we found this wonderful sobaya-san! Out of a blizzard and into the warm. Perhaps that is what made this experience so memorable - the discovery of place seemingly hidden and off the beaten track , yet... More

We were FREEZING after walking back from the snow monkeys in the middle of a minor snow storm and found this place. Delicious soba noodles, dipping sauce and oh man what an egg. You have to order it seperately from the noodles but it is worth it.

We had lunch here both days we stayed in the area: fantastic soba noodles and tempura in an unassuming roadside diner but delicious and friendly service, including complimentary sweet apples on departure. An authentic delicious experience, free wifi and outrageously cheap.

You can enjoy the great light taste of Kansai-style warm buckwheat. Combination of 10 percent cold buckwheat and buckwheat soup Koikuchi distilled in kelp Rausu is excellent .Rausu-an is a soba restaurant with a taste of the best class in Japan. It is a great place to warm the cold body after you have visited the Monkey Park.It is very... More
