Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Friday 17th November 2023. Last night at home we opted for takeaway for dinner so we chose Saffron Indian restaurant in Innerleithen…. It took 20 minutes from phone call order to us collecting our meal … the staff at Saffron are helpful, pleasant and friendly...and checked the contents of our order to make sure it was all present and correct. The meal was piping hot and absolutely the best Indian take away meal I have had … 👏👌 thoroughly recommended. We will be back SOON.More

Excellent food and plenty of it. Glad we didn't have a starter! We couldn't finish all our meal, so were offered a takeaway box. It is a very small restaurant (seats 14 ), so best to book. Friendly staff.

Have eaten here many times and never disappointed. It's so good we are booked in again with mountain biking friends in October whilst on our annual trip. We don't bother going anywhere else.... says it all!!

I did not expect a small Indian restaurant tucked away in a little Scottish village to be this good. It was amazing - quite literally one of the best curries I’ve ever had.

We were staying at the hotel up the road and really fancied a curry. We had read that this restaurant is very small, so I'd emailed to reserve a table. The food itself was fine, we had poppadoms and chutneys which was lovely and the...curry (chicken dhansak and butter chicken) was tasty and there was ample of it, so much that we struggled to finish it. So glad that we didn't have starters! It was nice enough, not the best I've had but certainly not the worst either. The pilau rice was particularly nice and fluffy. It is indeed a teeny restaurant and unfortunately due to this, the tables are very close together. This isn't a great problem, apart from the 4 people on the table next to us. The one woman was loud, dominating the conversation with her husband(?) and friends, with a good sprinkling of F-words thrown in. Now I swear, but this was a little inappropriate and you should learn to 'read the room' and perhaps tone down the swearing and the volume! Myself and hubby struggled to talk to each other as we would have had to have raised our voices above the woman on the next table. There were another older couple on another table and I noticed they kept looking at the woman too and didn't look particularly happy and they left soon after. It was a shame really as it did spoil the evening a little. The woman then went out for a cigarette with one of the others and came back reeking of it, which was really off-putting (again being so close there was no avoiding it). We were hoping they would leave as they were finishing their main courses when we arrived, but they were still there when we left. Not the fault of the restaurant I know, but it did spoil it.More

Luckily, we were staying in a holiday cottage just over the road from Saffron so we had booked a table for the Saturday evening. It is a very small restaurant and our table wasn’t ready when we arrived but this gave us chance to look...at the menu in the small reception area. We shared the fantastic selection of vegetarian bahjis and pakoras and poppodoms and loved the mains of chicken Bhuna and chicken with mushrooms and potatoes. The portions are generous so we’re able to take some away to enjoy the next day and the staff were excellent.More

The food was brilliant! I had lamb madras, keema rice and cheese and chilli naan. It was very fresh and full of flavour. I tried a number of my friends dishes too and they were all great. Really impressed with the food. The staff were...great. The young man and woman who were serving up were very polite. A friend asked for no onions, she checked if it was an allergy or just a preference (just a preference), when the orders came out she asked who ordered the bhuna with extra onions... she was pulling his leg! Lovely to have a bit of back an forth with the staff. Very small place, so a bit cramped. We turned up for our table and had to go to the pub for half an hour before it was ready. This wasn't really a bother. The menu seemed quite expensive at first, but it came to £38.50/head. For most, this included a couple of beers, poppadum, curry, a naan and half a portion of rice. The food was great and everyone was stuffed afterwards. I'd happily go back next time we are down. Great work!More

Tiny restaurant, immaculately presented, serving excellent curries. Facinating menu with interesting options, and lots of vegetarian choices. Friendly and helpful staff led by the owner Muhammad. A bit pricey but worth every penny.

What a real jewel in the Crown this is! Been saying for a long time that we need to go for a visit and last night we actually made it at long last. Absolutely not disappointed. A fantastic welcome from a happy smiley face and...shown directly to our seats. The menu must be the most comprehensive menu I've ever seen with all the dishes explained so you can make the best choice. Drinks order taken quickly and served swiftly. Food oder was taken with much hilarity and passed to the kitchen. Food let me tell you was absolutely out of this world. From the very first mouthful of the starter to the last forkful on the main course, this is probably the very best Indian food I think I have ever eaten. Staff were outstanding, Rachel was absolutely fantastic as was the young man who's name I didn't catch (very best of luck in the Para's young man) but it certainly added to the whole experience. I would not hesitate to recommend this Restaurant for the magnificent food and outstanding service. Will not be long before we're back again.More

We were told our takeaway would be ready at 7:30 but it was half an hour late. That’s not too bad but the total bill came to £52 for two! We questioned it and we’re told they’ve increased their prices on line. I looked at...the old menu and my usual dish had increased from £9.95 to £19.95!!!!! Plus rice, that’s roughly £25 for a curry! Surely this must now make saffron the most expensive takeaway in Scotland, probably England. Possibly the world….. And for the record….. it’s not that good, the prawns were over cooked and there were hardly any. I’m sticking to Prince of India or Shukria from now on. So long saffron, and good luck, you’re gonna need it at those prices!More
