Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely spot but very limited parking - if disabled or of limited mobility be advised that the village car park is about 5 minutes walk away. We ate here twice on a recent holiday and, on both times, had difficulty getting a table - we...tried to book on the second occasion but the telephone wasn't answered! It does get very busy so be warned. The food, however, was amazing and we were blown away by the imaginative use of local ingredients. Would definately vist again.More

What’s eating the staff? Gorgeous location, fab food, beautiful ambience but wow unhappy staff. The first staff male member was borderline rude and made me feel uncomfortable on arrival. Totally ignored with deliberate no eye contact. Waited for ages until I said something polite and...got a hostile response. Place half empty so not like staff were stressed. Waitress was miserable, refused to accommodate a change of seating without any logic. A smile would have broken her face. I get that the staff might be unhappy but don’t make your customers feel bad or uncomfortable if you’re having a bad day. This was a real expensive treat for us but it was spoilt by staff attitude.More

Heard good things about the famous crab sandwich, coming from whitby thought would give it ago, what a disappointment, 80% brown cart meat just like a paste on very thick bread left half, not a patch on whitby crab sandwiches where it is mostly tasty white meat, over priced...and over rated, will not be rushing back, your better getting a fresh hot kipper sandwich in the car parkMore

Had heard lots of great things about this place so i was excited. We arrived and were shown to our table. We had prawn and crayfish ( 9.95) and they were really nice. Then we shared the fishboard.the liquor for the mussels was very salty...and there was too much pate.it wasnt great value.for dessert i had cheescake and at 9.95 a bit of a rip off. They also add a service charge.More

Called in mid-afternoon on spec to see if we could eat. They were busy but we managed to find a small table in the corner. I am celiac and they said they were happy to accomodate. We each had a sandwich with a shared portion...of their chips. Hubby opted for their infamous crab sandwich and I went for the salmon with dill mayo. Both were delicious. The staff were friendly even though they were very busy. We would certainly go again. I saw on another table one of their fish platters and it looked amazing and it will certainly be on my radar next time we call.More

We came on spec as we couldn't book as tables had been reserved. We sat with 2 small tables pushed together by the fire. The friendly barman didn't get his name but had glasses and long hair was an asset to the pub. We ordered...the salmon, a Roast, fish ginger cob and the salmon sandwich with the obligatory beef dripping chips! The local Jolly pale ale was very good. The table by the fireplace and window was reserved and nobody sat there for the 75 minutes we were there, if it was needed then at least say you have the table for 1 hour so you have a buffer to clear away, poor management as it could have been used several times but patrons walked out when they couldn't be seated. Our bill was just under £85 which for 2 alcoholic pints, and the above food, which for me is excessive especially for the portions that were given. It is a lovely place, the location is the best in the area bar none, the staff are great but prices need to come down as due to no other venue in the village they are taking advantage of the captive audience.More

Terrific place with food to match & the perfect pit stop after a walk on the beach - torrential rain optional. You'll need to book - even out of season it's rammed - but with food this good & a doggy welcome in the bar...area it's understandable. Nice service, delicious lunch (moules frites for me - tasty & plenty of it). We'll be back.More

We had booked in advance but arrived half an hour early, we went to the bar but were told our table was ready so we were seated in the bar. The staff were all lovely and friendly. I was recommended the house white wine which...was delicious. The food was lovely, I recommend the smoked haddock chowder. Everything was cooked well. The atmosphere was great, it was busy but not overcrowded. We will be returning. Thank you.More

Amazing place for food and drink. The food here is top tier. Yes it may be more than your average place but it is so worth it. I had the burger which came with beef dripped fries - 10/10. my partner had a meat pie...and I can honestly say it was the best pie we have ever tasted. They have a lovely cider on tap which I would highly recommend. The desserts are also extremely tasty. I had the sticky toffee pudding and my partner had the cheesecake. The staff are extremely attentive and quick to serve your table. I think we also had the best table in the place simply for the views. Stunning view of Dustanburgh Castle. Would highly recommended a visit, would love to come back!More

Fish finger sandwich the brioche bun was dry and the fish finger batter was...claggy. Husband had not to appetising chicken ceaser salad and cold side of chips. Spoilt our visit. Would return to Craster but go to either A l wick or Morpeth to eat next time.More

My family and I had cause to visit The Jolly Fisherman on Saturday October 21st. We were booked in for dinner on the Saturday early evening Service at the bar was, as ever, friendly. Typical of the Northumbrian sense of hospitality that pervades I speak...personally of the service here, but I don't think I'm alone in how I felt! I started with the kipper Scotch egg. A novel combination, given Craster is, to me, the home of the kipper. Very delicious 😋 For main course, I went for the seafood platter. A veritable combination of tastes there, and it went down a treat. Plumped for the ice cream for dessert (or "pudd'n, as we Morpethians call it!) All in all, I personally enjoyed everything about the food, drink, service, and sense of hospitality that was shown to me, and my family, and come my next visit back to God's own Country, I will have no hesitation in booking a table again Well done to you all. 😃👍More
