Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Went to the Castle Inn for a Friday night meal out with my partner. The food was delicious (especially the Thai fishcake starter and the mussels which were both incredible!) and beautifully presented. Varied menu which features lots of local produce. Great bottle of wine which was really reasonably priced (the Rioja I think). The serving staff were absolutely lovely; smiley and attentive without being overbearing at all. I am also a very fussy customer in terms of LIGHTING and I am pleased to say that the Castle Inn have got it down; candles, firelight and just the right volume on the music.... We were the last people in there and we felt really welcome and under no pressure to leave; and were even offered a sloe gin on the house to finish our meal. Thank you Castle Inn for a lovely night out, we will be back :)

Myself and my partner booked for 2 nights room only at the Castle Inn. We knew the pub and restaurant were closed at the present time. The room was large, well appointed and spotlessly clean. I loved the original features such as a fireplace and beams in our room. The tea tray was generous and plenty of bottled water. We did meet the managers and they were very friendly and made recommendations for places to eat and drink locally. We had a lovely relaxing break away, thank you!

We visited as we had some credit left on a gourmet voucher and we were celebrating my my wife’s birthday. We discovered this place by accident but will certainly be back. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The menu was interesting and varied, and used locally sourced foods. It was hard to decide what to have as we really were spoiled for choice. The food itself...wow. Absolutely delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and can’t fault it in any way at all. Thanks to everyone involved in making this a really enjoyable meal for both of us. Only two small criticisms - the gents loo is not very disabled friendly (I understand in an old building it is not always possible) and can you take Cliff Richard off of your background music :-)

On arrival were greeted by the brand new owner who couldn't be helpful enough. Our rooms were beautiful and spotlessly clean and we enjoyed a very peaceful night's stay. Breakfast was a joint effort with the Three Cooks and ended with lovely fresh fruit and yogurt. Our packed lunches included gourmet sandwiches, made with care (you could taste it). Considering the owners had only taken over a couple of days before we arrived, we were very impressed. Thank you for taking care of us before our walk to Harleston.

Easy to find 5 mins walk from any car park A good garden outside but beware of steps when entering the pub The dog was welcomed too Waitress was very friendly and efficient . Huge choice of 3 menus by 3 chefs. We ordered food for 7…so took a while but when arrived was delicious. The roast could do with more gravy. We did ask but never arrived! Plates were hot. Roasts were £16.95 Korean Chicken £18.90 Stir fried noodles £14.90 Tables slow to be cleared. Sunday afternoon live music in garden Would go back

Not a good atmosphere or experience. Table booked for 7.15pm, food arrived around 8.30pm. No warning that it would take over an hour. Customers should really be given the option of whether they want to wait that long. Tom Yum soup was bland without seasoning. The piece of fish was tough and appeared over-cooked and microwaved. Same with the mussel. It would not detach from the shell. The tofu stsrter was OK, satay sauce OK. The table next door sent their pork back as the lady said it was so tough she couldn't chew it At the end of the meal we couldn't wait to leave...but were held up because of a problem with the til. A bit of a disaster all round really. I felt for the two waitresses who did their best. It was one of those meals where we were with family we are visiting and we didn't want to spoil the evening by complaining. A vast improvement is needed unfortunately.

Thoroughly enjoyed another fantastic meal at The Castle Inn. A very warm Welcome from all the bar and waiting staff. A couple of pre dinner drinks before ordering. I chose the Sirloin steak with seasonal vegetables and Dauphinoise potatoes and I thoroughly enjoyed every forkfull. My wife chose the Haddock with mashed potatoes with cheese and chives sauce. Again she thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. Onto desert.....we both chose the Sticky Toffee Pudding. One with ice cream and one with custard. Fantastic choice to round off our meal. A couple more drinks to round off a lovely evening. Huge thanks to Mark and his team for another really enjoyable visit to The Castle.

Just spent a long weekend at this little Gem. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was lovely. The bedroom was just what was required after a long day with a quiet room and comfortable bed. They have a strange but wonderful approach to the fruit basket in the room, being filled with various styles of chocolate, allowing a luxurious end to the day. Will be back in the autumn for round two.

We visited Bungay and stumbled on a treasure in the Castle Inn ...really good food well presnted and such a natural welcome by staff who were genuinely kind and thoughtful. Our overnight stay stands out as exceptional and a crdit to the owners whose eye for making good appointments of staff was evident in evrything we experienced.

The staff member (I did not catch his name) was welcoming and friendly - but in a sincere way, it was not intense and trying too hard! FWe went for lunch and had a starter and main for £19 from the set menu - this was good value and tasted delicious. The spring rolls and cod goujons to start were excellent, as were the sausages and ribs for the main. The member of staff was busy, but still able to deliver a very good service. Often conversing with other customers as well. I would have left a tip, but we were in a rush the card machine did not prompt us to do so and we had no cash! I'm sorry about that, but we will definitely return and recommend you.

I stayed over the Christmas period and had the most pleasant time! The room I stayed in (Mettingham) was spacious, comfortable and clean and I could not fault it in any way. Also worth noting the very comfortable bed that I was informed was a recent purchase, lush! The restaurant/bar downstairs is also great for socialising with the lovely staff and owners, I will definitely miss Chan, Stuart, Lindsay and Olivia and will make the greatest effort to pop in and say hello when I’m next in Bungay. The food is also delicious, especially the complimentary breakfast! However, the evening menu is also tasty and includes a wide variety of dishes, but I highly advise anybody to try the pork belly noodles. Overall 5 stars, would give it 6 if I could. Hope to see you again soon!

Booked to stay for 3 nights ; bar and restaurant closed for 2 days and we were not informed prior to stay so the only facility actually available was the bedroom. The bedroom was over the kitchen and was unbearably hot ; we had to shorten our stay because of this. However , the staff were lovely and the one meal we did have was excellent.

My husband to be and I stayed at this lovely hotel for 2 nights. The rooms were very spacious and clean & the food was gorgeous. We had an evening meal the night before our wedding at St Peter's Hall which was lovely and the waitress service was very good even though the restaurant was very busy.. We also had a brilliant breakfast both mornings of our stay, the second morning there was eight of us and we wanted breakfast outside in the pretty garden as the weather was so nice . Nothing was too much for the two lovely ladies that cooked and served our breakfast which made our stay there perfect. We definitely recommend this hotel and will come back when we can.

Visited The Castle Inn for lunch. Asked if we could come in with our small dog and received a very warm welcome and was allowed to sit in the bar area. Was surprised to see several Thai and Cambodian dishes on the menu. We ordered Som Thai with chicken wings and a Cambodian breakfast. Both dishes were delicious with an authentic amount of spice. We also noticed the toilets and the premises were spotlessly clean. We are looking forward to returning and enjoying some more delicious dishes.

Stayed one night to attend a show at the local theatre (also amazing) The staff are lovely, the food was lovely, the locals we met post show were lovely and the shops in Bungay sell fantastic local produce. We had a lovely room which was spotless and very comfy, some very nice biscuits too. Thank you. We will be back
