Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Complete piece of luck - staying in the nearby Premier Inn and found this place on Google Maps - about 10 - 15 walk but really worth it! What a gem of a place! Warm welcome from the staff and great food. Have to recommend...the very reasonably priced Primitivo wine too. Throughly enjoyed it and would definitely returnMore

Called in for dinner. Service was very rushed. Got seated, ate 3 courses and paid bill all within 55 minutes. Food wasn’t great. Pizza swimming in grease. Wouldn’t return!

Came here by chance as we were searching for places to eat close to Chester-Le-Street and Low Fell. Lovely restaurant with comfortable seating, pleasant atmosphere and chilled music in the background. Liked the fact that the menu wasn’t pages long , so they’ve kept it...simple. Not sure if this menu is the same during the week, but on the Sunday you had the choice of a roast (chicken or beef) or pasta/pizza. As it was a Sunday we all opted for the roast. Huge portions. They didn’t have any cranberry sauce (only mint or horseradish), so if I knew ahead of time, I wouldn’t have ordered the chicken. Will definitely return and sample the pasta. My son had the bruschetta to start which was delicious. Portions are massive so make sure you go hungry. Prices are reasonable and service is excellent.More

We had a smashing Sunday lunch. Best beef dinner I’ve had in ages and the staff were really friendly and jokey with my autistic neice. Highly recommended.

The Antico Birtley is a wonderful restaurant , the quality of food is Top Drawer, the atmosphere is warm, friendly and inviting, Domanico heads the team with decades and decades of experience in this industry, his front of house skills are second to none, as...is his banter and sincerity.... the whole team makes your visit so memorable.... but the Chefs can perform magic..... with food , then I make it dissappear... The booking is so easy, put Antico Birtley in Google, then on site, reserve a table, loads of time options... simple as... You's will enjoy the Experience Steve....More

Found this place while stopping in the Travelodge Northbound services, after finding it on Google the hotel receptionist also reccomend it (which is always a good sign) we were about to drive the 10 minutes it said on Google maps but there are gaps in...the services fence meaning it's a 2 to 3 minute walk tops (we were also informed this by the receptionist) absolutely stunning food and plenty of it, the staff who are a family run restaurant were first class, without doubt you should give it a try if you're in the area, we certainly will be back when visiting the North East. Thanks for a great eveningMore

As always, a fabulous meal at Antico! With excellent service, in a lovely ambience, and delicious authentic Italian food. What is there to complain about? Well… The price! We understand that prices have risen dramatically everywhere, but the ‘happy hour’ just ain’t so happy! Not...only is the food expensive, but the drink prices are ridiculous. We shouldn’t be paying £7.50 for a glass of house wine! Lower the prices - or have some special offers - and we will return.More

Food is always good with healthy portions. Staff are brilliant, always a smile and great service. Early bird menu is as cheap as a takeaway, you can't go wrong.

Spent 3 days in Washington. Always like to try new places, (and had lunch in the Michelin—rated Coarse in Durham). Went back here three night running for evening meal. Great food, service, value, and atmosphere.
