Fabulous. Personal. You're not just a number on a balance sheet. This place may not suit everyone, but it's definitely quirky, charming, different, and wonderful. The food was excellent, the beer was superb, and the welcome was sincere. If you're looking for slick, Wetherspoons service,...in an environment that's like every other one you've ever been in, with all the same things on offer, avoid it like the plague. If you want food and beer that's not the norm, served by human beings with warmth and feelings, this is for you. Put this place on your bucket list, it's worth it.More

Enjoyed a very pleasant Saturday night at the pub which was recommended to us by friends. The staff were very friendly and made your very welcome. There was a good atmosphere in a cosy pub with quirky decor. Menu was limited but food can be...described as very good pub grub. Beers were good and luckily there was live music in the marquee over the road which was an added bonusMore

We couldn’t be bothered for the cooking, cleaning and washing up of a Sunday roast. So my family headed to the Barley Mow - which was an excellent choice. I had the juiciest turkey I’ve ever eaten (sorry mum). If you find yourself looking for...countryside, comfort and a flavour of local food - this is the place for you. I’d also like to recommended a pint of amber otter (or three)!More

One thing struck me was just how much the owners care that you really enjoy your visit. You feel not like customers but their personal guests. The decor is quirky (in a good way), the atmosphere very relaxed and whilst the menu may not be...the most extensive the quality is very good indeed. Sharing platter (sticky chicken wings, chilli nachos, cheesy fries, falafel, halloumi fries) was a real hit as was the chicken burger. Pudsey wise the sticky toffee pudding hit the spot. I wish this was my local and not a holiday pub!More

We called in here on a Sunday evening and rang beforehand to see if they could fit the three of us in, so glad we did as the pub was packed. We were warmly greeted and made to feel very welcome. Two of us had...a Beef roast dinner and my husband had the Beef Chill and everything was very tasty. The food was equal to what we could produce at home which was fantastic. Sometimes when we go out to eat we think we could produce better at home which is disappointing as we love cooking, experimenting and trying new foods. So we were delighted with the quality, cooking the food well and piping hot here at The Barley Mow. My daughter & myself shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding between us which was gorgeous. The bill was very reasonable and reflected value for money for home cooked food. Both the landlady & landlord were very chatty and the pub had a buzzing atmosphere. We will definitely return to this fantastic pub. Thanks for looking after us.More

What a wonderful pub! Collette was friendly and chatty and the kids were big fans especially when they were given a box of plastic animals to entertain them. The food was another level and it may have been the best chicken burger I've ever had....We are into cooking and eating and will definitely be back. We are hoping for the chilli recipe to keep us going in the meantime. Thank you Barley Mow!More

Great range of locally brewed beers, warm welcome, the best Chilli I've ever eaten and the bangers and mash was served with the most delicious gravy my wife has ever eaten (her exact words!). Fun and funky decor, there's a marquee across the road for...live music, great place to hang out. Great work guys, we loved it!More

We went to the Barley Mow - deep in the Derbyshire countryside, it's a great drive through increasingly narrow lanes, and just out the other 'end' (the end is pretty close to the start!!) of Bonsall. When you get there, the silence is gorgeous and...the setting perfect. Food, excellent and some good craic with Mick the landlord and former village plumber. He says has no time for vegetarians but he was just joking and served a fantastic vegan roast with veg - happily adding extra gravy. He was earthy and fun to meet - a highlight of our whole trip, thanks Mick :-). Kitchen had closed when I wanted pud, but Mick pulled some strings and got me a high-class brownie and ice cream... and they even brew their own beer.More

When we visited we had to wait until18:00 before we could order food. That was the time the kitchen opened. This was no problem. Not with the great selection of beers and ciders which we had to choose from 😀🍺
