Description
This is one of the newest bars in Brufut. It is, as its name suggests, set in a courtyard, with a covered dining area, a bantaba with very comfortable seats, and also seats in a the courtyard itself. genuine Gambian setting.. Although European in character, it is situated in a genuine Gambian setting. It is becoming very popular with ex pats, holiday makers, and especially guests at the nearby Sheraton Hotel. The owners, Colin and Maureen have lived in Gambia for many years, and give the place a very cheerful and welcoming ambience. Meals are all freshly cooked, and start at about 100 dalasis, served with a choice of chips or rice. The menu changes according to what is locally available, and Gambian and European dishes are freshly cooked. The chocolate and coffee cakes are also baked locally. Take away meals and sandwiches for the beach or airport are happily prepared, and the service is excellent. Drinks, too, are very reasonable. Local shorts and softs are 25 dalasis a shot, Julbrew beer is 30 dalasis, Where it really comes into its own is in the very popular Sunday lunches. Very tender beef, pork or chicken , served with fresh local veg, roast and boiled potatos, Yorkshire pudding, delicious gravy, for 195 dalasis. Tender lamb chops ( too many for me to manage were 225 dalasis). Starters and desserts are 50 dalasis. It is recommended you book in advance for these Sunday lunches. The Courtyard is well sign posted, and situated on a sandy road , just off the main road as you go towards the Sheraton from Brusubi. Access for the disabled, wheel chair users, etc., is very easy (I was still on crutches for many visits, due to my broken leg). The toilets are spotless, and European style as can be expected. Telephone number is 70914. The Courtyard is closed on Mondays, but open all day for the rest of the week.
