Food was lovely, staff were lovely, room was fine, bathroom a bit old but still a nice room. My only criticism would be the £25 charge for my dog. I'd already said to my partner we would go as it was the first restaurant we...dined in together when she came to Kent I also said we'd stay for the night so I excepted the charge. However I'd never stay at the Dog again as I think the charge for our dog was excessive. Nevertheless the food is really good, the staff are very welcoming and the owner was very pleasant the evening we dined there.More

Our first time at The Dog in Wingham. It was a Christmas gift so we thought we'd try the Sunday lunch. It's a fabulous pub and a warm welcome on arrival. Ordered drinks and were shown to our table. Both had the sirloin of beef...and it was delicious. Beautifully cooked beef and a good portion of vegetables, and no skimping on the gravy as with many Sunday lunches we've had elsewhere. We also had a dessert, blood orange cheese cake and the sticky ginger pud. Again they were an absolute treat. It's not cheap but you certainly don't feel short changed in portion size and quality and we will visit again in the near future. It certainly lives up to its reputation. Thank you all at The Dog.More

Excellent in every respect. Good food, friendly and efficient service - superb. Personally, I would have liked to see chicken on the menu - but that's just my personal preference and not in any way a complaint.

My husband and I have been to many Gastropubs across the country and I must say, this is up there with some of the best. We made our way down for Valentine's day, walked into a very welcoming atmosphere and knew right away we'd be...well looked after. The chicken croquette was so flavoursome and beautifully presented, I could've just eating more of them all night! For main, I had the duck breast which was cooked to perfection; beautifully pink and a really rich sauce. Desserts were amazing also. I couldn't finish off my chocolate fondant but my husband did and we both found it to so rich and decadent. Service was wonderful. Our coats were taken for us before we were seated and our server Luke was brilliant. Really friendly and charming, looked after us the whole time without being overbearing. Nothing seemed to be too much of a bother, even when it got busy. Made an already great night a fantastic one. One hundred percent, we will be returning soon so I am hoping The Dog can maintain the same level of excellence that we experience last Wednesday. Well done!!More

We had a Valentine’s Day meal at The Dog. The staff were fantastic and very welcoming, they were attentive without being intrusive. The environment of this gorgeous ancient building added to the experience. The food was fantastic every course was perfect, the chowder, the duck...was so tasty and the rhubarb cheesecake was a delight. Thanks for everything!More

My boyfriend and I won a night away and breakfast at the Dog at Wingham, we both agree it was one of the nicest places we have stayed away! The team did everything they could to make it a lovely experience. The dinner was the...most incredible food I have ever had. My boyfriend and I both did 3 courses and all of them were exceptional. Breakfast the next morning was equally as good! The room was cozy, comfy and extremely clean, we would 100% come here again! We would like to thank Luke, George and Alex for their incredible service!More

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was nothing short of perfect! Two nights in a large room with a four poster bed, a three course meal both nights, and two breakfasts, all for £450! An absolute bargain for the quality of food, accommodation...and service. Highly recommend for a couples getaway, with the breathtaking Canterbury Cathedral and historic Dover Castle both on the doorstep!More

Having eaten in a couple of ‘high profile’ restaurants recently and been less than impressed … isn’t it reinvigorating to turn up at a gastro pub in Kent and be treated to outstanding food and lovely, engaging and attentive service at half the price. Now...why is that??? Fantastic. Totally recommend The Dog xMore

Lovely food on the a la carte menu, outstanding staff and service in a lovely old historic pub/restaurant. An open fore would have made this experience complete.

Had to wait over half an hour for our table, didn’t seem concerned about us waiting. Did apologise but said it would be soon. It was about 35 minutes. The people before were half an hour late we were told as we started to sit...down to the table, so we had to wait for them to leave. When I mentioned that we had to wait I was told well you’re here now aren’t you!! By the time we sat down it was just after half past eight. Took another 15 minutes before any one came to order our food. A lot of faffing about and more interested that we ordered more drinks. We arrived early and in plenty of time. It had taken us about 50 minutes to get there so to have to wait 35 minutes was annoying. We were encouraged to have more drinks while we were waiting for our table in the bar. The price of the drinks is over the top we felt. £9 for a small glass of house red wine, £9 a pint and £9.50 for a gin & tonic. The food was very good. The funny crispy puff ball with the pork chop was irrelevant and no one ate it. Couldn’t see the point of it. The whisky caramel tart was caramely but couldn’t taste any sign of whisky. The people who had the panna cotta loved it said it was the best they had eaten. It was good food and we enjoyed what we had our company were great and that made the evening for us but very over priced drinks.More

Sunday lunch is excellent at The Dog. It is our second visit there within a few weeks. Staff are superb and the roast dinners are great. The only downside is that the pork belly is not always on the menu, as this is the best...of their roasts. Wine list is comprehensive and house wines are good. A special mention of the Bear Island pale ale which is especially good.More

Brilliant food and wonderful service. I must admit I struggled with the food as my appetite is pretty small, but it was all stunning, just too much for me. All of the staff were lovely, friendly without being pushy, helpful and knowledgable. Pity some of...the other guests were loud, drunk and selfish over entitled hooray Henrys (and Henriettas)More

Really excellent meal, very tasty main and just the right size portion. Service was great and the range of menu options was very tempting that were slightly off the beaten track.
