Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This looked like a nice independent cafe. It appeared promising when we went inside. We ordered coffee from a waitress. A couple of other waiting staff also came to our table. The coffee arrived. It was weak and barely drinkable- we all agreed. Surely a...cafe can serve nice coffee?More

My husband and I visited Gossips on Friday 21st July 2023 at around 10am for breakfast. We have visited Gossips for the last 10 years and like to support local businesses. However our experience this time was disappointing. My husband and I found a table...and waited to be served. The lady waitress who was in charge proceeded to clear the tables and did not acknowledge us…she continued to clear and wipe the tables. There were no other customers waiting to be served! Approx 10 mins went by…then a younger girl came to take our order. We had our breakfast then proceeded to the counter to pay. ( we were the only ones at the counter paying). The waitress who ignored us earlier then said ‘was everything ok sorry for the wait’ before taking payment. So my husband and I both came to the conclusion that the waitress knew we were waiting and consciously made a decision to ignore us! We were not impressed at all.More

We should have left when we saw how many people weren’t eating, but waiting. A waitress told us her colleague would take our order - fine. The colleague came over, but we had to ask for a menu, which she took from another table which...had people seated there, eating. We asked her to wipe the table, as it wasn’t clean and had a used sugar sachet on it. She took our order. 10 minutes later she told us that one of the dishes had sold out. We re-ordered one dish. She then said there was a bit of a wait. We ordered originally at 1.38 and the food, after a prompt to another waitress, eventually arrived at 2.15! 40 minutes for 2 jacket potatoes, a bit of garlic bread and 2 coffees! If we had been told, initially, of the long wait, we could have gone elsewhere. We had to ask for a partial refund and were refunded the cost of the bread and one coffee, but it did not make up for two average, over-priced jacket potatoes and a 40 minute wait. People who arrived after us were served, ate and left before we got our food. We had to ask for a menu, for cutlery, for napkins (separate requests) and for the table to be wiped. We had to wait to pay as a waitress shuffled through bits of paper and asked what we’d ordered. We were served by 4 different members of staff, so it wasn’t a staffing-numbers issue. Our first visit and our last. Avoid!More

Nice Atmosphere. Awesome selection of cakes/ scones etc. was a bit disappointed in the all day breakfast. Mushrooms very plentiful but only one rasher of bacon & one sausage (which was very dry). Toast was plentiful & the jam was lush though. Service was good...even though it was quite busy.More

I visited for the first time, and decided to prefer the full breakfast with coffee and orange juice. The waitress was very polite and the service was excellent. The breakfast itself was extremely tasty and you can tell that they use high quality ingredients. I...can see why this business has been in existence for 36 years as they know how to look after customers. Definitely will be making a return visit. Thank you very much for a lovely breakfast and coffee.More

Vey charming and extremely busy local business - its encouraging to enjoy a high quality coffee shop , as opposed to the branded uniformed and uninspiring choices served by uninterested staff. Gossips is nothing like this: the staff were outsanding, helpful and accurately taking our...order. Very good savoury items, and delicious cakes - no factory made and wrapped items here. Gossips is an attractive place to meet, eat and enjoy - for both locals and visitors alike - no wonder it is so popular.More

I have never ever been to a cafe or restaurant ( and let me say that I have visited quite a few) as clean as Gossips. We called in for a late breakfast and found every aspect of our visit to be perfect...service, food and...friendliness of all the staff. It’s a shame for me that I don’t live closer although clearly Gossips is extremely popular with the good people of Southwell.More

Our first visit yesterday to the lovely town of Southwell with it's beautiful Minster. Called into Gossips Coffee House for lunch (chilli for me, all day breakfast for hubby) which was speedily served by very pleasant, efficient staff. Food was delicious and nicely presented in...clean comfortable surroundings. Can highly recommend.More

We often call into Gossips for coffee/lunch/a snack as we live in the county and visit Southwell fairly regularly. We visited on a recent Saturday lunchtime, along with a friend from Gloucestershire. The rainy morning, after weeks of summer weather, had brought people into Southwell...and Gossips was extremely busy. However, we were shown to a table and treated with the same courtesy and smiles by ALL the staff, despite their coping with a very heavy lunchtime service. The Welsh rarebits and filled jacket potatoes, with generous garnish, were excellent. We make excuse to return to Gossips and are never disappointed. One always has the impression that the staff make a real effort.More

Great to sit outside in the tiny courtyard behind the premises. The BLT was a triple decker with a phenomenal amount of bacon. Impossible to eat with dignity and a need for several napkins afterwards, but very tasty! Friendly staff. A very English cafe. Southwell...prices. Two sandwiches and two cordials £20.00More

First visit for a long time. Served a very small bowl of very gritty, partially liquidised soup. Not nice. Should have complained but just won’t visit again

We moved into the North Notts area from Yorkshire in mid-2021, and since then have visited Gossips variously for breakfast, morning coffee and lunch. On every occasion, the food and drinks set before us have been delicious - and clearly "home made". The menu is...imaginative and there is always something that takes one's eye. A mention must also be made of the staff, who, without exception, are friendly and personable, and treat the customers as real people, not as mere additions to the daily sales figures. This restaurant is deservedly popular and the owners are to be commended for maintaining consistently high standards, none of which is automatic and requires sustained effort.More

According to another web site, most coffee houses in Southwell open 09.00 to 21.00, but cannot vouch for Gossips. Sorry. Will have to go back and find out.
