Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A pleasant and characterful place for lunch. Inside the pub seems small but there are tables both out at the front and in the garden at the back. Standard pub food served by attentive staff. Harveys ale on tap.

We had 18 people for mums 80th birthday in the private upstairs dining room. Lee and his staff couldn’t have been more helpful. The food & wine were great and Lee allowed us to decorate it for the occasion. He lit the fire and candles...to create a fabulous ambience. Can’t rate this pub high enough!More

Popped in for a drink initially but couldn’t resist the menu! Had delicious Sea Bass and Crab Linguine. Good service in a traditional pub.

Our 3rd Christmas family meal for 14 in the lovely function room. The food was delicious and the staff attentive. We would not go anywhere else for our big family pre Christmas meal. Thank you to the owners and staff 😀

It's a pretty little old traditional english pub and we had a lovely dinner here last night. The foccacia was delightful and my venison bourgingon was delicious, as was my wife's fish. I greedily chose a fruit crumble which I didn't really need as I...was full already but, again delicious! We thought the prices reasonable for the quality of the food. Staff were lovely too.More

REALLY enjoyed our meals but cannot believe we didn't take pictures of our actual food lol. Honey boy had the pork medallions and I had the fish and chips - as a former chippy owner I must say the batter was on point! Atmosphere is...lovely, staff is lovely. My ONLY criticism would be that there's hand sanitizers in pump bottles on the tables - which look like possibly olive oil or balsamic lol so I wonder how many people have inadvertently pumped hand sanitizer in their food lol lol. But honestly one of the nicest pubs we've been to, the sticky toffee pudding was fantastic and we will definitely go back - highly recommend a visit :)More

Visited the Red Lion on a Friday evening for dinner with a friend and it did not disappoint. There is a great choice of dishes on the menu. We had a main and dessert, both were freshly prepared and tasted amazing. Reasonably priced too. The...staff were super friendly. We will certainly be going back.More

Another great pub in East Sussex, delicious food and very friendly staff. The landlord makes it his business to say hello and is always very friendly. The food is great quality and won't disappoint.

A truly beautiful, absolutely authentic village pub ( with function room facilities ) that oozes historical atmosphere out of every well- preserved nook and cranny . Like going back in time to visit a beloved relative! The landlord went out of his way to accommodate...us and the bar/ waiting staff were friendly and professional. Food was great and served promptly - can't wait for another opportunity to visit. Don't spend your hard - earned money in a bland, corporate chain; just visit The Red Lion, Hooe, it's the real deal. Good old- fashioned nostalgia served up with a smile- Thank you.More

Fantastic, don't miss this one! Wonderful, friendly attentive staff. Great food, loads of atmosphere in an amazing old candlelit smugglers pub. I'd give it 15 out of 10 if I could! Thanks to all, we had a great three evenings with you.
