Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Me and 4 friends had lunch here on the 28th of October. The view is truly amazing but that’s all… We order starters (soup) and the main courses right away (I order pig) We waited 2h for the starters and after 2 and a half...hours when my main course finally came it was RAW. The service was terrible… And they didn’t even apologize at the end…More

Get here early to sit on the terrace and admire the fabulous sea views. Stunning location and coastline. Explore the garden and vineyard to make the most of this idyllic spot. Food was good, local rose wine excellent. Service was variable, somewhat disorganised forgetting parts...of our order twice.More

Our small group tour was taken here for a bread demonstration and tasting and a wine tasting. The bread demonstration was interesting to see how the traditional sweet potato bread is made, and then we got to taste it warm - generous slices with either...plain or garlic butter plus olives. The bread was absolutely delicious and you could neither see nor taste the sweet potato, weird, but the light texture of the bread was superb too. Next came the wine tasting. We were taken down to a different room set up for this, and the lady explained about the different grape varieties grown in Madeira and how they are used as well as how Madeira wine is made, it’s different types and how it came about. We then tried the driest and sweetest varieties, both good but most agreed that the sweetest was the best! No hard sell just thank you for coming made this a very pleasant hour or so!More

Firstly, I confess that I have only ever been to this restaurant at lunch time (twice) because I have always been staying in Funchal (and it is quite a long way away). I am however seriously considering how to organise my next trip so that...I can stay at the hotel for a few nights, and get to explore the island a bit better. The restaurant itself has a great balcony, with a magnificent view (even in the rain!). The freshly made bread is excellent - go down and visit the bakery if you can. It is also possible to buy bread to take away with you, which I would also highly recommend. The food was great, and the staff were really lovely. It is a however a destination for tour groups, most of which do not get out onto the balcony (they are usually seated inside the restaurant), so I would advise that you see whether you can do to go under your own steam or miss out big time. The view is to die for. Would I go again - Yes. Would I like to see what the view is like at dusk - Yes.More

One for the view…. That’s it. Poor service continues sadly. We waited at the entrance to be greeted for 10 minutes, although staff were around we were totally blanked despite having a booking. When shown to the table another long wait (45 mins ) for...service during which time no offer or drinks. Our cocktails eventually arrived and had to be returned as not balanced and undrinkable, although swamped by 3 extra staff to find out our complaint and denied it being wrong which it certainly was as the replacement was mixed differently and very nice. Octopus was dry and accompaniments weak. Other diners meals were fair. All the staff are so sullen, unmanaged and certainly begrudge being in the hospitality industry. They desperately need some customer service training and a greeting smile Implant! No improvement from our last visit which we were hoping for. Only for the view folks.More

We had a great vegan meal at this restaurant which was a complete joy on an island where it is otherwise quite tricky to eat vegan. The food was delicious and there were multiple options (including a burger, risotto) and there was a stunning vegan...chocolate baked dessert which was such a treat! The service was good and the views over the sea were beautiful. Highly recommend!More

Had a good table with view and that was it. Waiter was bit in hurry to take note of our choise. No appeticing suggestions .We ordered 2 fishsoup which was vert average and not nicely presented (bowl like at home ). Main dish ,tenderloin, was...hidden in a to salty crust and accompanied by nearly cold puree. The few vegetables were ok. Presentation below zero. My wife had the scabbard fish and she was also not really happy with her choice. We took neither dessert nor coffee . Quickly asked the bill and went . A no-go in the future. Truely deeply disappointed for more than 70 euro !More

We ate here both evenings of our stay. The first night we waited 45 minutes for our entrees and the second night we waited 35 minutes. It seems the restaurant is overstretched with the number of covers they have. I enjoyed my meal the first...night but the second evening my meal was partly cold. A bit disappointing. If we had been staying longer we would have had bar meals instead.More

This seems a very busy and popular restaurant so I was very disappointed with the experience. We were staying at the hotel so there weren’t many restaurant options. The first night the service was very slow and over 3/4 hour wait for the main course...however the food was quite good. On the second night the service again was very slow and the food arrived lukewarm! ( insult to injury) . The fish also had bones still in it ! Fairly fundamental stuff I’m afraid. Left frustrated and hungry! Not recommend.More

As part of a private day trip our guide brought us to this restaurant assuring us that it is not an expensive place (yes it is) and that the food is excellent (it certainly is) Our guide reserved a table on the terrace so that...we can admire the views while eating, the views are really amazing looking to the north east coast of the island We ordered the mackerels for starter- they were deep fried with some breading which left the sea taste but also gave them a crunch The wheat risotto with mushrooms was fantastic, so was the roasted suckling pig The apple pie which was highly recommended by other travelers wasn’t so good Service was excellentMore
