Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In general Good food quality The bread was chunky, no doubt it was from lunch. We asked about “chimichurri”, and the waiter wasn’t clear in his explanation, because I think also the chef doesn”t know what il is. The chimichurri is a set of mixed...spices with oil and vinagear used as condiment meat jn Argentina…… The celling fans are dirty. Unacceptable in a 100 euro per person average restaurantMore

We go to Meran quite frequently, and always choose different restaurants to eat at. As we flew this time instead of driving, Hidalgo appealed because there are bus stops right outside, and for just 1.50 Euro per journey, was probably quicker, easier and cheaper than...driving. I had already looked at the menu on line, and had decided that the "meat" tasting menu was the one for me. A six course tasting menu for just 53 Euro is exceptional value, and when you couple that with the high quality of food, makes for a very budget friendly meal. Firstly came the "salute from the kitchen". A really flavourful salad, firm, crisp vegetables, a good way to start. Then came the carpaccio, melt in the mouth meat, nothing else needs to be said. The chestnut soup that followed was one of my favourite arts of the meal. I could imagine sitting down with a very large bowl of it, and a loaf of crusty bread (for fare la scarpetta) it defies description, it really was that good. The next course was a "crispy pancake with radicchio and parmesan sauce" and although tasty, not my most favourite part of the meal. If I had to find something to complain about, the sauce did seem a little curdled, maybe from the liquid from the radicchio. The main course was a masterful lesson in simplicity. With only a few things on the plate, there is nowhere to hide, and this food really stood up for itself. Soft, tender, melting meat, smooth rich puree, and still crunchy carrots. A real joy. The best way to finish any meal (I think) is with a fresh sorbet, to cleanse the palate. The creamy lemon sorbet did just that. I would happily of eaten two or three, just because they tasted so good. I would happily go back for lunch or dinner (I want to try the Wagyu) and if you are ever anywhere near Hidalgo, please give it a try. You will not be disappointed.More

With a group of 9 with had a nice dinner. The food qualtity was good, but could have been warmer. The staff seemed a bit unorganized, it was not clear who was responsible for what. This showed in the quality of service. As mentioned it...was a nice dinner but did not live up to the expectations.More

We were there for the Beef Tasting Experience including the Southtyrolian and Japanese Wagyu. I've been living in Japan for the last 6 years and have tasted exceptional local Wagyu over there, so my expectations were high. But I was not disappointed at all: The...Wagyu was excellent, high quality and well cooked. The wagyu ravioli, risotto and Knoedl were new to us and particularly tasty combination of Japanese/Southtyrolian/Italian cuisine. We had the chance to taste Wagyu prosciutto as well, it melts on your tongue like no other prosciutto. Finally, the desserts were also delicious, perfect ending of an excellent dinner! I'd definitely recommend Hidalgo Restaurant for special occasions, great location and service!More

We were there with family and friend, a group of 9 people. We had a good time here, enjoyed the starters - you need to taste the wagyu beef filled ravioli- very good. The main dish of course was porterhouse stake from the area -...delicious meet and very good cooked. The do have a grill with up to 900 degrees Celsius and the meat taste like meat not like smoke or something else. The staff was good as well and they do have a good sorted wine list.More

We had two very enjoyable meals at the Hidalgo as we were staying in one of the suites (flats). We enjoyed a three course meal with wine and the only complaint is that in a effort to cut down on oil for healthy eating (very...comendable) the vegetables rather dry. I certainly didn't find the food salty and the herb covering on the steak complemented the meat nicely. The waiting staff were all very friendly and efficient but i think it helps is you speak italian or german.More

As everybody says, the beef here is of good quality, and it is cooked very ably. This is the high point. The problem is sometimes with the rest of the dishes I tried (on a couple of occasions as a resident of the suites). Several...of them were very heavy handed with salt, and the produce was not exceptional: some bland mushrooms, some frankly quite mediocre seafood. However, there were also some high points, such as the sauce in a pasta with lobster. And a good wine list. Prices are reasonable. Service is efficient but not always charming, depending on the server. The environment is pleasant but if you sit outside you will hear the traffic from the main road nearby. I would return just if was in the area and in the mood for a good grilled piece of beef with some reasonably priced wine.More

The most fantastic beef I have ever eaten! The Entrecote met all of my expectations with ease. The service, drinks, food and ambience were exactly what I would expect when having a nice evening out. And they have a very nice wine list. Unfortunately, my...crew didn't have any red drinkers so I settled on a couple of glasses of "Lagrein" as recommended by Otto. The wine was fantastic. this little gem is hidden in a small village outside Bolzano, maybe 15 minutes away. Well worth the drive. This may be the best meat I've ever had in Italy. The owner is very friendly, takes the time to thank you for your business. the...decor is definitely upscale but the atmosphere is also very inviting and casual dress is fine. You can wear anything you want here. You'll find people wearing everything from jeans and t-shirts to fancy dresses and hats. it really was quite a lovely atmosphere for dining. They were even very accomodating about us bringing ourr small dog into the restaurant (I wish you could find more nice restauants in the US where this was the case). We had delicious salads - amazingly fresh and well seasoned. it is NOT easy to find a great salad in Italy in the winter! Two of us had tartare of beef, which they said was the best ever. We all had steaks. Not only was the meat completely fabulous, but their portions come in two sizes listed - 180 grams and 300 grams. How great is that? Again, something I have never seen in Italy. We had such a lovely dinner. We were so happy that we sort of stumbled upon this place and we can't wait to go back. oh - and they actually have a pretty worldly wine list for a restaurant in Italy!More
