Booked a table for myself and wife while staying locally. Done so through the website and was confirmed same day so safe in the knowledge that we had the time we requested. Menu available to view online but one or two things weren’t on the...menu once arrived. Not a massive inconvenience as plenty to go at on the day. Food was great. I had the steak burger and wife had the glazed ham. Reasonable pricing with attentive staff who sorted the little glitch regarding our 4 legged friend, who visited with us.More

Upon arrival we were show to room 1. This room was appalling, one of the headboards was ripped and the bedding was well worn and much passed its best. The paint on the wall above the kettle was peeling off the wall due to the...steam from the kettle, and was also grubby. The TV was on a bracket that was much to big for the size of the TV and there was a hole in the wall where the door had been pushed back onto it. The bathroom was clean but the grout and sealant in the shower were moldy. We had also booked an evening meal in the pub so decided to go and have a drink in the garden and then request another room. We ordered the drinks and went and sat in the garden. The garden was untidy with benches tipped onto their ends and unberellas laid on the floor on the patio. We paid for the drinks and requested to speak to the landlady, who was sat drinking with her friends, about our room. We first requested an alternative room but were told there weren't any free. When asked why we wanted an alternative room we explained, only to be told that the rip in the headboard was 'only small' and that 'there had been no complaints previously'. We were offered a partial refund if we left immediately, she didn't even offer to come back to the room with us to let us show her what we were dissatisfied with. The pictures on the website are not a true representation of how the place currently looks.More

We wanted somewhere to enjoy a quiet drink of an evening whilst staying in the area for a week. We asked if we could reserve a table in the lounge as we were staying in Whitby and didn't want to risk getting a taxi out...to Sleights and not being able to get a seat. This was no trouble at all and our table was reserved each evening. Very pleasant inn, excellent ale (Black Sheep). The new owners Darren & Simone made us feel very welcome. We are back in the area for a week in October and will definitely be back at the plough. Can't understand the negative reviews some people have given. We simply couldn't fault this.More

Firstly I appreciate pubs etc are recovering from a hard time, that said it’s no excuse for poor service . First impressions were , it needs a major tidy up and clean outside , very off putting. We were advised to book which we did,...when we got there “regulars ” were sitting where our reserved table was, we knew this because we saw the name on the table. They weren’t asked to move and we were told they’d try get us somewhere. When seated be prepared for a long wait to be asked what you’d like to drink as it’s table service only, however again not to regulars who often went up to the bar and were greeted by name and asked if they wanted another . Got the menus to find 4 dishes available aside from pizzas, 2 of which were fish based. We ordered our food and there was a fair wait. They were very busy granted , not sure if it’s lack of staff or taking too many orders but the waiting times are very lengthy. Lots of customers coming in from outside to order drinks to be abruptly told “it’s table service only” but as they pointed out there was no one going outside to take orders . Unfortunately we wouldn’t recommend the pub as it is now, we commented along with another couple we got talking to that we felt like the lads who walked into the pub on the film, American werewolf in London 😂More

We booked a table at this pub for 7.00pm and arrived at about 6.55pm. The pub was very busy and we were seated quickly by very friendly staff (the only reason for the 2 stars). Our order was taken quickly and then we waited and...waited and waited. At 8.15pm, our meals arrived. Mine was a vegetable tart with salad. The salad comprised 6 rocket leaves, 4 small cubes of cucumber and a thin slice of onion. More a garnish than a salad! Both our meals had chips, which were pale and only. tepid. Having decided to visit this place after reading the good reviews we were very disappointed, both with the meals and the time it took for them to arrive. We noted that they are advertising for 2nd chef so perhaps they were understaffed in the kitchens but, if so, why overbook??More

There definitely was a dog in the pub when we visited, so they must be allowed. We had 19 of us in a seperate dining area. Didn't prevent us from enjoying a smashing meal
