We were staying nearby in Prines and decided to try Giannikos on our first night. The food was fresh, homemade and tasty. Our three adult sons arrived separately, much later from the airport and Yanni was so kind and fed them even though it was...More

Visitited with kids. We had meatballs for children and moussaka for adults. Food was good, not fabulous but good, and the atmosphere was really nice.

Firstly, we were made to feel very welcome. The staff were great. The menu was explained well and the range of drinks was excellent. We started with tzatziki with village bread and grilled halloumi - it was outstanding. The tzatziki was creamy and minty and...More

All three of the tavernas in Prines were recommended to us by our villa owner so we felt obliged to experience all of them over our 2 week holiday. They are all different but our favourite was Gianniko's due to the enthusiastic and friendly welcome,...More

Looking at the reviews it is hard to be original. Perfect setting, excellent service, extensive menu, all fresh produce and beautifully cooked. But the jewel in the crown is Giannis, the owner. He is charming and funny and makes everyone feel special. He was so...More

Super friendly service and great atmosphere on the outdoor terrace in the centre of Prines village. The host goes out of his way to help and all the food we tried was fantastic. Well worth a trip for reasonably priced classic Greek dishes.

Giannikos Taverna is a traditional Cretan restaurant, a heritage from father to son throughout 3 generations, since 1880. The tradition that is bonded with the restaurant is well maintained until today. Enjoy a delicious meal, taste our local delicacies, enjoy your coffee or a refreshing drink under the shade of the trees of Prines square! All our dishes are homemade with virgin olive oil, fresh meat and vegetables from our farm. Just taste it!
