Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We hadn’t planned going here, just found it when we were enjoying the beautiful coastal views of Madeira. This restaurant is so pretty, the garden is wonderful, the views so stunning. And then those ladies who were taking care of us and serving very tasty...food. It is one of very few places where the staff really show the love for their guests. We had such a wonderful time there. It really made out day, and was one of our absolute highlights of Madeira. Thanks to all the staff. You are amazing…More

The restaurant is a little far off, but located directly at a miradouro. You can enjoy the amazing seaview while enjoying some typical portuguese food. The staff is very friendly and kind. Enjoy a little walk to the lighthouse after youir meal. The location really...makes this place special.More

Very nice and quiet restaurant with a beautiful view of the ocean. The waiters are lovely and speak English with no trouble. The menu is well balanced, even from a nutritional point of view (quite a rarity in a restaurant) and even for vegetarians like...myself. Prices are fair, so I can definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the neighborhood.More

Fantastic little place with super friendly staff. Very reasonable prices. The outside tables are set in a beautiful garden and the ocean view is spectacular. We only had drinks but seemed to be a good choice. Would recommend!

Cha O Fio is a complete delight! Its low-slung building nestled into the herb garden overlooking the Atlantic provides an awesome view that one can see only here or on the windward side of Ohau. The food is solidly delicious, and the service is outstanding....Before or after eating, one should walk to the lighthouse. On the downside, parking can be a pain only because it's such a stunning spot with great food. There are bees, but they're more interested in the herbs and flowers than dining guests.More

We stumbled across "O Fio" while exploring the west of Madeira, and visiting as many miradouroa as we could. We followed a sign from the main road down through a village - the signs got more and more rusty as we drove down, and started...to wonder what we would find. However, we pulled up in the car park and, as well as stunning views along the coast, we were very taken with the cafe, its beautiful herb garden (which is used in their dishes), and the delicious smell of the home cooked food. We decided we'd change our plans (which had been to eat near our hotel in Calheta) and asked for a table. We were served by a member of staff who was inviting, friendly and helpful. I ordered the scabbard fish in wine and garlic (a house speciality) and my wife had an omelette. Both were delicious with a lovely fresh salad and chips (I opted for chips instead of potatoes with the fish). There was a small but tempting set of home-baked desserts. The huge wedge of lemon cake was beautifully moist with a lemon drizzle soaked into the sponge - and the dense, warm, chocolate cake was a real delight. One of our favourite meals of our holiday, and we'd very much recommend it to anyone in the area. It's a busy little place, and for good reason. The only thing to be aware of is that they don't take cards - or at least not on the day we visited. We had cash with us though, so that wasn't a problem.More

We stopped here on our way back to funchal (driving around madeira). OMG, first of all, this place is gorgeous. We've been visiting many beautiful places in Madeira this week but this cliff is just so beautiful and breathtaking. Okay, then there's this restaurant. We...only took deserts and coffee here. Unlike many other places the deserts left us with home made feel and awe! Absolutely fantastic. Do yourself a favor and visit this place for food and sights.More

Fantastic location, good service and well priced food and drink. What more could you ask for? Located out on the western most point of the island you can literally see the sun dip below the horizon. The food was tasty and well priced, though we...only had a dessert and not a full meal. The waitress let us move tables as they became vacated to get the best views of the sunset. All in all a very good experience.More
