Had two meals here whilst staying nearby. The fish was absolutely fabulous. Don’t be put off by having to pick your own fish - the staff provided excellent advice. The restaurant itself is beautiful with wonderful views of the harbour

We visited this fantastic fish restaurant whilst on holiday in Camara De Lobos. Spectacular views over the village and cove were surpassed only by the professionalism of staff - and the fish! Having eaten freshly- landed fish, cooked expertly, we were treated to an accomplished...demonstration of the art of Poncha making by Carlos who was happy to share not only his skills but, more importantly, the recipe! The holiday highlight.More

Slightly worried after seeing previous reviews but transport arrived on time, welcomed to our table with wonderful views. Prompt service to take our order and we all chose our fishes but ……. Long wait for drinks, still waiting for our starters after an hour and...then the fish arrived! We did get an apology as order for four fish soup not put through. To be fair to the waiters they tried hard to redeem themselves and all our fish dishes were superb. Lovely homemade desserts and coffee and complimentary poncha or an alternative. We were told time of return trip and we were outside by the time this arrived so much better than some reviews. In the end we had a lovely meal so definitely would recommend trying this restaurantMore

I have been coming to Madeira for a number of years. The people, the restaurants we visited were outstanding until we came to this Restaurant. We had fish, salad and some wine. It was expensive for what we had. You pay for the view. We...couldn’t help feeling it was a tourist trap. Be warned. We will never returnedMore

The service was second to nothing - we were seated outside and completely abandoned - had to ask for menus and cutlery because no one even came to say hello and give us a menu. Ordered the starter of the day and received dry stale...bread.. waited about an hour for mains to come. Just felt like we were completely forgotten about and really disappointing experience.More

We arrived with high hopes and expectations of what we had heard was an excellent dining experience. This was sadly not to be the case.. Having been shown to a table outside and waiting 15 minutes we went back inside to collect our own menu’s...and ask how it all worked with fish selection.. Another 15 minute wait and a server eventually came outside to take a drinks order from us, a sangria, we specified red. 15 more minutes… fed up of waiting for someone to take our food order we took ourselves to the fish counter and settled on our selection of dishes. Once seated back outside and another 10 minute wait a server came out with a white sangria, not the red. That was taken in to be changed.. Our bread and butter arrived that was supposed to include a pâté and olives they were not included. Alongside this were the prawns which we can’t complain about they were great. Once eaten and attention finally caught of another server after yet another 15 minute wait we proceeded to explain the olives and pate had not arrived with the now eaten bread and butter. At the end of our disappointing meal we wasted another 10 minutes trying to get the attention of someone to get the bill, we received it, once received we proceeded to wait until we realised nobody was coming so left feeling we should not have left the full price for a meal where we felt completely neglected for the duration.More

Vila do Peixe is a more relaxed local-style restaurant. You choose fish from the slab, it is weighed and priced so you know how much it is going to cost and then cooked. We all had scorpion fish which was expensive but very good. Staff...were good as was the wine. The restaurant has a great view out over Camaro do Lobos to the sea.More

We waited over an hour for our first course. In this resturant you choose your main and it is cooked. The order for the first course had not been placed with the kitchen. As a consequence the starter came BUT the mains were overlooked and...disappointing. To add to this very poor service, the bill had an error which may have been genuine but would have had to be for an enormous fish of this species so that the error should have been spotted. It was an overcharge of in excess of €30. We did not leave a tip.More

I’ll caveat my comments by saying the hospitality industry in many countries is stretched due to staffing issues but why book more customers in than the staff can reasonably serve well. The consequence are the reviews given & reduced bookings ? On a positive the...staff on the night were helpful, courteous & knowledgeable. The food was excellent- my wife & I had the couvets which was a step above the usual bread rolls / sticks & sardine pâté in a foil pack. We chose parrot fish & dragon fish ( both meaty fish) as they are very unusual. I preferred the parrot fish ( sweeter) - my wife will revert to dourada/ bass etc. The staters came fairly quickly - then 50 minutes later our fish arrived. The view from the restaurant is very good - would I return in the short term - no due to the service / staff levelsMore

Ordered a vegan rice with veggies, was completely drenched in oil and way over salted and overpriced. No compensation of any kind was offered and I payed full price and was left hungry.
