It was amazing!!! You get to choose your fresh fish from restaurants ice table and they make it how it should be made. We had a lobster tasting fish with tomato and onion salad and deep fried polenta. Their original madeiran bread with butter and...garlic was sooooo good ❤️ prices are really affordable!More

Our table by the window had a wonderful view of the lights around the harbour and beyond but overall we were disappointed by the food and very poor service. Our waiter was having a bad day, he almost slammed things on to the table, made...little effort to explain how the selection of fish worked or what type of fish there were. Occasionally a different waiter came to our table and the change in attitude was remarkable. We had scabbard fish which was pretty bland and needed a good sauce. The baked portages were Ok but probably microwaved. We decided not to go to the sister, Vila Da Carne, restaurant because of our poor experience hereMore

I have never given anything a one star review before but I suppose there is a first time for everything. The positives - the restaurant looks good and has a great view out to sea. The less positive aspects - the chef clearly has a...huge tolerance to salt as all of our starters and the main courses were over salted, our seafood rice to the point where we could not and did not eat it. The real killer is that this food is supported by completely indifferent service. I would estimate that the various waiters who came to our table spoke less than 100 words during our entire meal experience. This complete lack of communication of course meant that nobody bothered to enquire about our experience, though the full plates and bowl were perhaps an indication, so we left without voicing or dissatisfaction. This is all compounded by it being not just the worst meal we ate during our stay in Madeira but also the most expensive. Eat here at your own risk. The view alone is not worth it.More

We set outside and had a lovely view of the town. We had made prior reservations because we wanted to visit this restaurant for some time. The food was good but the very poor service made us decide not to go there a second time....Waiter threw the food on the table and was spilling wine and water.More

This is one of the more upscale restaurants in Câmara do Lobos. We had a reservation for 4 for an early booking but still didn’t get one of the coveted window tables. There is a fish counter and you go there to choose your fish...and order it. I was with three companions who enjoy seafood, but I chose this restaurant because they had a few vegetarian options, something that is kind of hard to find in this area. My companions enjoyed their seafood. Unfortunately, the vegetarian burger was not only merely adequate (I generally have low expectations in this scenario, but still), but the waiter seemed to be mocking me when he brought it to the table. He loudly repeated that he had a CHEESEBURGER, and when I indicated that yes, this was for me, he didn’t serve it, but laughed and loudly repeated that I had ordered a CHEESEBURGER three times. Now, I have no problem with what other people eat, and would not mock a meat eater. I am not a foodie and am generally just happy to have something I can eat when I am out with friends. This was very embarrassing for me, however. I realize that I ordered a vegetarian dish at a fish restaurant, but they have it on the menu. It was literally why we chose this over other restaurants that do not have a vegetarian dish. I was so uncomfortable. So, verdict is that this place is good if you enjoy seafood, but don’t come if you are a vegetarian. The other servers seemed fine.More

The restaurant occupies a superb position overlooking the picturesque harbour. The building is modern, stylish and airy with an ample use of glass to maximise the views. Service was not a strongpoint, though the guys dealing with the fish were very helpful, advising on portion...sizes and approximate costs. Great variety of fresh fish-we opted for the Dorada and Red Bream, both of which were excellent and not as expensive as we expected. A decent wine list. All in all a very pleasant evening as we also enjoyed a free shuttle bus to and from our holiday home atop Cabo Girao.More

We had been private guests of the house, so MAYBE the staff treated us specially, but we also saw happy faces on the surrounding tables. Vila do Peixe was an overall amazing experience. Great starters, tasty sides & salad, perfect wines and just beautiful fish!...Not to talk about the scenery itself in the tropical garden with a once in a lifetime view into the bay! THANK YOU SO MUCH to all the staff and the boss himself! Obrigadu! Dietmar, Renate, Monika and PeterMore

We arrived a little early for our reservation but we left sort of wandering around the restaurant being ignored by staff, some seemed to be eating whilst others just walked straight past us ignoring us. When we were sat down it was all a bit...confusing with the ordering and not overly clear. We ordered drinks and specifically asked for ice which did not arrive, asked again and it didn’t happen and then again after 15 minutes it finally arrived. The restaurant was insanely hot and only when we were almost done did another waiter offer to open the window… The waiters recommendation for fish was good and the cover charge starter was generous and again basic but tasty. Our mains arrived when we were still eating starters which was peculiar but being fresh fish we didn’t want it to go cold so just accepted it. Asked for fresh lemon for fish and again acknowledged but completely ignored and never received. Finished mains and tbh we just wanted to leave , we were hot and the food was overly average. Asked for the bill… 20 minutes later asked again and finally received. Maybe just a bit of a tourist trap but there was just no friendliness or welcoming atmosphere like we have experienced elsewhere in our two weeks in Madeira. It all seemed very cold and like no one really cared which is a shame with its location and beautiful fresh fish at its disposal.More

We reserved a table on recommendation from a family member. The waiters seemed quite arrogant and we weren’t quite sure how to order our meal, as part of it had to be ordered at the fish counter. We eventually ordered wine, starters and fish accompaniment’s....We ordered our fish at the counter. When we returned to the table the wine had arrived but it was unopened. Trying to attract the attention of a waiter to rectify this proved to be nigh on impossible, so we waited until the starters arrived to get the bottle opened. Our starters were all nice. We waited around 40 minutes for our main course to arrive. When it did, the vegetables were nice and hot but sadly, the fish was luke warm. We told the waiter that the fish wasn’t hot but sadly he did nothing. The meal cost €120 for three, so I would expect better service and attention to detail.More

Visited one evening on our holiday after looking at reviews on here, unfortunately the reviews weren’t correct. Nice location, food was ok but the service was dreadful, I don’t think I have been in such a badly managed restaurant before. Not recommended by me.

Very lovely setting with views over Churchills Bay for us it was a wonderful setting. Staff very professional and friendly. If you choose to pick your fish from the display the staff will advise on portion size and price; they set an expectation so that...you do not buy too much for you. For example we had grouper that weighed 900g and we were told that would be sufficient for two people. We considered the price to be reasonable given the setting service and food quality. We are having our “last supper” there on our last night before we head home. They also offer a free shuttle service to and from the restaurant depending on where you are staying in the area.More

We turned up at about 5pm without a reservation and were found a table outside. This is a restaurant for fish lovers. Young waiters were attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Service was of a high standard. Fish was amongst the best we have ever had, cooked...simply, as were the vegetables. Wine was very good from a reasonably priced list. Our expectations were moderate and they were hugely exceeded, so suggest you expect good, rather than great. From other comments, perhaps the time we visited affected the service we received - we enjoyed it so much, we shall probably go again at a busier time; I shall comment again, if we do.More
