Simple restaurant
Located in the heart of of Câmara de Lobos, the Vila do Peixe and Vila da Carne Restaurants overlook this picturesque fishing village and the most photographed bay in Madeira. Their modern warehouse design, using large glass panes to make the most of the spectacular views, makes them both welcoming and informal. Both offer an interior (with sliding glass panels to provide a real alfresco feeling for those balmy Madeiran days and nights), and an exterior terrace with large sun umbrellas, and customers are always able to choose their preferred ambiance. The Vila do Peixe reflects the best traditions of grilling the day's catch by the sea. Using only the freshest of fish, it is prepared in the

Went tonight. Slow, as in S L O W service. Like 20 minutes to get a drink. Another 20 for appetisers. Then asked were are our main courses? Yes you guessed it. Nearly 20 minutes wait for those. Didn’t bother with dessert or coffee. Food...- good. Service - way too few serving people.More

Delicious fresh shellfish beautifully complimented by butter and chilli then the freshest fish and cold Portuguese white wine in great company with a veautiful sunset. Just felt service a little slow and then rushed to leave for complimentary transfer, no time for liquor or dessert....BUT fab setting and freshness of foodMore

Was really looking forward to lunch here but what a let down. The food was okay - we had fish and shellfish rice/spaghetti and while the fish was plentiful, the sauce was nondescript. What really let this place down was the lack of interest from...the staff. Took ages to be greeted - despite the fact that there were only approx 12 tables in this huge restaurant occupied and then 45 mins to get some food. We were served with our first glass of wine and then they never came near us again until we asked for the bill. Not a cheap lunch and felt they made zero effort to make us feel welcome. Would definitely not recommendMore

We went at Vila do Peixe for lunch, after a nice walk from Sao Martinho to Camara de Lobos. The interior part of the restaurant has a lovely decor, while the terrace offers a very nice view over the harbour and the ocean. The Bolo...do Caco we had here was the best we had in Madeira!!! It was well crispy and roasted on the outside and with a generous amount of butter, garlic and parsley on the inside! Both of us had octopus: Octopus Vila do Peixe (veeeery tasty with a sauce made with onion and olive oil) and Vinaigrette Octopus (also very fresh and delicious). The side dishes were steamed vegetables and boiled potatoes with sea salt and olive oil (these were a hit!). Next time I'll come for the desert too :) since we had to go and meet a friend this time. Highly reccomend this place!More

Staying in Funchal this restaurant is around 10-15 mins away…but do not let this put you off booking a table as the restaurant supplied a free courtesy minibus that will pick you up at your hotel at your desired time & also drop you back...to your hotel after your meal saving any taxi costs or the worry of having a drink & having to drive your rental back ! The staff are extremely attentive & friendly. There is a specials / fish board to view & to give you an idea on price, but basically you go up to the fresh fish counter & choose your fish which is then cooked over flames. We went for the red mullet which was superb. For starters we had the grilled calamari, Prawns ‘Vila do Peive’ & Octopus in Vinaigrette. Every dish was exceptional & after eating at some of the best restaurants that Madeira has to offer this week, this was certainly in the top bracket ! Would 💯 recommend this restaurant if visiting the island…..More

We read the reviews and expected a fabulous meal at this’ll restaurant after many good meals out in several other local places during our holiday. Waiting 50 minutes to have Goncales come back to our table to take our main food order after stating we...would like a calamari starter was poor. The calamari was okay though the rich fish soup I then had was lacking seasoning & my wife’s cream of vegetable soup tasted like a packet mix. Fish and seafood spaghetti for 2 was tasty once we asked for black pepper as once again the seasoning was not brilliant. The accompanying white wine we had was excellent which it should have been as we had the same one in another restaurant. First meal we have had in Camara de Lobos where we didn’t leave a tip. If this is supposed to be Michelin then I think it has a flat tyre.More

We visited this restaurant for dinner basing on good ratings and Michelin recommendation, hoping to eat some tasty local dishes. Just 3 or 4 tables were occupied, so we expected quick service. Unfortunately the waiters were running like in panic, brought us some starter which...we even didn't order. Waiting time to order about >20 minutes, and then 1,5 hours (!!!) until we've got what we ordered - mostly sterters! Some people came after us, ate and left. And we were still waiting... One and a half hour! The food was very poor, nothing special, one of the worst fish soups in my life. Similar situation with fish. At the end they charged us 23€ for the startes which we didn't order. I dont know where the positive ratings come from and basing on what Michelin is recommending this restaurant, but it has nothingto do with reality. Complete disaster, avoid this place if possible.More

We went to Vila Do Peixe in the fishing village of Camera de Lobos hoping for a great supper: strangely Funchal isn’t amazing for super-fresh, simple seafood. Unfortunately Vila Do Peixe is not your place. The evening that we went there was palpable panic amongst...the staff. It seemed as though every table had their issues, and ours was no different. We waited an hour for starters(€24 prawns): which didn’t come at the same time. Our preferred wine was apparently not available so first came a bottle of red (?!), followed by a(n unannounced) totally different white. Having been at the restaurant for more than 1.5 hours and our main still not arrived we enquired. We were presented by cold fish that had evidently been thrown back on the grill for a minute to simulate recent cooking. It had to be sent back. We asked for the bill quickly after: at which full price was charged for everything minus the cold fish. Bad service, low quality remediation. It’s an expensive restaurant that is in no way worth the outlay or the detourMore

Fresh fish, amaizing clams, for a touristic place was also cheap. I strongly recommended for the local dish and for the view.

Very nice place, food and service. However, take care to the bill … they cheat you… on me around of 10% … and when I complained they tried to explain that black is white … avoid this place. There are many others very very good!
