Firstly, we wish people would not review a restaurant, because they could not get to the bar. We had visited Trelissick Gardens nearby and had forgotten it was fathers' day, so we were pleasantly surprised to be found a table. Drinks were ordered and delivered...More

I had my wedding reception here 38years ago! First visit back, Little change apart from some outside seating. However I don't remember too much of it. Dark inside decor a little tired. I suppose that might be to add to the atmosphere of an old...More

We've eaten here several times now and never been disappointed. There is always service with a smile, and the staff can't do enough for you. The food is of a very high standard and beautifully presented.

Love this place. Always welcoming, and fab local food. Child friendly but also large enough for people/couples to dine away from families if desired! Lots of locals always on, but never intimidating.

Iconic thatched pub, with a lovely "feel" to it. We were staying locally and liked the food and atmosphere so much on the first visit, we returned the following night. Sirloin steak was beautifully cooked, the vegetarian tart was lovely, and the sole and salad...More

The service and food was all good but just a minor point, Fish and Chips should really come with chips and not wedges, however you exchanged them for what you referred to as skinny chips (of the frozen variety I'm guessing) without fuss, so thanks...More

Lovely old pub, friendly staff, good food. Ruined by faux landed gentry customers at the bar. Loud, and rude. As for the denizens of the smoking area, we should have just not bothered.

Am thinking of booking for 8 people on Sunday 20th Nov for early dinner. I note some mixed reviews and therefore in need of confidence. Is the head chef likely to be on duty ? It is an important occasion for me and would normally have gone to Castaways but for the fact they are closed. Roger Bower

Description
A pretty, thatched traditional pub and restaurant, the Punchbowl and Ladle has masses of character both inside and out. Parts of the building date back to the 15th century and during the 17th century it was a hostelry for travellers and mariners crossing the river Fal on the King Harry Ferry. Legend has it that part of the building was employed as a customs house, and the original fireplace in the bar was used to destroy confiscated contraband! Today, Graham & Jacqui Hill and their team welcome you warmly into the pub that has two bars, a large dining area and plenty of cosy nooks and corners for people to sit in comfort.
