Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tasty enough, small portions and expensive. We were walking so only wanted light food. I ordered mushroom soup and it was tasty. But! bread would be charged extra for. I did not really want bread but my friend did. I expected to see some nice...home baked style bread, no just normal bread. Not bad or not suitable but when paying extra for it above the table charge it would be nice to get some Extra special bread. Overall it was perfectly acceptable and I would go back if friends wanted to go but with the caution of watching the costs. However I would not choose to go back.More

This may have been the best lunch we had on Crete. The food was simply delicious and there were plenty of vegetarian options.

Absolutely incredible food. Flavours you might not see anywhere else in Crete. For appetisers we were served orzo, artichokes and a Cretan salad. All were delicious and very fresh. Main course was chicken. Smoked and grilled and was incredibly tender and juicy. Desert was whipped...graviera cheese. All dishes were wonderful. Lamb was very tender too with handmade pasta. Wine is very smooth. Warning that there is some goats on the way there tooMore

We had a thoroughly lovely lunch, and we loved the fact that they took traditional dishes and gave them a twist. Anchovy in the fava, unusual foraged greens, amazing artichokes. We had a lovely lovely meal. And the reviews about the difficult road etc -...really, the road was perfectly fine. Fennel pie and their mushroom tart a must! One thing that could really make a difference - an awning outside would make the tables more usable!More

My wife and her parents had lunch here twice in late April. The food is exceptional. It has real taste. The chef and waiter - Philippo - too were very professional. Calling it professional makes it sound cold; it’s not. It is worth the trek...alone for the fennel pie, goat from the oven, fave and yes the water! The water is from a mountain spring and it is wonderful. The wine is also great and dining here reminds me of what food use to taste like before food became industrially produced. The restaurant because of its location attracts more adventurous and culturally curious travellers. We highly recommend it.More

The place is quiet, service is perfect. Food is tasty, their chef is really good! Location is near village Vlatos, there are enough signs on the road to assist. The last part of the road is not a paved one, but totally worth the visit!

We loved our stay at this wonderful retreat. Besides the wonderful hospitality, the food was superb. Mealtimes became the highlight of our stay and every meal - from breakfast to dinner was a new adventure! Local and home made wines, creative but traditional mazes and...mains..... all beautifully prepared with care and love. We can't wait to go back soon!More

We stop here after the loop by villages, starting at the tavern. We share a creatn salad, snails, carob tart with rabit and mushrooms and smoked sausage. All was terrific with a special mention at the carob tart, absolutely not to miss. The bread is...excellent, the service ath the cretan way...smiling. Don't forget to buy honey, jams, herbs...More

This is not your typical Greek or Cretan experience, The Milia Mountain Retreat is an upper end restaurant in the libations 40 minutes by car from Chania. We came here for a change from the beach life and to escape the crowd in Chania and...we were very pleasantly surprised by this eco-tourism paradise. The dishes are very carefully prepared and mainly revisions of traditional Greek plates, all made with truly local products. The Staka Butter Cream is hands down one of the best dishes we’ve tried in our life and even if I have been back since over 1 month from vacation I still dream of their dessert - I can’t remember the name but I attach a picture. Absolutely worth the visitMore

Thank you so much for the kind words but allow me to correct something. From Chania Center, you need at least 60 min. drive. You may be needed just 40 min. as your hotel maybe was in the western part of the Chania region. Looking...More

The place itself is fantastic, the views, road, village, the atmosphere. Feels great. We ordered quite a few things, can't remember exact names. Tomato sauce was fantastic, meals were served very nicely, so it looked great. We tried maybe 6-7 courses (including starters and desserts)....Most was OK/good, deserts were poor. Deserts looked the best, but they do not know how to make a good ice cream. On the other hand, they make the best rakomelo I tried. The place is definitely worth a visit, but do not expect extraordinary food. It feels like the chef is trying too hard to impress the guests but misses the basics.More

After some changes in the kitchen, this restaurant is once more serving authentic and delicious Cretan food, including dishes not often found elsewhere and certainly not of such fine quality. Wonderful!

It’s worth being aware that to get here the drive is a bit hair raising. The road turns into a dirt track but do persevere, it’s absolutely worth it. The restaurant sits in a cluster of renovated buildings you can stay in, and most of...the ingredients are produced on site. Everyone is very welcoming and a beautiful setting in amongst the mountains. The food was delicious. Probably the best meal we had whilst in Crete. Worth the drive for the goat ravioli which were delicious. Felt like an adventure for which we were rewarded with an excellent meal!More

A very nice restaurant in the middle of the mountain where to have a good meal. Be prepared for the road to reach the restaurant by car as there are many curves.

I would suggest you book a table yes, especially if you would prefer to sit on the balcony. One day earlier it's ok.
