Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have been visiting the Old Hall for many years now and the one word that springs to mind is consistency. 1) The food is excellent, no where else in Shropshire can you get Persian food like this. Made fresh to order, great ingrediencies, make...with tender love and care. You cannot beat the table banquet. from fish, meat, vegetable dishes, it just doesn't stop and the flat bread is to die for..... 2) then there is Mrs Lal, Dr Lal's wife. She runs front of house with Dr Lal often cooking in the kitchen. She meets you with a permanent smile and a very warm welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for her. A better host you would have to travel a long way to find. Its a hidden gem, not far outside Shrewsbury, but absolutely worth the drive. I don't even mind being the nominated driver, as i look forward to each visit so much. Ian, MandyMore

Had a brilliant meal here. On a tuesday evening in early November. We were the only people in the restaurant when we arrived, and while initially dubious, we had a fantastic meal. All the food was fresh and delicious, and it was wonderful to try...the selection of dishes available. I really think the restaurant could benefit from some clearer advertising, but we were genuinely impressed. Many thanks!More

Tired of curries and indiscernible flavours we tried this Persian restaurant. The flavour combinations were, as the chef stated on the menu, all his own recipes. The Ghormeh Sabzi, ( vegetarian/ vegan/ gf) considered by some as a Persian national dish, the Lamb Nihari and...the lamb shank ( understandably needing to be ordered 6 hours in advance)were exceptional complemented by authentic naan the like ( and size) of which we have experienced nowhere else in our UK dining experience. Diners whether vegetarian, gluten intolerant or avid carnivores will find dishes to please prepared and served by those who have grown up in Persia/ Iran with skills probably learnt in their mother's kitchen.More

This was our second visit to this restaurant. Both times, the food has been outstanding. It's an interesting menu - similar to Indian with some common spices and methods - but altogether distinctive, authentic and delicious. You can select the level of spicy heat. Every...dish seems to be freshly prepared, with freshly ground spices. As we all know, this is very unusual in most Indian restaurants! The service is really friendly and charming. Plenty of easy parking. It's about 15 mins drive from centre of Shrewsbury. The wine list is quite broad in choice - good staples plus a few good unusual wines, like Massaya from Lebanon. Try this place - it's really good!More

We recently stayed nearby. Since reading the menu online we'd been looking forward to eating here. With so many delicious choices on the menu we opted for the tasting banquet. We phoned ahead the day before as we wanted an early evening takeaway. On arrival...at the restaurant we were personally welcomed by the chef who said he was just cooking our meal with fresh ingredients, the aromas from the kitchen were very encouraging. Once back at our accommodation we unpacked our feast. Many different dishes all of which had their own unique aromatic flavour. Delicious. We even forwarded the menu and photos to a friend with Persian / Iranian heritage who says she'd love to join us but was sadly over 200 miles away. A truly fantastic meal and we can't wait to return on our next holiday. Thank you.More

Absolutely perfect evening. On reading the menu we weren't quite sure what to expect, ... what arrived at out table was truly beautiful, tasty Persian food, cooked to perfection and beautifully fresh. The owner Chef even took the time to come out and introduce himself...and have a chat with the diners. Very very appreciated tasty quality evening. We highly recommend and look forward to retuning. Many thanks from the Granger family. 07534 057 212More

We last went to this restaurant about 9 years ago and fell completely in love with the food, especially the banquet. As we had a planned trip to North Wales we decided to do a detour on our way and spent the night in Shropshire...so we could make a reservation at Old Hall. Although it looks a bit tatty from the outside, we were eagerly looking forward to our meal. Imagine the disappoint when we were told there were no more buffets/banquets since lock down and the menu was very reduced. Our food was OK but a bit dry (no sauce to speak of) but after reading comments from other trip advisors perhaps we went on a bad day. I did check their web site before booking and they do still state they do buffets so check if everything is up to date.More

I cannot understand why this place is not booked out every single night. The food is delicious, the wine is well chosen and priced very reasonably. We opted for the tasting menu and enjoyed every single one of the dishes. The first time I came...here, I chose the tasting menu so that on a subsequent visit I could choose from the a la carte menu knowing which dishes I really loved. That plan didn't work because I still couldn't choose one dish over another. They are all good. And the best bit is that I only live a few minutes walk away!More

Delicious Persian food and welcoming staff. We had the banquet tasting menu which was really filling and really showcased the chef’s Persian cookery skills. Don’t be put off by the slightly aged looking sign outside, it’s lovely inside. We will definitely be back again!
