MICHELIN Guide's Point of View

With its 15C origins and smartly thatched roof, this may look like a typical English pub, but this is no ordinary village local. Mike and Imogen bought...

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

My husband treated me to a date night with taster menu and wine flight. I was blown away by the phenomenally delicious food, and the charisma of Pedro, the sommelier. All the wait staff were friendly and confident and knew all about the dishes -...such a pleasure to be served by people who appear to enjoy their work and put all their enthusiasm into it. The food was superb. A highlight was the duck liver parfait with mini brioche, pineapple, ginger and chilli. It was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. The food was thoughtfully prepared with exceptional seasoning on beautifully chosen crockery. The wine flight was wonderful and our only problem was the red wine which was served too cold. Pedro understood our issue, spoke eloquently about the tannin content and the reason for serving at that temperature, but then brought us out the wine at room temperature so we could compare it for ourselves. He was extremely generous with the wine. We would have liked the meal to have taken a little bit longer, but when we requested a break in the meal, they were happy to accommodate us. On the whole, 9/10. What I would really love though, is a menu without prices when I am being taken out for a treat. This used to be the case once - please bring it back again!More

An amazing pub/restaurant. The tasting menu was delicious and well worth the money. The staff were very friendly and helpful and even drove us back to our accommodation at the end of the night as the taxi would have been expensive. Would recommend to all!

I was treated to a gorgeous meal here for my birthday on 30/9/23. We both had the tasting menu at lunchtime with the wine flight pairing. 9 courses of the most delicious food and our sommelier Pedro was so knowledgeable and passionate. Our experience was...impeccable and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a passion for beautiful food and delicious pairings of wine. Faultless!More

With Michael North back in the kitchen, The Nut Tree is back at its best. We had the tasting menu at lunchtime (£105) and every course was beautifully prepared and tasty. The over-salty bread has gone. Difficult to choose the best courses, but the sea...bass, beef and apple crumble soufflé were all yummy.More

Another super lunch at this wonderful Michelin starred pub. We went to celebrate a birthday and they happily accommodated us sitting outside as the weather brightened and let us swap a couple of dishes on the tasting menu. Wonderful food and attentive and kind staff....Would thoroughly recommend.More

Yesterday my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at the nut tree, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we stepped into this place, we were greeted by the staff and locals, overall a...great ambience, lovely country pub with some fabolous food and a very interesting wine list, Every dish was a work of art, definitely a good value for a well deserved Michelin Stared cuisine. We had a wonderful experience, see you again!More

This was a special lunch for us, having been gifted to us by the family to celebrate us both being in our 80s. In spite of (because of?) our age, we've been privileged to dine very well in all kinds of restaurants in countries all...around the world. This was certainly up there with the best. The initial impression, of a pretty pub in a rural setting, was matched by the warm and enthusiastic welcome. We had time to sit in the very comfortable bar area with a G & T while we made our choices from the lunchtime menu (relatively limited but perfectly balanced). Service was quick, personal and charming, as befits a Michelin star rating - it's not always only the food but also the overall ambience. So, would we go back? You bet!More

There was a large group of us who recently dined here - We did the tasting menu with wine flight. From start to finish it was AMAZING. There is absolutely nothing we could fault, and that is coming from 15 picky retail professionals who usually...find something to moan about haha! The staff were friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable & professional. The food was out of this world - Both the taste & presentation were incredible. The wine complimented each course perfectly & was explained to us in great detail whilst being served. We were quite a late table & large party and were never made to feel rushed out of the door despite it getting late. They even helped us get taxi's home and were extremely patient with us. In a "Nut" shell - HIGHLY RECCOMEND - VIST VIST VIST! Thank you to everyone at the Nut tree - A real gem you have there! Team JLR :) xxMore

Overall Disappointed This was a special occasion our 30 th wedding anniversary. We were looking forward to the tasting menu. The pub itself is comfortable and nice enough. We did have a nice welcome, but no congratulations on our anniversary. The food was ok, my...husband had to season every savoury course, not Michelin star in our opinion. There were some nice things on the menu the passion fruit soufflé, steak tar tar. However one course was two boiled potatoes and a bit of veg - surely not! The staff are mostly young and though trained not the professionals I would expect. We were rather irritated by the table next to us loudly discussing the flight of wine with the wine waiter - I think that was just unlucky.More

WARNING!!! Don’t be fooled by the taster menu only option- you can have bar food if you don’t eat in the restaurant. We went for dinner with friends. We’ve eaten here before for lunch and , although expensive, we enjoyed our meal. On arrival we were...informed that there was only the tasting menu available at £115. Didn’t say that on the website? Long story short, big plate, small food, all cold, bar the courgette soup. 6 slices of bread each to fill up. We went back the next evening to collect an item left behind, only to find out that there was a bar menu!!! Why didn’t they offer us that the night before when we were clearly surprised at the only option of the taster menu??More
