Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really busy place, fantastic service! I had the Ham, egg and chips and it was perfect and plenty of it. chips were proper homemade chips! My friend had a panini and said it was lovely. And we were piggy’s and took some cake home and...oh my days they were lush!! Will definitely be back! We need more places like this in the Scarborough area.More

The cafe was really busy which is lovely to see, even so the staff were working really hard to keep everyone tended to and accommodated, especially Taz who was very helpful and friendly. The food was fantastic and the products used of very good quality....Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area and will definitely be visiting again soon.More

I visited here for afternoon tea with my husband. I have heard many glowing reviews so was keen to go and try the cakes! Afternoon tea consisted of: One pot of tea for 2. 4 slices of bread made into, tuna, ham, cheese and pickle...and egg mayo sandwiches. 2 mini sausage rolls 2 mini quiches 2 scones 2 small slices of Victoria sponge 2 small pieces of tiffin Salad garnish (mixed lettuce, half a tomato and a splash of dressing). Although the food was nice (not fantastic) I really don't thinks it was worth £33! The sandwiches were basic, tuna lacked flavour, I'm no Gordon Ramsay but even I know when something requires more seasoning. The quiche was very soft and tasteless, the sausage rolls were good, maybe a little bigger (especially for the price). The tiffin was poor, digestive biscuits and raisins set in chocolate ganache with sprinkles, more of a kids party cake than afternoon tea. The Victoria sponge was ok, very small slices compared to the wedges on the counter. Scones were nice with jam and clotted cream. Overall very underwhelmed, I wouldn't go back, I think there is better out there for the same price. For £33 I expected something a bit different, like a more unusual sandwich filling or unique cake. Can't knock the staff, very friendly and the cafe was clean.More

Popped in on a Wednesday mid morning, the cafe was not too busy, the staff where very efficient and friendly. We had a full breakfast with extra scrambled egg and a breakfast burger both very good. Would recommend for quality and value.

A lovely setting and, on the surface at least, the Yew Tree has lots going for it. Many tables already booked at 1045. However we stopped here for a coffee which we found rather disappointing. We have been really surprised at how good cafes have...become at presenting their coffees, showing expertise at making the full repertoire, at various locations on the East Coast. But here, the coffees were like something from the bad old days. We suggest proper training for the baristas.More

What a lovely little place! We had breakfast here after staying the night before at The Plough over the road. The cafe is so pretty with the flowers in the window and was already busy as soon as it opened at 10am. We chose to...sit outside and watch the world go by. We both had a sausage sandwich in a fluffy white bap with a hash brown and a pot of tea. The food was lovely and the service nice and friendly. Our bill came to just under £17 which I thought was great value . Would highly recommend.More

Business partner and I ordered ham and cheese quiche salad. When it arrived it was basically an egg pie. Round deep pie with little or no filling other than gooey egg. Salad consisted of rocket with a dressing. Slaw was red cabbage with mayo. Ate...here before and was nice. Very disappointing. Won’t be back.More

A beautiful sunny ☀️ day and I was meeting my friend on a spur of the moment get together. I had been to the beautician’s opposite this cafe and was ready for a pot of tea! On entering it was busy and I was greeted...by a lovely smiley lady who asked me if I had booked then showed me to a table by the window. I hadn’t booked as it had been a spontaneous decision but I would definitely recommend to for new customers like me! I ordered a pot of tea and perused the menu, while waiting for my friend. The atmosphere was lovely with many tables busy. Being disabled I felt a bit conspicuous but all the lovely friendly Staff helped my anxiety and I relaxed. When my friend arrived I wanted to see how much time she had and we ordered lunch of tuna sandwiches. I LOVE tuna and this was the BEST tuna sandwich I have EVER had!! I took a photo of it as I could not believe how good it was! The tea, which I can’t take with milk anymore, was as beautiful as a clear amber pool and so refreshing with NO sediment in it, which again I’d never experienced before. My friend and I had a lovely relaxing time and I was tempted by the beautiful array of freshly made cakes on display. I since found out that they actually do food to order and will put up a photo of it. Again it was the best lightest fruitiest cake ever… it tasted like it was so full of vitamins and good things that I thought it had been made by Angels… I later found out the chef that day was JENNY and whom I thanked later on. The bathroom was also a lovely experience… it is suitable for everyone including DISABLED and has supportive aids if needed, which I did. In addition to that the decor was awesome and consisted of lists of famous cast members from concerts around the area… so unique and interesting! I think I have taken a couple of photos to include with this review. On leaving I thanked the staff and paid the bill and left a tip as all of them had been so kind that I wanted the Management to know what incredible staff they have in MILLIE, JESS and in mega chef JENNY!!! Thank YOU ALL for a wonderful experience one that I hope to repeat very soon :) Many blessings to you ALL xxxxMore

We have stayed locally on several occasions previously but this time we found that our normal ‘go to’ breakfast establishment was closed until early January so we looked for an alternative. We found the Yew Tree Cafe on TA and so thought we’d give it...a try - i, my Fiancée and our teenage daughter have been everyday for breakfast since which says all you need to know. Lovely little establishment, very friendly and attentive staff and lovely food. So far it has been full at every visit with some customers having to be turned away (so best to pre-book as we did) but it seems like many of the regular customers are locals, which perhaps underlines the quality of service. Their classic English breakfast is superb and very ample! Don’t hesitate, give them a visit !More

We came across this place by chance, during a long walk. We’re glad we did – it’s a real find. The welcome was warm and friendly – even though it was nearly lunchtime and we just wanted drinks. We were given a sun-kissed table by...the window and we felt right at home among all the lucky people there who were enjoying the lovely-looking food. Next time, we’ll make sure we’re there when we’re hungry!More

Wow, last time we visited this cafe was, would you believe it, in the 1980s when I lived in Scarborough and went to school at Scalby not far from here. We visited as a family in August 2022 to have a nice lunch and we...were not disappointed. Friendly service combined with a really tasty lunch - I particularly enjoyed my steak sandwich with blue cheese dressing - really yummy, and my teenagers rated the all day breakfast 10/10. Cakes followed and were excellent - the chocolate brownie in particular got the thumbs up from the family. So all in all, a lovely cafe in a charming village, friendly staff and excellent food - 5/5 !!More

I went yesterday for the first time to Yew Tree cafe in Scalby. Firstly, the place was lovely clean and the staff were super friendly. Following a misunderstanding with our original booking, it was quickly sorted and we had the best Afternoon Tea I have...had for awhile. Fresh, very filling sandwiches, gorgeous scones, quiche and beautiful cakes. I am not sure of the girls name who waited on us but she definitely puts her heart into that place. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.More
