Best Chinese in town. We’ve tried them all and this wins wins wins. You can Takeaway or sit in. Either way it’s delicious and the eat in fixed price is good value for a lot of food served at your own table. If you’re hungry you will love it!

Fantastic food!

We have recently moved to Leighton Buzzard and were recommended Shan Shui by some friends. Wow we were glad we tried it out! The concept of paying a set price and ordering as much as you like (6 dishes at a time) to your table was fantastic. The food was absolutely delicious and of really high quality - tender beef, juicy king prawns! We really enjoyed all the dishes we ordered and even went back for more starters. As we dined on a Monday evening, we each received £10 off with the governments ‘Eat out to help our’ scheme so it was incredible value. However, even at full price we would have been thrilled with the food and lovely service so we will be returning for sure. Shan Shui, you are a new family favourite!

Good but overrated

A decent menu and selection of food. However noticeably more expensive than other restaurants, and only light-to-medium portion sizes (the salt and pepper chips in particular were an embarrassing portion size). A £50 family meal looked rather disappointing compared to other restaurants, and while all the food was perfectly ok, it was nothing special and certainly not worth the money. A bit disappointing considering the mostly impressive reviews on here.

Such poor service

Ordered directly from the restaurant online Saturday night and we were given a pick up time of 55 minutes. My partner went to collect after 55 minutes and was told there would be a further 20 minute wait. He came home and went back after 20 minutes and was again told there would be another 20 minutes to wait. No apologies were made, he did get a free drink but that was really the least they could do. My partner saw several frustrated customers who were in the same position and many cancelled their orders due to such long waiting times. Overall we waited over an hour for our order to be ready. Unfortunately the food proved to be just as much of a disaster as the wait! The chilli beef was inedible and had been overcooked, the chow mien was burnt and the whole meal was cold. We were willing to forgive the wait but the food was such a disappointment. We threw most of it away. I contacted the restaurant the next day to ask for a full refund. I was offered a meal voucher but I explained that we wouldn’t be returning or ordering from them again. The refund was refused. Me and my family have been loyal customers over the years but will not be ordering from them again.

Ummm!!

We visited shan shui after a break of a year due to covid regulations, Was so looking forward to a long awaited meal there. Food was delicious however before we could even ask for a repeat of 2 starters our bill was bought to the table dishes cleared up and before we could even ask we were almost kicked out. Shall not return. Total time of our visit 45 mins!!

To run dine-in service in the pandemic is a struggle to maintain sufficient interactions with limited contacts. Came here with my family and left feeling awful. Food was cold, and the ribs were unbelievably dry, not to mention the fact we‘ were charged £4 for a coke. Paid £10:50 for a duck between 3 and hardly enough duck for a portion each.

Extremely disappointing

We've been using Shan Shui for years and have always enjoyed our takeaways, although unfortunately in recent months the quality and service has changed, and not for the better. We ordered a takeaway online for delivery, but for some reason they are unable to take card payments online anymore and say on their website they will call to take the payment. This didn't happen so I called them instead and although they had received my order they said delivery would still be another hour or so. After one and a half hours I called, on another phone as they didn't pick up when I used the original phone, and I was told it was out for delivery with other orders, and I expressed my concern that it would be cold if it had been out that long. The food eventually turned up two hours after placing the order. The delivery guy just dropped it on the doorstep without hanging around, whereas before it was always handed over. The duck was inedible, dry and unappetising, as was the prawn toast. All the food was cold as I suspected and the size of the portions is small, certainly not worth the prices charged. I rang to complain, several times, but unfortunately they didn't pick up. We won't be using Shan Shui again, and will be looking for another better value Chinese.

Excellent service all round!

Visited friends in Tilsworth on Friday night and decided to have a take away meal with them. Couldn't get through to the local Chinese which is collection only. Instead we called the Shan Shui in Leighton Buzzard and they delivered a delicious meal 45 minutes later. We had the E4 Banquet for 4 which was superb - piping hot, plentiful and really appetising. We didn't know they delivered free to Tilsworth so this was a nice surprise, and it was quick too considering it was Friday night. The delivery guy, Daniel, was great as well!

Will not issue refund

I’ve used Shan Shui regularly and never had a problem, always had good service. Ordered a takeaway at 6.20pm yesterday via their online website after trying to call and no answer. My food still hadn’t arrived at 7.20pm so I called and they told me my order hasn’t even been processed as their system was down. They said my order wouldn’t be here until at least 10pm, even if I collected it. So I asked to cancel and for a refund, he said his boss wasn’t in but I could have a refund if I called back today, I was a little skeptical but understood if their system had truly gone down. I called back today as instructed and was told their boss wasn’t in and they have to take down peoples telephones number. Apparently, he is the only one that can refund and they don’t know when he will be in. So disappointed as I loved Shan Shui but unfortunately I won’t be using them again and I am going to have to contact my bank to receive my money back as they are not helping.

Lovely food, great service

Had a lovely meal as a family last night, taking advantage of the eat out to help out scheme. Food was so fresh and piping hot. Staff were attentive and kind. My children even commented how nice the lady manager was to them as she made them feel special and welcome. Highly recommended.

Disappointed!

Disappointing takeaway! I have been a visitor and user of Shan shui for many many years and it has always been by far the best Chinese locally. Last time I used them the food seemed reheated, dry and old. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ordered tonight a take away for my daughters birthday. £70 spent. So disappointed. Has this been taken over? The food is completely different. The chicken balls have shrunk and were dry. All the emails had little or virtually no sauce. The chicken was hard and dry along with the beef. This to me seemed like food that was days old reheated. So very disappointed. Portions have shrunk, food lacked taste and general appeal and at sometimes £9/£10 a dish and now no discount for collection either… will for one not be ordering from here again. Such a shame. I’d be really interested to know what has changed as it had been so good for so many years . On the hunt for a new Chinese takeaway now!

Shocking !!!

Please do not visit here. We have been here years ago and it was alway nice, however we decided to book a table drive from Bedford with friends for a meal Firstly The menu if very limited, but we decided we would try. The starters came out Luke warm while we were eating our starters they brought out the duck course and we asked if we could finish the starters first . When they brought the food it had been sat under a hot plate and was Luke warm. Then the brought the main course which was stone cold. We told the waiter who said he would go and get the manager . We sat there for 15 minutes while the manager ignored us, so we asked another waiter to be told the manger would come in a minute. Five more minutes we went to him. He said he would Cook us fresh food!!!! 15 more minutes out came the same dish’s not only had it been the same food on the same plates !! Yes you guessed it it was cold again. The manager was absolutely awful has no customer service and said we had to pay for the drinks but

Dinner out tonight with friends. Excellent food, friendly service. A tad chilly in there tonight and could do with some background music but that doesn't deter us from visiting again as you are always guaranteed a great choice of dishes, served with a smile. Great to still be able to eat at one of or favourite restaurants.

We use to love coming here but after our visit this weekend we won't be returning. Starters were literally thrown on a platter, no decorations or dips like there use to be. The chow mein was pale and swimming in oil and we were rushed in and out in 45 mins. It is also so tired and run down, no back ground music so you feel you have to whisper to avoid the table next to you overhearing everything. Not enjoyable

Not a great time

This restaurant was very disappointing and not a patch on our last visit. The problem was sadly the food of which which was basically overcooked and hence tasteless. Maybe it was a bad night but as we ate early surprised that the food looked, was and tasted so tired.
