Went to the pub after a walk with a ramblers group. Food was excellent in every respect. The two of us both had BLT sandwiches which came with two huge slices of fresh granary bread together with loads of french fries & salad, all for the princely sum of £6.50 each......perfect!

Having dined here on a number of occasions when previously living in the area I recently returned here when back visiting relatives locally. Went for lunch during the week and all 4 of us only managed 2 courses (despite 2 of the 4 normally always managing a dessert!) Plenty of choice from the menus which you could mix to suit your requirements, helpful and polite staff and a real “old pub” feel with large fireplace, flagstone floors and low ceilings. Food was plentiful and delicious. So pleased to see that it’s still a great place, will no doubt return on another visit to the area.

We took a risk and popped in without a reservation. It was a busy Sunday afternoon, but they found us a table for two. The Sunday roast (Somerset beef) was a production - I loved that it came on multiple plates and with cauliflower cheese as well. My partner had the pie of the day and it was fabulous. We were so full we could only manage to share the pudding. It was hands-down the best sticky toffee pudding of my life. I haven't stopped thinking about it.

We live locally and have eaten here many times before. We generally have a decent meal and lunchtime deals have always been attractive. This time as we had to eat outside due to Covid restrictions, the menu was restricted but still provided a fair choice. We were handed our food menus and sat down to choose. We asked for a glass of red wine with our meal and after the usual wine selections offered by the waitress we chose a Malbec. All was very pleasant, however a message to the wise ... the price of one glass of wine was £9.20!!! Completely horrified. We were never offered the drinks menu and in hindsight we should of asked!! We are very fortunate to have wonderful village pubs on our doorstep, however some offer so much more than an overgrown courtyard with picnic benches to sit upon. Some businesses are really trying to reinvest and evolve in the current climate, whilst others are obviously charging extortionate prices and not being upfront about it. A local award winning pub and mill has a wine by the glass price list capped at £6.90 and yet there I can gaze upon beautiful surroundings, ponds, and gardens, with quirky seating and be provided with blankets and heaters. I would of felt happier paying £9.20 a glass there!! I definitely shall not return, such a shame!

Thank you for taking the time to review our pub. Iwould like to set a few things straight for the record. When you arrived, you asked for a large glass of red wine and asked for the driest available. I recommended the Malbec and you accepted. There was a large blackboard in front of the bar with all our prices clear to see. Your table was about 4 metres away from this list. Had you of asked, I would have told you the price or indeed given you a wine list. You did not at any time ask for the price. It is therefore extremely unfair and completely inaccurate for you to suggest that we are not being upfront about or pricing. The large glass (250ml) was £9.20. However, there is a very nice House red wine for £6.60. We like to give our customers a choice of upgrading to a nicer wine, but for this of course there will be a higher price point. Our wine prices are the same as they were pre pandemic, so the price is no reflection of Covid 19. They are also in line with our nearest competitors. The mill to which you refer is not a tied house so may well have cheaper options available to them. Although I understand that you are cross you hadnt looked at the wine list before you ordered, I cannot be held accountable for this. It is also no need for you to then attack our garden, which has proved very popular with our customers since we reopened 2 weeks ago. It is a shame that you feel unable to be accountable for your mistake and feel the need to go online to attack our business.

Visited this pub, with short notice after a phone call to confirm table available. Very surprised on arrival, no-one else inside, only about a dozen diners outside. We had expected many more patrons. The bar staff made us welcome, and were pleasant and smiling. My wife chose Roast beef sirloin, and I went for shoulder of lamb, ordering drinks while we waited. Food was delivered after a short wait , and we ordered 2 glasses of red Malbec to accompany the meal, a 125ml and a175ml. My wife commented the beef looked rather pink for her liking, but was tasty and tender. There was however a lot of fat. My lamb shoulder was leaner by comparison, although shoulder can be a fatty cut. The wine arrived and we enjoyed our lunch . After a couple of sips I realised that my wine was a 250ml serving, and my wife's a 175ml, not what we ordered. Having already tasted some from our glasses it would be impossible to return the wine, although my mistake was not mentioning it the instant I spotted the mistake. The vegetables were properly cooked, not soft, more al dente, except the Cauliflower cheese which was too wet . No room for dessert so we had coffees, hot and good coffee. When it came to the bill, I pointed out the error of the wrong wine servings, and the young lady went away to confer. After a few minutes the chef/proprietor came to the table and asked rather tersely 'Is there a problem ?' So I outlined what had happened. He then wanted to escalate the matter, and insisted the wine would not be charged at all. After trying to explain I was happy to pay for the wine ordered, but not the overcharge for larger servings. This did not seem to mollify him, the situation began to get heated and a bit like Fawlty Towers. The Landlady then appeared, with a small child in tow, and castigated me for raising my voice in front of her children ??? She was nowhere to be seen beforehand, so why get involved ? The Chef/proprietor then started to tell me to leave and the meal would not be charged at all. I then commented about the excess fat on the beef , and that didn't help either. Eventually having stood my ground I paid the bill, with a reduction for the overcharged wine, and then added a tip for the bar staff. I have to say the food did not resemble the photos in the gallery, which I suggest have been taken by professionals, and maybe edited or tidied up somewhat. We shall not be returning.

I last visited in 2017 and was rather scathing about the food and service, having been a big fan of the previous management. Today I revisited with friends at lunchtime and am happy to take it all back. The food was excellent, service super and we feel like we've got our old local back. Hurrah and thanks to all at the Royal Oak. Well done. Highly recommended.

We returned to this pub because the post-COVID menu had a little more variety than most. Both of us chose the king prawn linguini dish. The dish itself was very flavoursome (hence a generous 3 stars) but only contained 6 king prawns. Now, I understand that it's an expensive ingredient but we did think 6 was rather too few for the 'headline' ingredient in a dish costing £13.50. We complained gently to our waitress (who was very good) and, after a short while, another woman came to our table. We repeated our gentle complaint. We couldn't believe what happened next, she told us very pointedly and condescendingly that 6 was the standard amount put in the dish. Zero for Customer Service; there was no appreciation of our point, certainly no apology and not even one conciliatory remark. We had, in fact, accepted the 'short measure' but, having complained, we are very cross at the high-handed way we, the Customers after all, were treated.

Fab takeaway to cheer us up during lockdown. Delicious new garden menu. The chef could not have been more accommodating or sympathetic to my husbands medical dietary requirements. Thank you! Very fresh tasting Thai salad and wonderfully comforting risotto so we could pretend we were in Italy! The kids love the fish, chips & peas. We are so lucky to have you in the village.

We are extremely happy that you enjoyed your take away from us last week. Its been a tough couple of months during the lock down and without the support from you and others like you from this and the surrounding villages it would have been even harder. We thank you very much for using us, and we very much look forward to serving you again in the pub.xx

Had dinner here on Saturday night. Staff were very attentive and service was very speedy. The Chef went out of his way to provide multiple vegan options for the one vegan in our party, which were of a high standard (risotto and Thai salad). Meat-eaters thoroughly enjoyed their food too. Would definitely visit again, thanks!

Another absolutely amazing meal last night thank you. We enjoyed every minute of our evening and it was lovely to be back after the 2nd lock down. Fantastic service with a smile as always and the food was awesome. My partner likes his Steak rare and can be fussy but he is never disappointed at The Royal Oak, cooked to perfection. Thank you x

Stopped off for lunch on way back from the coast. We had been before when the new managers had just taken over and pleased as we were then , we were ecstatic on this occasion! Wonderful welcome from the landlady and staff in general. Good choice of beer and outstanding lunch - all our family waxed lyrical but the squid and pie of the day come particularly recommended and those desserts - ohhh my.. If you do anything this summer - call in :) Just stunning in every way !!!

We can’t rate the Royal Oak highly enough. Relaxed atmosphere, beautiful garden and family friendly. Top quality ingredients, thoughtfully presented dishes and great service, all at a very reasonable price. The chicken kebab is particularly recommended, as is the hoisin goose from the specials menu. If you are staying in this beautiful part of the country, make the Royal Oak your first choice for eating out - you won’t be disappointed!

Ian and Bex used to run a pub near us in Northants and we soon became friends as they provide excellent food and drink but also are really community minded. They're no different in Somerset and it was a proper joy to see them again. Well kept beer, of course and lovely old favourites on the menu, chicken & chorizo risotto and steak and ale pie, but also brilliantly innovative dishes such as hoi sin belly pork with sesame seeds. If you don't go today, go tomorrow!

We stayed in the village for a few days and had 3 of our evening meals here. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and very professional. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was cooked to order and everything that we had was very tasted and well presented. We really enjoyed the meals and if we lived in the area this would certainly be our local. Highly recommend.

Came to the Royal Oak with my partner for his birthday. It was way above expectations, so so cozy. Amazing friendly service and the food was to die for. We enjoyed the crab linguine and fillet stake- amazing value for money, good portion sizes and really really nice. You can tell that the owners of this business really care about everything from service to food to setting. Would recommend to anyone
