Johan the owner had a wonderful special opening for the group of 24 people visiting the battlefields of the australiens specifically and the great cemetery of Tyne cot The welcome was terrific with a homemade soup warm because of the cold He had also made a wonderful plate with big ham and cheese toasts and salade crudités He was explaining... Stopped by for evening dinner - full of locals so a great atmosphere, the spaghetti was good and there's a bar too. There's parking out the back. It's Johan that makes this place though - particularly the little WW1 museum that he has put his soul into upstairs - all in all a special find!

Had dinner here twice - the spaghetti bolognese is amazing and the pancakes are great too! Johan is very friendly and accommodating. The outdoor area is so nice to sit in, and they keep birds which were interesting to watch :) Johan gave us a mini-tour of the war museum upstairs - it was quite an incredible collection, all well... The owner Johan ( John ) is passionate on the WW1 Polygone Wood history. He was part of the Digger Association and as a professional carpenter has made a lot of detailed drawings of WW1 dugouts, shelters and bunkers. He was also involved in recovering the "Zonnebeke five" remains of Australian troopers and the identification of 3 of them. He... More

Lovely cafe bar with a great atmosphere, and loads of items relating to WW1 especially the Austrailians, we called in for a light lunch off their menu, specialist Belgium beer. Johan, the proprietor, is friendly and a wealth of knowledge on WW1 battles and archeology, has been on Time Team carrying out digs for tv. Well worth a visit.

Johan made me feel very welcome at his café. The food was very tastey and came with some fresh crunchy salad. This café also has so much history attached to it due to Johan and his support/respect he has for all who have fallen and fought in WW1. He shares what he has done for the Australian Diggers and also... More

We visited Johan at the Anzac Rest cafe in August this year. Johan and his wife Natalia looked after us like family. Great beers, hearty food and all reasonably priced. we travelled here because we'd heard about Johan and this special place that honours our fallen diggers in the area. Johan is someone that all Aussies should hold dear. His... More
