Interesting menu and plenty of choice. On the night we were there the soup of the day was Polish soup, a chilled soup made with blackcurrants. It was fabulous. Only problem was it was quite a large serve so made it difficult to finish the equally large main course serve of risotto. Service was fine and fairly speedy. A good... More

I was surprised how lovely the food was at the Last Light Cafe considering what a sleepy town Tuatapere appeared to be. We visited for dinner & lunch & all meals were excellent- the coffee was great too. We also found the service to be very good & the staff very accommodating (they were very happy to do eggs Benedict... More

Being English I'm used to bangers and mash, it is what it is, a nice meal but hardly fine dining. The Last Light's version was absolutely fantastic, the best I've ever had. House made venison sausages, with pumpkin/kumara/potato mash with kale. The gravy was outstanding too. Quite a modest looking place too so very surprised

This experience was the highlight of our day. Arrived early, the owner had just woken up but graciously let us in and made us delicious coffee and the most amazing eggs benedict I have ever had. Adorable cat(s), great ambiance, and a very interesting owner - definitely talk to him if you get a chance. Everything home-grown (eggs home-laid) and... More

We stayed on this campsite before starting the humpridge track, and got into the restaurant just before they were about to close. Luckily they kindly provided us with a superb dinner. Even my vegan partner found something on the menu (not very common in Southland!) prices were fine given the quality of the food. We also had breakfast there and... More

This is an amazing place and worth targeting for a big stay! A lot of people visit because they have done the arduous Hump Ridge Track - a hiking track. But to visit just to see whats here is worth it. The owner, Craig has done wonders with landscaping, sowing wide lawns, creating attractive niches for caravans or motorhomes to... More

We ate dinner here and were so impressed we came back for breakfast. Sausages were excellent as was the other food. Great selection of beer and a reasonable array of wines. A lot of the food was grown in their garden. The service was very friendly and fast. I would go a long way for food this honest and tasty.

Who would have expected such a nice place in such a small rural service town. This place has hard to find craft beers and delicious food. It's not cheep, but not overpriced and there is plenty to keep you entertained.
