Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My family and I regularly visit The Six Bells at Cliffe. My kids absolutely love the bouncy castle in the pub's beer garden. We regularly have lunch at The Six Bells too, and the food is always excellent - wholesome, plentiful, traditional pub fayre. The...food is very reasonably priced, with generous portion sizes. We would 100% recommend The Six Bells. Family friendly too!More

I visited The Six Bells with my husband, for lunch, after walking part of the Saxon Shore Way. We received a warm, friendly welcome on arrival. The pub has seating in the bar area, where food can be eaten and there is also an informal...restaurant section. All very clean, warm and nicely decorated. The menu was varied and reasonably priced. We both had the burgers and they were excellent. Service was very good. We really liked the atmosphere and the pub is well supported by the locals. We will definitely return. We did not stay in the pub so can only comment on the food.More

We were a party of 8 and the service was good as was the food. My only concern when the food was served is that some of the meals were served on a flat wooden platter. As my partner is totally blind I was wondering...how we would keep her food on its platter. However, when her food (and mine) was served it was on a conventional plate so that problem was avoided.More

Called in here after a long walk on the Hoo peninsula. It’s a pleasant pub and good to see it open again after lockdown. We only wanted a light lunch so chose two items: bread, olives and humus and whitebait which came with a salad...garnish and tartar sauce. Both were generous in size and well cooked and served. The Shepherd Neam beer was excellent, but sadly, the only cider available was that awful Bulmers stuff made from concentrated apple juice, sugar and alcohol. I would have expected a Shepherd Neam pub to be able to source Aspall’s cider or other good quality. Service was good and the meals ordered by other customers looked attractive.More

Having been to this pub today for a family meal out on a Sunday I was personally very disappointed not only by the limited menu but by the quality of the food. I had the roast chicken dinner which was a very small breast piece...of chicken , a portion of burnt dried out roast potatoes and what looked like shop brought Yorkshire puddings which again were very dry. And served up what I think was a beef gravy ??? Very disappointed I’m afraid and will not go back again. Sorry but it’s just a personal review of only the food.More

We stayed here in December, check in was easy, the room was pleasant enough. We went out for the afternoon and came back to enjoy the pub early evening. The boss was away and whilst i completely understand a little bit of "while the cat's...away..." the evening was horrendous. We decided, after a fight in the pub area, to call it a night and retreated to our room, i had forgotten to ask what time breakfast was, so went back downstairs and had to interrupt the bar staff who were more interested in their evening than talk to me. We decided we would talk to somebody at breakfast the following morning but the person serving breakfast was run off her feet and we were in a rush so I emailed that evening on arriving home. I received a call almost straight away and was promised to be contacted by the owner of the pub when he arrived back from his holiday around the 18th December. I genuinely believed this as the person making the call was as horrified as us at the events the night before. The call never arrived but i suspected Christmas would be their busy time so i waited until January and sent another email, this time it was completely ignored, hence this review. I try to be fair and have been very patient before leaving this review but the lack of communication has been terrible. I would not recommend this pub/hotel to anybody.More

If I could give this a zero I would. Staff very rude. Food cold, over cooked, tasteless, of very poor quality and cheap. Pub is very clicky. Toilet facilities filthy dirty. So disappointing. Myself and friends would not recommend.

I have visited this pub many times before and always found it warm and welcoming. Yesterday was no exception. My family and I met for an early dinner before Xmas and we’re not disappointed. I had the lamb shank and the rest of my family...the beef roast… beautiful! The roasties were so crispy and veg well cooked. Special mention to Kayleigh the chef who came out several times to speak to us and made us feel so welcome! Thank you so much, we will be back!More

Took my partner and my mother for Sunday dinner, The chicken was nice and moist, Roast potatoes were perfect, nice and crispy and the Yorkshire puddings again perfect. There was plenty of food on the plate, even for the big eaters (me) however not over...flowing and looking like a challenge. it was all served hot and freshly cooked. The gravy was full of flavour and complimented the meal perfectly. The staff were really polite, friendly and extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this pub, warm and friendly atmosphere, with smiling helpful staff and excellent food....what else do you want. Well done and thank you.More

Booked the Six Bells for an overnight stay whilst attending a wedding reception at Cooling Castle. Great welcome on arrival. Shown to our room which was clean and had all we needed (although some coat hangers would be good). Used the service of transfers to...and from the wedding reception - which works really well. Enjoyed a delicious (and much needed) full English breakfast the next day cooked by Kayleigh. Thanks for a great stay.More

We booked a 2 night stay, as my brother was getting married at Cooling Castle (which changed to The Vines in Rochester) but we decided to keep our booking and get a taxi to the wedding. We had 3 rooms booked at the Six Bells....We were greeted by Kayleigh in the bar, who is absolutely fantastic, made us feel very welcome and she’s a good laugh too! After a couple of drinks, Kayleigh showed us to to our rooms, all were a good size, extremely clean with their own bathrooms. We decided to have dinner at the pub and I have to say the food was very good (the freshly made pizza was delicious!) Kayleigh had gone home around 5/6pm and the bar was manned by 3 young staff, who were all very pleasant. After a 5 hour drive I was struggling to keep my eyes open and wanted an early night (10pm) and had to be up early the next day for the wedding, sadly this was not going to happen, my room was above the bar area with the windows overlooking the outside tables at the front. Very loud music was playing until around midnight. Doors slamming etc. This is not a quiet country pub. I finally got to sleep after 1am, after everyone had dispersed. Breakfast was good. Kayleigh was back on and again fab service. She’s wonderful. As were the other staff who were cleaning the pub very thoroughly. Room facilities- other than a towel rail, it had everything I needed. Rooms are very clean. Beds were comfy. Couldn’t complain at all. It was just the late night music / noise on Friday that ruined my stay a little bit. Would I stay there again ? Yes I would. Kayleigh is an asset to the pub / B&B, the rooms are spotless, the food is good and it has everything you’d need for a night or two. Maybe provide earplugs 😆More
