Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For many years this has been a favourite usually too sample the extensive mussel menu or various other fish and meat dishes. Sadly nowadays one of us can no longer eat seafood but this didn’t stop us having a fabulous Sunday lunch at the Anchor....Even if we had not chosen the excellent Sunday roasts there were plenty of alternatives available. We went for a beef roast and a turkey roast respectively with a few extras. The portions were generous with a plentiful amount of delicious gravy. We were seated with our dog in a cosy area warm and comfortable on an otherwise damp grey day . The atmosphere was as always friendly and attentive. Both pubs in Cockwood are lovely places to be individual and untainted by the corporate curse! Long may it last. Thankyou Anchor team for a SUPER Sunday.More

We had battered haddock, chips and mushy peas, both meals excellent. Great staff, but be aware of the self confessed grumpy barman.😂

After many years away from Devon we decided to go to the Anchor as my memories of going this pub with my family were always excellent. Well I have to say what a wonderful place it is. The ambience is magical and the interior is...more traditional of a seaside pub than any other I've seen. Despite the fact that the place was absolutely packed, the services was prompt and thoughtful The food was fantastic, the king prawn seafood mornay was full of lovely large prawns and the sauce and contents brilliant.More

Very busy pub serving a very good seafood menu. Although very busy, and felt a bit cramped, service was very good. Good thoroughly enjoyable. Would certainly suggest book in advance.

Table was booked for 8pm, told there was a wait on food, which was no problem so placed our order of two surf and turfs and two fish mornay. Then to be told no prawns left and no cheese sauce left… Steak was tiny for...£35, fish pie was runny and staff were reluctant to help… overall experience was awful and very disappointing and only the sauce knocked off the bill. Birthday night ruined avoid if you want an enjoyable meal!!More

Prices quite expensive for what you actually get, however biggest issue is, the pub has a lovely undercover outdoor area with fabulous views, but they allow smoking under the canopy which is disgusting and the smell lingers which is awful when having a meal. Seems...a shame when they have other outdoor seating which isn’t covered so no lingering cigarette smoke.More

We are staying locally, so wanted to try this pub as the reviews are very good. I had the mixed fish dish, clams, prawns, mussels in sauce. The food was excellent, one of the best fish dishes I've had. Our friends enjoyed there food and said it...was excellent. The staff were very helpful and friendly also. Service on the bar can be slow as there was only one bar person.More

Delicious food, great menu choice! Absolutely beautiful meal. Road closures were in force, but the manger called us to give us the heads up which was a lovely thing to do. Beautiful seafood! Generous portions. Very glad to have visited.

Quite possibly one of the nicest places I’ve been. Food was spot on, service great. Location is beautiful especially at sunset, overlooking a small harbour.

We had a lovely family meal - it was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday evening, but the food was delicious. We had the gurnard, scallops, seafood mornay and scampi and it was very tasty and a good portion size. Staff were friendly and very efficient,...and the interior in the old village hall end is wonderfully quirky with ship memorabilia and collectibles. We enjoyed sitting in a booth and looking at an old diver’s helmet! Will be back again soon!More
