About
Hidden away down a little lane on the edge of Bentworth Village in Hampshire, The Sun Inn is a very pretty, flower-adorned and unspoilt rural free-house dating back to the 16th century. Brick and board floors are laid with a rustic mix of scrubbed pine tables, benches and settles and the original beams are hung with sparkling horse brasses. Walls are adorned with plates and prints depicting the history of the village of Bentworth and it is surely one of the most atmospheric and authentic pubs to be found in Hampshire.

What a delightful find! We were unable to get in to the Yew Tree and so needed an alternative, and found this wonderful little pub. Dog friendly, and the team here are fantastic - very friendly and accommodating, and made us feel like regulars from...the get go. We tucked in to a cosy table right by the fire, which was perfect for a cold day - the food was also very good - the steak pie was one of the best I have ever had. I'm almost loathe to sing this pub's praises in fear of word getting out how marvellous it is :)More

Stopped off by chance for lunch, staff very friendly and food was good, old looking place with character nice log fire . Sadly only found out the next day they had added 10% service charge to the bill and don't tell you , it is...written at the bottom of the bill but who reads all the text at the bottom . Sadly that's why you got 2 stars ,sneaky way to get more money and has outs off going there again.More

Went for dinner with my other half which is a special night as we don’t get to go out very often. To say disappointing is an understatement! Trying to have a romantic dinner in a beautiful pub whilst they are trying to put the Christmas...decorations up around you and other customers. Some of the others that were just there to drink were asked to duck or step out of the way. The food was disappointing, my partners burger was cold and bland, my pie was dry and having seen the mash and veg reheated in the microwave was disappointing. We didn’t complain at the time as the only diners and atmosphere being a bit flat we just wanted to leave. Over priced for what it was.More

Visited the pub many years ago and decided to revisit. We were not disappointed, the food was amazing. We asked for recommendations from the waiting staff and everything was spot on. Going out on a limb and said think it was the best pie I've...ever had. Steak and mushroom with red wine jus!. It was filled to the brim with the most tender steak and was full of flavour. My husband had steak and it was perfect. We will definitely be going back.More

Stopped by on Monday evening en route from Bournemouth to London as not much else was open. A lovely, homely pub oozing with character and cozy right down to the bathrooms! Food was delicious and nicely presented and we were pleasantly surprised by the Hungarian...additions to the menu. Staff/proprietors were also lovely and incredibly attentive and welcoming. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family and coming back next time I'm in the area.More

This was a sensational lunch. Great wine list that offers a Good, Better and Best approach allowing you to pick from something reasonable to really special. Food superb and the service from Megan and Patrick attentive and efficient. Highly recommended and I think they’re open...on Monday evenings too - bonus!More

We had a really lovely time at this pub on Saturday night. We were celebrating a joint birthday and we found the staff so friendly, helpful and attentive. The Manager is excellent but so are his assistants and the food is really lovely with a...decent selection on the menu.More

A cute, cozy gem of a pub but what has happened to the menu? Please bring back the simple old pub classics with less twists! A few simple tweaks to the menu offering would go along way.

We had a recommendation from our neighbor who had said it was their favorite pub . There were five of us for lunch , to which we all had different meals . We found the food excellent, Patrick and Adina were the hosts and couldn't...be more friendly and polite . Lovely atmosphere and the toilets were spotless .. The bill had a discretionary 10% which was well deserved and actually nice to see added to the bill .. all round I describe our experience as lovely 😊.. very well done indeedMore

This has been a favourite go-to pub for years, and has always proved reliable. I have to say that the food was good on our recent visit, if somewhat on the pricey side, and we have no complaints with the five meals served. The beer...selection isn't what it used to be but what is on offer, whilst not exciting, is ok. This said, we were horrified and astounded when presented with our bill to hear the phrase "A service charge has been added" What for? Why? There was no prior notice of any such fee, nothing written on the menus, no mention of any further charges at any time from any of the friendly staff, and neither was there any mention anywhere on the bill of it being optional. That's completely unreasonable by any standard. This was pointed out, and the charge removed in a friendly manner, but it simply shouldn't be there. If the Sun needs more income from it's food offering, it should increase it's (already pricey) charges openly and fairly. A serice charge in an English pub? Unfriendly, unreasonable and unnecessary, and a sad blemish on what used to be a really good pub.More

We needed a lunch stop on the way to a clay pigeon shoot, a present for our sons 17th birthday. The Sun Inn is down a lovely country lane, and good parking when we arrived. As soon as you walked in it felt so homely,...a couple of families with dogs, the smell of a real open fire and the atmosphere of a welcoming a friendly pub we were shown our table and perused the menu. I had already checked the options on the sample menu on their website and luckily, the Schnitzel was still on the menu, one of my favourites and I have recently had one in Germany in a Beer Garden so it was still on my mind. We ordered our food and were extremely pleased with what was provided. I had a terrine tot start with, served with Piccalilli, warm bread a delicious well dressed salad leaves. The boss had a rather delightful marinated Melon with Olives, Feta Cheese and junior went for WhiteBait which were apparently ‘yummy’. Mains were 2 x - Schnitzel and a steak with a side order of chunky chips. All the food was delicious, I asked for some Cranberry Sauce to go with the Schnitzel, it’s a great accompaniment when you cannot get Lingonberries! Luckily, they had some. Unfortunately our son was not feeling too good and we had to get to our next destination but the food was excellent, service was patient and very welcoming, the atmosphere was what a country pub should be, and often missed in the world of impatience, rushing, high-tech and no time to wait, just absolutely lovely. Give the Sun Inn you go, don’t rush things and relax, you will be glad you did.More

Wow. A happy return to an old favourite. Amazing food with fantastic hospitality. The pub is a special place anyway but last night it got it 100% right. I do hope its not too long before we can go back.
