Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent créole cuisine in a family-run restaurant. The individually and lovingly designed restaurant with a beautiful garden can be especially characterized by its excellent food, its family atmosphere and the courteous service. We (Gaby & Peter) can therefore report on a great lunch in a...special ambience, an experience that we would not want to miss and would recommend to every tourist in Mauritius.More

A beautiful garden setting and a fantastic range of authentic dishes. A tasty experience of real creole food. Hostess is a delight and explains everything as you go. We had a huge range of dishes from a big menu. Definitely worth the experience.

Incredible and authentic experience! We came with friends to enjoy a traditional lunch. The restaurant was full (reservation needed) and had an amazing ambiance. Next to us were tourists, locals but as well business people. We tried the Degustation menu which assembled all traditional dishes....Every single dish was excellent. The service was very friendly and joyful. I would recommend this place for an authentic restaurant and amazing food in a natural and beautiful place.More

A delightful discovery of this hidden gem which we were told has been operating for 25 years. Delicious home cooked Mauritian menu, lovingly prepared daily by Maman with her daughter Marie Christine running the show with a dedicated team. The food was authentic and delicious,...whilst the welcome and service was typically Mauritian hospitality at its best. I will definitely be recommending Escale Créole and will be back to enjoy another culinary experience. Be sure to book well in advance as they are open on,y for lunch from Monday to Friday, and one Saturday per month. Beautiful garden setting.More

Not in the middle of the big tourist areas, or in fact the middle of anywhere, but certainly worth the effort to get there. Although, do make sure you book to avoid disappointment (via WhatsApp works fine), as it quite rightly gets full in advance...(almost a week for us). The setting is lovely, in buildings connected to the owners own house and gardens. If this sounds too small or not professional you're wrong, it is perfect in every way. The gardens are picturesque, the dining areas all really well decorated and arranged. The menu is very limited, which is not a criticism, giving you a choice probably half a dozen items. You get a choice of one item, two items or a taster menu of them all, which we went for. Portion size is spot on and includes a free appetiser and dessert (with Rum shot 🥃👍🏻) and all of the dishes tasted great and we're well presented. The staff and especially the owner are all so friendly it makes the experience even better. It started to rain when we were there and a couple on another outside table were getting slightly wet despite their canopy, the staff came running with umbrellas clearing another completely covered table and sorted them within seconds. Thank you for a lovely lunch, if we had time we'd be back. PS The dog was lovely 😀🐕 Highly recommended!!More

We wanted to try an authentic creole menu and came across this restaurant. It was absolutely beautiful run by a mother a daughter with a small team of staff. The setting is open planned spilling out into the garden and you have a choice of...three menus depending on how hungry you are. The food is prepared and cooked with love and enthusiasm by the mother and served in individual pots at the table. It was very original food which we have not experienced before and was lovely. The daughter is the host and very charismatic and passionate about the history of the restaurant and Mauritius. We love the food and the atmosphere so much we booked to return!More

We visited the restaurant for lunch to celebrate my birthday. Although tucked away, the restaurant is well sign posted and is set in a beautiful tropical garden. The menus are of a set formula with a selection of delicious Creole nibbles to start with, and...then a choice of one, two or four traditional dishes, all beautifully presented in mini lidded pots and served with a selection of local vegetable dishes, rice and chutneys. Fruit juices, beer and soft drinks are available and wine can be ordered by the carafe, which we liked. Whilst the food is delicious, and the service is exemplary, the restaurant is defined by its beautiful setting and decorations and the presence of the owners who explain the food, how to eat it and give you background on the Mauritian way of life. We really enjoyed it!More
