Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was solo traveling and decided to check out Jiufen Old Town and the famous A Mei Tea House (I heard it's actually not the inspiration for Spirited Away but regardless...). I came here on a rainy day early in the morning (around (9:30am) to...avoid the crowds. I was glad I did because the teahouse was practically empty and I could have my choice seat on the veranda looking out to the foggy water and mountainside. The owner was very friendly and the lady who served me my tea was a bit abrupt but attentive - she took the time to show me how to enjoy my tea in the traditional way. That was very nice I thought. The famous photo of the tea house is actually taken from across the way at the Skyline tea house. But the view of the water is better, I think, from A Mei. I don't know if I would have enjoyed the tranquility if I hadn't come early. From what I read, it gets crazy busy later in the afternoon. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it. Of course, it's not as beautiful in person (like all things), and the whole town is a bit.... OLD. So don't expect anything new when you're there. Things, including this shop, is old. So expect all things that come with old establishments.More

commercially driven. if single guest they are rather impatient as you may occupied a table with only a single meal. The Watiress (a little hunch) seem unwelcoming and was eager for me to leave and The 三杯鸡 meal that I ordered was not fully cooked....I was too disappointed to stay on for the tea. If you come to this place for the view I suggest you look around, as there are other tea house nearby with breath taking view and better service.More

Rumors has it that this tea house is used as set idea for the 2001宫崎骏cartoon Spirited Away千与千寻。 However, a rumor is always a rumor. The tourist do not seem to care.

To say that I enjoyed every bit of my time at A-mei Tea House is an inderstatement. I enjoyed every second. We booked our reservation via Klook, so as to make sure that we didnt have to wait in line anymore. We immediately ent in...the teahouse and was escorted to our table. We were served generous amounts of High Mountain Oolong Tea together with a wide spread of sweets and Taiwanese delicacies and dried fruit. It was a perfect pairing on a cold and windy night. I would bring my family here again soon.More

This place is disappointing because you feel like to be just a "number": the fastest you sit down, fastest you order, fastest you eat, fastest you leave, the happier they are... Tea is alright, side cookies are good, but this fastfood overcrowded atmosphere wasn't for...me.More

I read about this tea house in many blogs about Taiwan and was looking forward to it! But it was such a disappointment: it was the equivalent of “fast food” for a tea house. Come in quickly, order, drink and go... there were so many...people ! Also as many have mentioned before, it’s called a tea house but they only serve you a fixed menu of one sort of green tea (which one ? Mystery!) with a couple of sweet snacks for 300T$ per person. This is the only thing you can have ! Just days before, I visited a tea house in Taipei (Wistaria House) and for the same price we got a very nice and customized service and drank two different teas from Taiwan mountains from a menu featuring over 40 different teas with full description of origin and characteristics. I naively thought I would get the same service at A Mei. Note: this tea house has several listings on TripAdvisor so check them out as well.More

Were there mainly for the view and a great place to take pictures. Just go for their cheapest package that comprises of tea & 4 types of snacks. The portion is little so don't expect too much. Just a place to rest your legs and...to relax a bit with the great view. Opt for the outdoor sitting area.More

Come in the morning before the crowds of the afternoon. It's magical to quietly take in the mountains and mist, and see how the light changes as the day goes on.

yes, it is slightly pricey but its the experience, the fame from spirited away. it has a nice view and iconic location / building. it is NT$300 per pax and just some snacks to go with tea. Very peaceful and lovely experience! it was a...rather rainy night which clear for the night view. Truly enjoyed and glad to have visited. Something to treat self!More

A-Mei is an overrated tea house. It's garnered its popularity based on the Spirited Away movie, but the tea/drink offerings here aren't anything special. The goal of visiting this tea house should be "I've been to the famous tea house" and maybe getting a picture...of the scenery.More

We came in because of the hype over mizayaki’s work in this area. The restaurant offers NT300/pax tea set with a few traditional cakes. Alternatively you may choose other types of tea and drink which costs more and does not come with the cakes. I...thought it tasted normal and not worth NT300. The interior of the restaurant looks nice and you can also go out to the patio to take photos as well. The staff is very helpful and friendly.More

Great view with very accommodating crew with picture taking expertise. The tea set was NT$300 per person. Kindly take note that the items look way larger in photos than in the actual serving.
