Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here with family for a night to celebrate my dads 83rd birthday. Had a fantastic time, rooms excellent and food was delicious. We had evening meal and breakfast and all enjoyed, being next to the open fire was an added bonus. Staff were all...friendly, efficient and attentive. The owner made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay, you can definitely tell she puts her heart and sole into the place, which is stunning. Beds are comfortable and we all had a great nights sleep. We are planning to return for another stay just as a little treat. Price wise- exceptional value for money. Would recommend to anyone.More

We recently had our wedding night party at Knitsley Mill and we were not disappointed. Kim was an exceptional wedding planner ensuring everything was perfect and special, she spent months helping us plan our perfect night and during the event all of the staff were...helpful, friendly and professional. All of our guests commented on the presentation of the venue and the outstanding quality of the food. Myself, husband and daughter stayed in their accommodation overnight, the rooms were beautiful and held a rustic theme. We were greeted by Pauline for our breakfast and she was a brilliant host and I must admit it was the best breakfast we have ever had. Many thanks to Kim, Pauline and staff for a wonderful and memorable party.More

First the positives. It is in a lovely, quiet, beautiful location. Who I presume were the owners are really friendly and approachable. The breakfast was cooked to order at a pre agreed time, so hot and fresh. The bed was comfortable. The menu is varied...and extensive. The downside is that this place is incredibly dated, and really needs some investment. This unfortunately comes with owning such an old property. Soundproofing is poor and the floorboards are creaky. The shower grouting and sealant is stained/mouldy and there are so many nooks and crannies that there are cobwebs and dust. The roof is clearly very old, and this was evident by a small leak into my room during some heavy rain. There is so much potential if some money is pumped into it but unfortunately not worth the price compared to other places in the area.More

We visited the Old Mill as part of an Anniversary treat to us both. On arrival we were very impressed by the location, the bar and accommodation. As we were staying on a Wowcher 2 night voucher we were aware that our first night included...dinner and a Continental breakfast. So it was no surprise when the lady (the owner) informed me that the second night (as it was a Friday) equired an additional charge of £20. Which I paid cash. After checking into our room, which was very charming and included a very old style cooking grate and a lovely beamed ceiling. However the shower room was very small and, if any visitor is over size 12, they will find it very difficult to use the shower. Off we went for a pre-dinner drink which was served by a lovely young man who also took our order for dinner. The meal, which was also served by the barman was very nice and we returned to our room and bed. Sometime around 6am my partner told that there was something, inside the bed clothes at the bottom of the bed. After a quick fumble she found a pair of ladies knickers, which clearly meant that the bed had been changed after the previous occupants!! On our way to breakfast my partner, discreetly informed the 'owner ' what she had found. The owners initial response almost floored us. She said "Oh, let me have them and I will put them in the bin" that was it. We had breakfast and left for a day out. On our return we, again, went into the bar for a pre-dinner drink and were both relieved when the owner came and sat with us to say that she had dismissed a temporary member of staff for nor changing the bed. No real apology and certainly no suggestion that the drink we had would be on the house!!! We then proceeded to dinner and were served by a delightful young lady, who could not have been 16 years old. After a very prompt starter we then waited over 40 minutes for our main course. The delay was due to the young lady having to serve meals in both the dining room and the main bar as well as drinks orders in the dining room. While this young lady was running about the 3 'Chefs', aided by at least 2 youngsters, were content to shout 'Service' when they put a meal on the servery. At least one of the Diners helped himself to his own meal while the young lady was waiting to be served at the bar. Finally, the following morning I paid the bill and the owners only comment was " I hoped that you had a nice stay, apart from the bed incident " Beyond belief.More

The breakfasts were generous and tasty. The evening meal was spectacular. We would...recommend The Old Mill to anyone. Came across this lovely quaint place as we drove around the country lanes and decided to call in for lunch. So glad we did. We were attended to by the very capable and efficient Kim and Freya. Well done ladies for looking after us. The...food we ordered was delicious and very filling, not leaving any room for dessert, which was disappointing - as our favourite rhubarb crumble was on the menu. The menu offers many meals to choose from and is very fairly priced. We most certainly will be returning when next in the area to sample more from their menu. A very pleasant place indeed, friendly staff and delicious meals – what more could you ask for? Give it a try – I don’t think you will be disappointed.More
