Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Oh how I wish I had taken seriously the reviews that said the food was horrible. it was HORRIBLE. Avoid this. People say tourist trap and I was thinking this place has a thousand reviews and overall is decently rated - wow was that wrong....Go anywhere else to have a better experience with food that won't make you sick. The tuna tartare was brown. BROWN. Disgusting.More

Good for tourist, nice environment. Food is good enough, but you mainly go there for the friendly and noce looking environment

Overcrowded, really lacking service. You might have to wait 10-15 minutes for a waitress to come The food was mediocre, some dishes were served cold (see above). Nice to visit one time (I mean Kill Bill), but definitely doesn’t live up to expectations

Had no other place that was open on New Year’s Day so went there with whole family. Severs were all non-Japanese and customers were all tourists with no place to go. The food was way over priced and horrible. It is not acceptable. Don’t want...people to think Japanese food is this bad.More

We showed up just when the restaurant opened, without a reservation. Warmly greeted, but then asked if we could wait 90 minutes - this was asked as the restaurant was about 20% full. I tried to politely respond 'of course not' (sorry, I was a...bit irked) - and was then given a table for my family. After that, the lunch was fine - just nothing special. We didn't walk around the restaurant for the Kill Bill experience because it seemed so small and we kept bumping into people - yes, while 20% fill. The food was good quality - traditional range of Japanese noodles and the like. I truly tried to give it a fair chance but it was ultimately a let down. To be fair, if it wasn't for the Kill Bill hype, I think I would have found it to be a unique find - but as it is, the hype didn't help, coupled by fairly impersonal wait staff. I've got this out of my system and won't return. But hey, yes, it's worth a one-time visit.More

We visited Gonpachi Nishiazabu for a lunch during our visit in Tokyo. We did see few Youtube video's and decided to give it a try. After all, we've been to Gonpachi in LA before they closed down, and I recalled their food and atmosphere were...good. We made a reservation in US, but it was not too crowded being a weekday lunch. I wish we went at night as most of the customers were eating the set lunch alone. Food was acceptable and service was good. We did read several reviews (which are mixed), and did not have a huge expectation. But, I wish we went at night when it would've been little more lively.More

I've lived in Tokyo around 10 years and Gonpachi used to be a great spot to take people from out of town. But now it is a tourist trap -- be warned! Specifically: -The atmosphere is not very Japanese anymore; they blast western pop over...the speakers. Normal Japanese izakaya has no music or perhaps quiet Japanese traditional music. Almost all the customers are foreign tourists. -Service is unfortunately now poor compared to a typical Japanese place. Most servers non-Japanese (which is okay) but service is poor. -Food is very salty -- this is not Japanese traditional taste but made salty for foreign tourists tastes -The Food is overpriced compared to similar places I will not be going back unless they make major improvements and going back to the way it used to be. There are so many better and more 'authentic' izakayas in the area. I'd recommend probably most any of those over here.More

We're not sure why there are so many negative reviews as we really enjoyed our lunch here. Sure, it won't be the most gourmet meal of your trip, but the food *is* tasty, the staff is really nice, and the ambiance is wonderful. If you...are a fan of 'Kill Bill' and are wondering if you should make the trip here, the answer is yes! Bonus: Lunch was super affordable. We would visit again.More

Awesome atmosphere! We are visiting from San Diego and were looking for a fun restaurant to grab dinner. Food was incredible and not very expensive. It was fun and lively, I’m really glad we came! Highly recommended.

Absolutely brilliant dinner here , as Kill Bill fans this was a must for us. Ordered tempura calamari, tempura prawns , skewer chicken , seaweed and fried chicken . All food was totally delicious . Service and location were fantastic and along with two beers...each we only paid 6500 yen. An absolute must visit in Tokyo and a brilliant start to our holiday .More

We stopped in here since we heard it was the restaurant from Kill Bill. The atmosphere is casual and fun. The chicken yakitori is to die for. My son said it was the best food he ate the entire vacation in Japan. Staff is friendly...as well.More

Few Halal Options Available. Book in Advance for Authentic Halal Wagyu Beef. 100% certified they showed me the packaging. Beef was buttery and beautiful (however, much cheaper in Osaka). They do not sell fried potato chips 🍟 which is what you NEED when eating steak...but they gave us rice. This is not their fault they probably do not know western taste. Amazing dining experience! With there with my wife, very romantic but suitable for family’s. Service was 5* both times we went. A bit more more on the expensive side but 100% worth it. Had to ask for halal wagyu beef 5 times before they understood me. I think they order it in and freeze it so it’s not fresh like I wanted :( but luckily they had one left and agreed to make it for me if I waited. This is understandable as they must have few Muslim customers. But it was well worth the wait. I would suggest you bring your own McDonald’s chips and ask them to refry to have with your steak. I’m sure they would. The manager a Middle Eastern with long hair was very nice and looked after us for the night. He spoke fluent Japanese. All the rest of the staff were all Japanese and would make a big show when drinks were ordered and when you left. Love it would go back! Had a prawn tempura dish for lunch and the wavy steak in evening. They had halal sauces for us as well :) Please get frozen potato chips and a fryer!More
