The wonderful experience at Waentei Kikko leaves you feeling like you have just dined at the finest, traditional Japanese restaurant in town. The owners are a charming, warm and friendly couple who make you feel welcome from moment you arrive, and their staff are equally...as hospitable. The food is an amazing journey in itself, with only the freshest, most delicate produce presented. But the highlight is most definitely the authentic Shamisen performance, which was simply amazing and really did capture the essence of Waentei-kikko perfectly. A truly memorable experience.More

Kikko is a lovely family run restaurant in Asakusa. The area itself has become quite busy with tourists during the day but in the evening it is actually better. The gates and temple are stunning and beautifully lit in the evening. Kiki is best the...temple and from the outside looks like an old small house , inside it is a lovely space for traditional dining. We had a delicious dinner last night and fantastic friendly service from the family. We had a traditional menus with several courses , each course was delicious and well presented. We had a lovely mixture to start with some beautifully presented amuse bouche, two of the small delicacies were made with blowfish which we had always wanted to taste, it was really good, then we had soup , ver tasty, then sashimi which was very good quality it just melted in you mouth, the tuna and sea bream were very tender and soft and tasty the snapper had a bit more texture but was also delicious, next beautifully tender and tasty chicken served with aubergine, then a bowl of delicious noodles and to finish some strawberries and cooked apple. We had beer, umeshu and saki with the meal. We thought the meal was very reasonable for the high quality of food and drinks we had. It came to under £180 which was not too bad. The owner and a young waiter played a tradition musical instrument which was amazing and added to the good atmosphere. The owner was very skilled. The husband and wife were both very helpful and friendly and their son who served us was charming and spoke very good English. The restaurant was gorgeous as was the food and service. If we are lucky enough to visit Tokyo again we would go back at least once. Fantastic tradition evening with some lovely people. They do lovely Bento boxes st lunchtime too and they looked excellent. We hope to be lucky enough to visit again as we have been to many excellent restaurants in Japan and this was one of the best.More

This is a small restaurant with outstanding service, delicate tasty food, and a limited array of excellent beverages including sake, wine, whiskey and beer. The owner is a master musician, who along with a younger man, gives a shamisen performance during the course of dinner....We had a 6 course tasting menu that was beautifully presented and delicious from start to finish. Seating was uncomfortable with seats with a back and foot room under the table. The family that ran this restaurant were super friendly and spoke enough English to make us feel comfortable. Definitely worth a visit!More

This was epic. Such a great way to try some key delicacies of Japan. The shamisen performance goes down as one of the best things I saw during my time in Tokyo. Staff were so kind and willing to speak with us (through an interpreter!)....10/10 recommend.More

The restaurant is quite small with a total seating capacity of 11 persons; however, this should in no way be taken as a complaint, as the quality of the experience and of the food, is simply unique and memorable. From the moment that the guide...and the plated food is presented, a foreshadowing of sorts comes into play. This is quote smart and creative, and I highly commend the thought process that has gone into the ensuring of a satisfying customer experience. Now talking about the beef alone, each way you cook it, whether just for a light searing, or if you prefer to have a golden brown colour, the tastes changes as well. This, together with the sauces provided gives any person an array of choices to find their favourite combination.More

We had an excellent experience, the people are very friendly and the meal was very nice. The building might benefit from an english sign to make it easier for tourists to find.

We went for the 2 layer lunch box and enjoyed a very serene and relaxing lunch in a lovely traditional Japanese house located amongst the busy Sensoji temple area of Tokyo. We had an amazing experience at kikko! We arrived for lunch, the lunch set is a good option for saving money while still experiencing the place. The place itself is beautiful. The food was one of the best meals I've ever had! And there was...a shamisen live performance. The staff were incredibly sweet. We had a bit of a misunderstanding about the price of the lunch set- we initially ordered the double lunch set as we are a couple and thought the price was meant for 2 persons. Turns out that the double means the bigger size of the set, and the price of it was for each person. We still had an amazing experience and definitely recommendMore

I've been traveling to Japan regularly for the last 3 years. I've spent about 5 months in country. I say this only to give perspective. This is the best dining experience I've have in Japan. We were met at the door by the owner who...led us to our table. We had specified the least expensive course for dinner. The waiter took our drink order and gave us the course menu for our meal. Each course was prepared to perfection in both appearance and favor. A culinary delight. The meal by itself is reason enough to go to Kikko, but that is only part of the experience. The owner is a renowned Shamisen musician and he performs a short set while you eat. Though I must admit, I was unable to continue eating while he played. I am a new fan of the Shamisen and I could not focus on anything other than the music. Once complete, we finished our meal. It was about 2 hours for the meal. The atmosphere is one of tranquility; relaxing from beginning to end. To cap off a perfect evening, the owner offered photos with us and walked us to the street as we left. I cannot say enough. I will return.More
