We visited Calstock this easter. It poured with rain. The lowest point was finding out that there was no food available in Calstock where we were staying, on Tuesday, after bank holiday Monday. So, miserable and with two miniature Schnauzers in tow, we went back to our favourite pub, the Boot Inn, to order a packet of crisps and some drinks for supper. Even though the restaurant was shut, the owner took pity on us, opened the kitchen and cooked the best meal we had on our short stay. The food was cooked with loving care and we experienced a real Cornish welcome. My advice is simple: You need to book early - and avoid the wrong telephone number on a web site - don’t bother going anywhere else for supper in Calstock. And there is a real wood fire to warm yourself if it is wet and cold. 😀

We had a great dinner, choosing two completely different choices from the menu, steak and duck. While we waited for our food we were given good hospitality and treated to the chef’s home made soda bread (very nice). Our dinner was worth the wait, and the service was welcoming, friendly but not intrusive.

On the back of previous reviews we gave the Boot Inn a try and so, so glad we did. Arrived early evening and felt really at home, with a friendly barman and locals making us welcome, with good conversation, a proper old English pub at its best….good local ale and quality red wine. To cap it all the food exceeding all expectations. We enjoyed the baked Camembert and pâté to start and we both had the ribeye steak for main with beautiful sweet tomatoes, mushroom and wicked homemade chips. We also had both homemade sauces, one peppercorn, the other Stilton. OMG…they were exceptional and I’m prone to be critical so that is real praise. We will definitely return when we next visit the area. It wasn’t cheap but was real value in a world where all too often you are left feeling disappointed. 10/10 ….keep up the great work

The Sunday roast at the Boot Inn is the best I have ever had. I am so glad I live locally to this lovely old characterful pub. We love coming here and do it as often as we can, bringing family and friends along. Honestly its not worth all the effort to make a roast at home when entertaining, everyone is happy to buy their Sunday roast here!

Food is cooked to order and with great skill and almost pleasure. Absolutely marvellous. Great beer also. Fresh, warm soda bread with lashings of cool, Cornish butter is served while you wait for your food Very friendly folks.

Roast perfection!!!! This hidden gem in the heart of Calstock served up the most wonderful of Sunday Roast Dinners. The delicious food was generously portioned, and in fact the chef added a little special extra to enjoy… the cosy ambience and friendly staff created a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday afternoon for our family, and we will DEFINITELY be returning to sample some more of the incredible food.

We were staying one minute away in holiday accommodation, so it made sense to go and try out the pub. Cosy and inviting, with a very friendly greeting, we were made to feel instantly at home. And the food! Good grief, it was amazing. We got fresh bread and butter for an appertif - clearly freshly made and melt in the mouth. Then we tried the chicken burger and chicken kiev. It was clear everything had been made from scratch. It was delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection - even the salad dressing was delicious! The only terrible thing is the portion was so huge I could eat dessert!! Definitely worth a drive if you live close by - free parking down at the Quay at Calstock which is about 2 minutes away.

Nice atmosphere and very Inn. Landlady and Landlord both were very friendly, we felt very welcome through out of our visit. Most of all the food was really good and nicely done. Totally enjoyed the whole experience. We were pleased to hear that they do an evening for the hardworking lads in the village by holding a Liver and Bacon night for £5 per head once a fortnight. What a very nice thing to do for people in their community. We plan to eat there again during this stay. Top notch .

From the outside it may appear closed but don't let that put you off.... The minute we walked in we was welcomed by a cosy atmosphere, roaring fire, friendly chatty landlords followed by the best Roast I've ever had in a pub. These days I normally steer clear of roasts as they are expensive, scrimp on portions and leave you feeling totally underwhelmed for the money. What a totally different experience at The Boot Inn. Delicious food, amazing size portions and brilliant quality. The Trio of meats was incredible and superb value for money. Highly recommended

The Boot Inn is tucked away in the small village of Calstock. The minute you walk in you are welcomed by the staff. The food is excellent and we especially like the scallops in prosecco sauce. The steak and duck are also our favourites. The added bonus for us is we can use the Plymouth to Gunnislake train service. We can't wait for our next visit

Great food & so much of it! Easy & obliging - they were happy to give us the fresh wild sea bass with all the sunday roast trimmings. Almost ran out of fingers to counts the veg... Generous & accommodating with service too, even when busy. Loved it. And not a TV in sight :)}

I have been staying in Calstock over the summer and had the absolute pleasure of dining multiple times at the Boot Inn since I arrived. Calstock is a small village in Cornwall, but the food and service at the Boot Inn are exceptional and better than most restaurants I went to in London before coming to Cornwall. The Sunday Roast, all fish dishes, Ribeye Steak, and desserts are outstanding. The staff is great and welcoming, and they are dog-friendly. I've had guests from Canada and Austria visit me, and they all agree that the Boot Inn is top-notch.

“They do terrific food!”, claimed my brother before we arrived at the inn and, indeed, we were not at all disappointed. I had chateaubriand and I can honestly say it was the best steak I have ever had in my life. My wife dined on sea bass in a ginger & lemon sauce, and she found it succulently tender and delicious. The pub is quirkily traditional and both the landlady and the landlord-cum-chef, are very personable and friendly. Given the quality of the cuisine, the prices are most reasonable, you could pay much more in an equivalent high-class restaurant and not have anything like such an enjoyable feast. Mind, this establishment has a mild whiff of Dickensian eccentricity about it. If you prefer modern, bland and boring, as served up by the major pub chains, don’t bother to come here. We, ourselves, shall certainly book a table again the next time we roam the West Country.

Loved this pub. Firstly they got us a drink when they were actually closed as we were in desperate need after a huge walk. Really nice of them when they didn’t have to! Our friends have moved nearby so we had some great chats about the local area and came back for a pint that night. Last night we had the most wonderful meal, Shaun cooked to perfection 4 completely different meals including fish, duck, steak and lamb - each of which has a knack to getting perfect, which he achieved. We had scallops to start which were divine! We were also provided with his homemade Irish soda bread which was delicious. Kim and Harry kept us in drinks and banter and it was lovely that we got to compliment Shaun in person before we left, what a lovely family. Thank you guys, we will be back next year 💚🇮🇪☘️

If you want an amazing roast in the most relaxed fun atmosphere then The Boot Inn is highly recommended. Tasty, fresh and extremely plentiful, great down to earth hosts and team, fine ales and bread and butter pudding to die for. Proper Job!
