Gem of restaurant. Fantastic food. Sylvie is a warm gracious host. Beachside location. Not fancy, come in your swimwear if you want. The food is off the charts. Superb giant cocktails too. A pleasant surprise on the beach.

Nice cocktail, excellent fishfood, fresh products , open kitchen , brochette, super🙂restaurant, very friendly service with a big smile, one of the best restaurants we were at Guadeloupe, Thanks again👍😎🌅🐙🦀🦑🍷😀🦂
We visited here for lunch based on a newspaper review we read. Boy, did the staff see us coming! Our server immediately handed us the "tourist menu," which had nothing but overpriced brochettes and none of the cheaper but tastier items that Guadeloupe is rightly...famous for. We were served a few giant shrimp, that looked wonderful but ended up tasting like cardboard. Other tables had fun stuff like salt cod fritters and grilled fish - and we looked on with envy at those diners! To make matters worse, the staff spoke ZERO English (not unusual in Guadeloupe, but how hard is it for someone in the hospitality business to learn the English word for water?). They failed to also mention that the shrimp brochette was big enough for two - so we ended up over-ordering and taking away the rest. And did I mention they charged 30 euros for each of us, in a beachside shack? $80USD for a bad meal with surly, uncommunicative waitstaff was more than we could stand. I don't want to seem grumpy about the overall experience, because we loved Guadeloupe otherwise - it's magical. So, by all means, visit this wonderful island but STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! There are many other better places on Basse-Terre to enjoy.More
This was the only bad meal we had on our visit to Guadeloupe. We read about this place in a New York Times article. It is a cute beachside spot but our menu seemed to lack some of the dishes we saw at other tables....Everything was expensive. We both ordered the shrimp brochettes. The shrimp were extraordinarily large but had no flavor! They were served with brown rice and beans and a little salad. We each ordered a drink but halfway through the meal wanted a bottle of water. The server without a smile brought us a cocktail. Eventually we got the water. Trying to get the check was another matter. The normal “hand signal “ of miming writing did not work here and the spoke no English. This did not happen at any other beach places we chose. As this was our first meal in Guadeloupe we were concerned that this place represented the norm on the island. Luckily it did not!More
This time I found myself in The French Island of Guadaloupe. It is Sunday morning and I decided to hire a driver and asked him to give me a fast tour of the island. In my opinion Guadaloupe is for people that loves nature and...tranquility. An island with exuberant beauty and real honest and straight forward people that will accommodate your needs providing you're not rude and arrogant. In Guadaloupe humility will get you a long way. As we approached lunch time with my broken French, I asked the driver where will he go and have an authentic Creole lunch!! With a savvy smile and with his broken Spanish he tells me "Espera, ya veras" as we reach the coast we make a quick left turn to a parking lot that is surrounded by little cozy eateries. We parked his SUV and I asked him if he was hungry. His reply was assuring when I hear him saying " not very hungry but rest assured once sitting down and the aromas from the kitchen start caressing our noses we will be very hungry. There it was Le Marché des Isles "Chez Sylvie" and they were not kidding with the sign that say "Cuisine exclusivement locale" When you're presented with food like this, there is not much to say except, simply outstanding, more local than this it can't be conceived. Beautifully arranged and humbly served. We decided for the grilled fish, it was accompanied by perfectly fry sweet plantains as good as my mother will make me 40 years ago in my native Venezuela and mash calabaza. On top of all, the green aioli served with the fish was a tasteful addition. Bravo Sylvie, this is one more occasion in which I found myself not paying someone to upset me when I decided to eat somebody else's food. I also have to make a remark about the service. Courteous and efficient!!! Do not forget to try the flavored rums which will induce a well deserved nap. Mercy beaucoup!!!More

Good food, good beverages! We ordered fresh fishes with local vegetables and I must say it was very good and in the right quantity. Only drawback: we have not been very pleased with the staff as...
