Stayed here overnight and for dinner as a special anniversary treat.. From being greeted by Maria and shown to our exquisite and opulent room and bathroom, the evening was a dream. Completely unpretentious, Maria as front of house was professional and yet very approachable and...friendly. Her service and then the tasting menu was superb. Her son and chef, Garry, came out several times to explain what was in the next delightful mouthfuls. His culinary expertise is extraordinary. To appreciate just how special this place is, you need to try it. Totally divine and unforgettable.More
Outstanding family run restaurant with rooms. We visited on the strength of all the other 5 star reviews on Tripadvisor. The whole establishment is beautifully interior designed with lots of classy touches. We stayed overnight Courtyard Suite that is separate from the main building and...a short walk over the car park to the restaurant. Maria the host is impeccable straight from the start and makes you feel at home. The restaurant is cosy with only six tables and has lovely atmosphere with calm Jazz music playing. Then the food...WOW! Chef Garry who is Marias son cooked easily one of the finest dinners we have had in Scotland from the Beetroot & Horseradish Canape, Pea Veloute with Bacon and Parmesan Curd, Whipped Duck Liver Mousse with Vanilla Cherry, Salmon Tartare with Smoked Mussel, Lamb with the most amazing Black Pudding Puree then the two outstanding desserts of Cluizel Chocolate Cremeux with Pistachio Ice Cream and then the lightest freshest Mango Iced Parfait with Crisp Meringue and acidity of Passion Fruit. We ordered coffee to finish and the Chocolate Caramel truffles served with it were unbelievable! Wines are also excellent and very reasonably priced for an establishment of this sort. Breakfast in morning again first class. The restaurant holds 3AA Rosettes for culinary excellence and rumours that a MICHELIN Star is heading soon. We can not recommend Gordon's highly enough... Go go go!More
We had the tasting menu at £85 per head Some of the food was fabulous The drinks were well priced We liked the amuse bouche sesame treat, the salmon tartar, the lamb and bread and butter We would have preferred not to have had bread...and butter as a course We liked the first dessert made with the best chocolate you can get I just didn't get why we were given an over sweet mango Icecream with meringue after as it was sickly sweet and sugar overload Service nice and relaxed The jazz played was jarring. Overall if you want to splash out, this is a fun experienceMore
Wonderful experience and food tonight. A few years since we visited, due to COVID etc. every bit as good, if not better. Thank you
This is the most amazing restaurant and my third visit. It is addictive, fine dining with flavours that zing on the palate. Local produce cooked to perfection, with love by chef Garry Watson. Service is impeccable, the wine list is impressive and the ambience beautiful.
Leaving my first ever Tripadvisor review because I wanted to share how great this place is, and I went there because of the great Tripadvisor reviews. Booked for dinner and stayed over (in the spacious and beautiful Thistle room). Maria is a fantastic host, from...the initial contact, through a cordial dinner and delicious breakfast. Garry's tasting menu was superb. First-class, astonishing dishes, served in a relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was similarly memorable. Quality ingredients expertly prepared. Forget tasteless crumbly black pudding or over-fatty sausages. Each component of the Scottish breakfast was perfection. All of this presented in a classy, comfortable dining room. As the website says, this place is 'tucked away' but I would heartily recommend looking for it. Thanks again to our terrific hosts.More
This was our second visit to Gordon’s Restaurant with Rooms and we were a wee bit nervous that it wouldn’t be as good as the first time we visited (about 5 years ago), when we had the most delicious meal. We needn’t have worried! We...were welcomed by the lovely Maria and shown our rooms - very stylish and comfortable. We went for dinner around 7.30pm. Every course we had was absolutely amazing - and Chef Garry easily catered for gluten free hubbie and cheese hater sister. The first meal we had here was one of the most memorable and tasty we’ve ever had (and we like eating out). This second meal was easily up there as another one we won’t ever forget. We’ve already decided to go back again in December. Service was friendly and relaxed. Chef Garry also helped with service. We had a laugh with Maria and really enjoyed our evening. We had a good sleep in a comfortable bed, followed by a very tasty breakfast the next day. If you’re even thinking of booking this restaurant, just do it. You won’t regret it.More
We drove over an hour to get here for dinner after hearing about this place. Maria and her husband, Gordon, opened this fine restaurant in 1986. Their son Gary has taken over as head chef in recent years. This was an absolutely magnificent meal from...start to finish. My favorite courses were the soup, the salmon and the strawberries, but all were incredible. Maria gave wine pairing suggestions and all were wonderful. The whole experience was just the finest meal experience we had in years and certainly so far this Scotland trip.More
This is a gem of a place, a fantastic restaurant with very comfortable rooms. It's great news that this place had survived the pandemic downturn, which seems to have been possible thanks to the excellent stewardship of the family owner/proprietors. The food prepared by head...chef Garry on the tasting menu took us on a journey of taste bud tingling flavours and aromas. Maria on front of house managed a fine balance of friendly engagement and knowledgeable advice on food and drink. The rooms are provided to a high specification and are extremely clean. The comfortable beds are a welcome retreat to follow an excellent meal. Breakfast continued the excellent service and food quality of dinner. This place is really worth a detour!More
So , a very late review for this excellent little restaurant with rooms ! Visited here last august whilst spending a couple of nights touring the north east area. Very friendly staff (mother & staff) , great food served in a lovely establishment and a...fantastic, luxurious and very comfortable room to round of our evening! Superb breakfast too ! Would definitely recommend this to anyone. Whether just for a meal, or making a night of it!More
Absolutely fabulous dinner fresh local produce cook with love attention and a great deal of skill friendly attentive service Brilliant mother and son team Highly recommend this restaurant
We visited for the first time. The family are warm and welcoming. They cope beautifully with the food allergies in our company. Nothing is too much trouble. The food is wonderful. They made our Christmas so special. Just go. It’s worth it.
Very warm welcome to a delightfully cozy restaurant. Tasting menu exceeded expectation, with the carrot and mushroom veloute being a highlight. The time between the 8 courses was sensitively done and the New Zealand wine was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and look forward...to returning!More
We spent an enjoyable evening having the tasting menu which was among the best food we have ever had. The food, which had been recommended to us was superb and the service was just right. There was no hint of the stuffiness you sometimes get...in establishments that highlight the quality of the food. We stayed in one of the rooms which are available on the premises ( Thistle room) and it was great to be able to amble up the stairs after such a sumptuous meal. We will be back.More
