Lovely atmosphere, extremely friendly the mother who was helping was such an asset, as she kept coming and having a joke with us, she had us in fits of laughing. Only downside was the long wait for the food, but when it came it was...excellent. I understand they had a large party in and were very busy, all the staff were lovely and we will certainly go again as we don’t live far away.More

We visited after a cold day at Cbeebies Land with our friends and our children, a group of 7 in total. The pub was warm and welcoming, the staff were friendly and accommodating. We opted for the Sunday Lunch sharing board, there was plenty of...food between us and it was lovely. Great value for money. I would definitely recommend and re visit if I was in the area.More

Can’t fault the food at The Star. Delicious meals every time. Very friendly and attentive staff, who are always happy to recommend dishes. I can highly recommend the Beef Ragu Pie with cheesy mashed potato topping. The pie sharing board is equally fabulous and a...very generous portion , including three hearty pies accompanied by a plethora of vegetables. We will definitely be recommending The Star to others.More

Thank you for a lovely review 💕

Such a disappointment. Cold plates, almost raw broccoli , couldn’t put my fork in it. I asked it to be replaced and the replacement was also inedible including more bits of broccoli and Brussels sprouts that were too hard. There was too much empty space on...my plate, the salmon Wellington portion was far too small. We decided that if the “chef” couldn’t cook a sprout then we wouldn’t bother with dessert and left immediately. It’s a beautiful pub and our waitress Emma, was lovely, polite, smiling and couldn’t apologise enough. They discounted our bill. But we still went home very early feeling disappointed we bothered.More

Hi Thank you for your review. We have asked our chef to not cook the vegetables al dente anymore, it is not everyone’s cup of tea so we will ensure they are cooked more. Everyone likes their vegetables different. Thank you for the lovely comments...More

Six adults two children, the food was excellent, cider soup, steak n ale pie, chicken pie, fish n chips, all top quality, the chicken skewers were great, plenty of chicken pieces, large portions. If I had one gripe, the beer at £4:95 is probably a...pound to much.More

Lovely Sunday roast. However, I think the flavour could be improved. The log fire was also off but others were on in different areas of the restaurant. The waitress was even asked by another table if it could be turned on and she said “yes,...I’ll get that sorted” and she did not come back to it. She hadn’t gone home or anything because she was still serving. It would have been a lovely touch. To finish off, we had the Apple Crumble for desert and it was amazing! The best apple crumble I have ever had and I am a big fan of crumble’s. This would have got a 5* from me if the two things mentioned above were ticked off.More

Outstanding. Another visit to The STAR at Cotton. The food is as good as the service, Exceptional. This week it was the Sunday roast for me, which is served with a side of cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, parsnip, carrots, green beans, red cabbage, roast and...mash potato and lots of gravy. It really is top notch. I always have a glass or two of the French Rose it is superb. Always book as it can get very busy.More

Lovely meal, seated in a lovely corner by the fire. Staff were lovely, pleasant and attentive. Only downside is a noticeable delay between the adult meals being served and the kids meals coming. Followed by a long delay in the additional sides coming which arrived...just before I finished my main. Not a huge issue as I didn't really need the extra but perhaps a point to note for the otherwise fab venue. Of note, we came here as the food at Alton towers was over priced excrement and that's being kind. The meal here was cheaper than the crap we had at the secret garden in Alton towers but this was actually quality decent foodMore
