Booked a table for Sunday lunch having eaten here in the evenings before now. You get a 2 hour slot for your table which was ample time for only 3 of us. We didn't feel rushed either. The food arrived hot and plentiful - delicious actually followed by 3 desserts which were equally as good. A couple of points to note though. While I would definitely return for an evening meal, I didn't realise that dogs were allowed with the tables while you are eating - something I believe should be advertised. I don't necessarily want dogs around the tables when eating - it's ok in the bar area away from diners and for this reason, wouldn't return for sunday lunch, especially as a family member is very allergic! We may have been lucky for dinner and just not had them around. Secondly, there is an automatic service charge of 12.5% added to the bill.

Hi t_onik028, Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your Sunday lunch and that our food lived up to your expectations. It's wonderful to know that you found the portions plentiful and the dishes delicious. I appreciate your feedback regarding our dog policy. I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused during your dining experience. Your suggestion to clearly advertise our pet-friendly areas is duly noted, and we'll be looking into the best way to make this clear to customers. Regarding the automatic service charge, we understand your concern. I want to clarify that the service charge is optional, though this should be mentioned by a member of staff at the time of delivering the bill. Clearly this was missed, so I apologise for that. Whilst we may not change our policy on allowing dogs in our dining areas, we are able to assure that you're not directly next to one. I appreciate this may not be enough if allergies are involved, but I do hope you'd consider visiting us again. Kind regards, Nathanial

Cannot fault this wonderful pub. We had a fantastic early dinner before heading to a family party nearby. There were 8 of us, with differing food requirements, and every one of us had not only great options but all had fantastic meals. Prices were very reasonable for the amazing quality of food and all the meals came out together. Our choices ranged from fish finger sandwiches to sausage and mash, fish and chips to venison pie; everyone had a fabulous plate of food. I had the vegan pie, gorgeous, an amazing step up from the normal vegan options available. Will definitely return when we’re in the area!

Very good choice of gluten-free food, including gluten-free vegetarian. I had a few things to choose from that suited my dietary requirements. The food was very nicely cooked, although the kale was a bit chewy. If you're a good cook, then it's not as good as home-cooked, but much better than your average pub food. I'm not really a fan of places that add an automatic service charge to the bill. This place adds an extra 12.5%. No other negatives.

We have been a patrons of the Red Lion for many years now, but recently have noticed a decline in the quality of the food. On Saturday 13th we had dinner and decided to order starters. I order a start from their specials board - the calamari at a cost of £8.95. Considering the price and the fact it was on their specials board i was expecting a sufficient portion of crispy, well seasoned calamari to start. Instead I was presented with 5 slightly soggy pieces plus the bit of another piece of calamari. Certainly not what I was expecting based on the expensive price and the fact it was on special. I immediately asked the member of staff what they thought and they directed me to right this review, acknowledging that the portions and quality of food has been recently impacted recently. each piece of soggy calamari came at a cost of around £1.79. Disappointing. The cost of living is increasing and being able to eat out is now a treat. I would hope and expect that local businesses understand this and therefore make extra efforts in portion size, quality and presentation. I feel that in future we really should now consider if other local pubs are more worthy of our money as this food was expensive for what was provided and also not 'special' in any way for the £8.95 cost. The fact that members of staff agreed and directed me to do this instead of immediately dealing with my complaint, says it all.

Dear Traveler828718 Thank you for being loyal patrons of the Red Lion and for sharing your recent experience. I sincerely apologise for the underwhelming experience you recently received. Your feedback is important, and we are addressing the issue with our kitchen staff to ensure our dishes meet the high standards we expect. Looking at the photo you attached, that should have been spotted before leaving the kitchen. We also apologise for how your complaint was handled by our staff. This does not reflect our commitment to customer service, and falls short of what we expect from our team. We understand that dining out is a treat, especially given the current cost of living, and we aim to provide excellent value and quality, I'm sorry we fell short of the mark on this occasion. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I hope to have the opportunity to serve you better in the future. Best regards, Nathanial

We stayed here recently, for the second time as the first visit was top notch. Unfortunately it was not the faultless experience this time. On arrival we were allocated our room, where we found that room was not as clean as we would expect, bathroom was ok (though no bath mat on first day) however, the bedroom had clearly not been hoovered as there were bits on the floor, tissue and hairs. I would have mentioned it to the staff but my husband did not want to upset staff at the start of our stay. Our first breakfast was continental, which had a great selection with fruit, cereals, yoghurt, cold meats, fresh bread and pastries. This was a very generous selection of good quality produce, plus the tea and coffee was piping hot and served promptly. Hence I had high expectations for the weekend cooked breakfast. The menu was varied and we opted for a full english and poached eggs on toast. This is when standards dropped dramatically though it was clear that the two waitresses were struggling with the volume of guests. We had to wait some time for service and decided to have juice and water, however, no glasses were available. Thus we waited for the hot drinks and food to arrive. After about 30 mins the food which was served was of a very poor standard, the full english had no bacon, the sausage was like cardboard, and the poached eggs were hard and cold, with the toast being cold too. There was clearly an issue with the food but the waitress did not ask if everything ok when they cleared the plates which most of the food had been left. This is such a shame as our first visit was faultless, and we were keen to return. Not sure what has changed in the last year, but I am hoping this was a one off and the service can return to its high standards.

The cocktail I had was flat and really not very nice. My friend and I both had the chicken it was very over cooked and the bacon wrap was hard. One lady asked how our meal was and when we explained about the chicken she had no idea what to say and walked off!! Another person asked and offered my friend and I free puddings which we accepted but have to say they were average. The meal cost over £80 per couple so we will not be going there any time soon 🙁

Four of us visited the Red Lion for lunch to celebrate my birthday. As soon as you walk in you realise what a lot of care has gone into preserving this lovely old building whilst, at the same time, making it look comfortable and appealing. We were served by the very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable lady manager assisted by a very new server who was on her first day working in the pub. Naturally she was nervous but she did and excellent job and when unsure about how to respond to a question or request she quietly asked the manager for advice. We ate a three course lunch and the standard of each course was truly excellent. Goat's cheese or crispy calamari starters, lamb pie, barnsley chop and sausage and mash for mains and a wonderflu rhubarb crumble and custard for pudding. It's not often that we leave a pub truly happy and satifisfied but today we all felt the same. It was faultless. Congratulations to all of the staff!

We had a delightful stay at the Red Lion in Odiham. We were given a cosy room which was tastefully designed, the bedding was crisp and fresh and the shower was fabulous! Supper was delicious and we loved relaxed atmosphere. The waiting staff at supper and then breakfast were all attentive, informed about the food and friendly. We hope to come back for a little break before too long as we well rested and had a wonderful night away, thank you!

Very disappointing breakfast. Two orders of eggs on toasted muffins where the muffin edges were too hard to eat. Two orders of avocado & smoked salmon ordered on granary bread, both arrived on white bread - queried this with the waitress and she was adamant it was granary bread (it was white). Full English breakfast was fine. Such a shame….

Where to start! It's situated in a lovely little village on the main street, parking is 2 sec round the corner and costs a couple quid for an over night stay. The pub is a lovely quaint dog friendly pub, a good menu and the food is absolutely divine! I had the quiche then the bannoffee pie and it was so tasty. The rooms are all individually done and the extra touches just make it from the books on the bedside table to the expresso coffe machine as well as the kettle, the usual room service items which are surprising well priced. They don't have air con but explain why on their little welcome booklet but instead have the Dyson fans which definitely do the job. The rooms were surprising quiet to say they were above a pub, the beds and bedding lovely. You have robes and huge towels in your bathroom and a great shower that stays hot for your entire shower! The only negative I can think of is that the bottled water is in a lovely re fillable bottle which I do not think has been changed or washed out for a while, it did not taste good but luckily the tap water was good and cold. Otherwise I cannot fault it and will definitely be adding it to my favourites as I stay away weekly with work and this is definitely a place I will be coming back to

We stayed for one night and stayed in Hunter room. The room was very spacious, clean and well equipped, bed was extremely comfortable and had a nice big bathroom. Staff were all friendly and helpful and the food (both breakfast and dinner) was very nice and freshly cooked. Coffee was amazing too!! Would definitely stay again and would recommend staying at the Red Lion. The manager was very attentive.

We booked a two night stay here. Warm welcome from the host, who was friendly and efficient. Booked an evening meal, on an extremely busy night. Food was excellent, service spot on despite the pub heaving with customers. Our group of 4 could not fault the service or food. Breakfast service was a relaxing experience, with a good choice provided, with continental during the week and full breakfasts available at the weekend. Room was spacious and clean, the only downside was it was very stuffy, however, we were provided with a fan which was a great help. The hotel explained that it could not install air conditioning due to the very old building layout. Shower room felt luxurious, with fluffy clean towels and toiletries provided on both days. My only negative was there was no wardrobe or drawers for clothes, however, this was outweighed by the overall quality of our stay. We will be back!

First time at the red lion normally go to the waterwitch or derby but they were fully booked but we were not disappointed with Sunday lunch. Great fresh food cooked to perfection and a good range of wine and beers although a sweeter rose should be available. Only miner criticism was vegetables could be served on a separate dish.

Delicious Sunday roast with GF option which was a treat - especially the Yorkshire pudding. The sticky toffee pudding and brownie were amazing and friends couldn’t notice that they were both GF too. Great idea to serve all GF on pink plates as made it easy to share safely and was very reassuring. I wish more places did the same! Thanks to the chefs, we will be back.
