Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is an average of two visits.. Review one - dinner was nice, four stars, I would mention you have pay for vegetables separately, I had sausage and mash, with gravy and that is it, no veg, but I paid extra, and the veg I...got were cooked nicely and it was a nice selection, enjoyable. Review 2 - two stars, I had Chilli con carne, this comes with one tbs sour cream on a large portion of rice and 18 slices of jalapeño. Tiny portion of meat/beans, initially I looked at my dish and thought is that it ? Anyway, it wasn’t good and it was very hot, the actual chilli was hotter than the jalapeños. Disappointing, as I love chilli, it could also be improved with a few frills such as nachos, or guacamole or salsa etc. Stars average tweaked to four rather than 3 overall as the desserts are lovely.More

Called in for a drink We were asked what we wanted, we ordered drinks, and said that was all and we didn't want food. We were then told by the older woman behind the bar, who i think was the manageress, that we were "sad"...for coming in just for a drink !! Nice !More

Booked in advance for early evening but only Sunday lunch menu available. Had roast sirloin which was very fatty and too pink for my liking. The roast potatoes, two very small ones, were dried up and burnt, it seemed like to vegetables had been standing...for a long while. Didn’t enjoy the meal and commented to waitress. Husband had chicken which was ok but burnt dried up roast potatoes. When presented with the bill I asked if she informed the chef, she said yes, but said she couldn’t repeat what he said but when pressed she admitted that others had commented on the burnt potatoes. Expensive food for what it was. The waiting staff were polite and understanding, I know it wasn’t their fault. Needless to say we won’t be visiting for food again.More

Great maritime themed bar/restaurant with friendly staff but on my visit was served up my order of chicken in a basket. I have attached a photo of this totally inedible food? Complained and was given a small discount. Will not return.

Went for lunch, even booked ahead given the positive reviews we read. No need, place was empty. Sadly no seafood but the boats weren't going out because of rough weather. We shared a shrimp starter - garlic butter was just oil and while shrimp were...a decent size the dish was oily and flavourless. My wife ordered fillet steak baguette - steak was clearly re-cooked, dry and burnt. Not really convinced it was filler steak. Sent food back - bar staff said sorry - 'it's not looked like that before'! (So why were they prepared to serve it!). Sadly, just a highly over-rated run of the mill drinking pub.More

We both had fish and chips and they were beautiful. Nicest fish we have eaten in along time. Even the pickled onion was big and tasty.

As we spend a lot of time in Amble we often go to the Harbour for food and drink but after yesterday we will not be going again. We went to the bar for a drink and one of us had to stand as most...of the ‘unoccupied’ tables had reserved signs on them. We were told they were for those customers who wanted food even though there was a restaurant in the Inn with empty tables. I sat on a bar stool and my partner went to sit on the empty one next to it but was told that it was also reserved and then they actually put a reserved sign on the bar in front of it! So although there was room at the Inn we had an unwelcoming and uncomfortable visit.More

The Sunday Lunch this year was as good as ever. We all four had something different but all of us had the roast dinner and it was excellent. Especially the meat and the leeks in a lovely white sauce. And we all got a really...good helping of delicious food. Great value for money. We can recomemend Sunday Lunch at The Harbour Inn,. But you have to book!More

The Harbour Inn is one of the best places to eat in Amble without any doubt. The food is second to none and the staff are superb. BUT they do have a very perplexing and cavalier approach to when they are open and when they...aren’t despite what their advertised opening hours say. We went in for dinner this evening at 19:55 to be told they were closed. We don’t live in Amble, we’re visiting and we go where we fancy for dinner so to be turned away over an hour before the advertised closing time is quite frankly a pain because we then have to find where else to eat from the very limited selection of places that don’t involve driving.More

We were recommended to visit this pub whilst staying in the Amble area on holiday. We booked a table because we wanted to be sure of getting one. The pub is dog friendly and they were made to feel very welcome. The restaurant isn’t particularly...large but there was adequate room for us all to sit comfortably. The food when it came was absolutely lovely. My husband had the brisket which was ‘melt in the mouth’ and I had the lamb chop which was delicious. The accompanying potatoes were gorgeous! We were only sorry we found this place towards the end of our holiday and we wouldn’t hesitate to return if we are in the area again.More
