Butterley Park Cookhouse + Pub offers a diverse menu that has garnered appreciation from guests for its variety and value, though some have expressed disappointment with dishes being overcooked or arriving cold. Patrons have encountered inconsistent wait times, facing delays even when the establishment isn't crowded and despite having reservations. Service quality also varies, with reports of both prompt, attentive interactions and occasions where the staff appears overstretched. While some diners feel the experience is worth the cost, others question the restaurant's value proposition.

This bar and restaurant was a regular visit for us during a week in Derbyshire. The staff from the first night we arrived gave us a warm welcome and great service, explaining everything in regards to their Covid measures and the processes they have in place which gave us great confidence in being there. The staff were always smiley and polite, would go out of their way to accommodate our food or drink requirements and even sometimes providing gestures and service above and beyond our expectations. Adele was particularly helpful, hospitable and kind with exceptional customer service as was a male colleague (Joe we think his name was??) who were both friendly and there most days. It was refreshing that all staff we encountered were as equally wonderful as one another. We didn’t book in advance but we were always found a table if required and the food was great value for money, they even assisted with food challenges we presented with no trouble at all. Well worth a visit for singles, families and couples for a drink and or a spot of lunch/dinner. Thanks to all of the staff, they are lovely people that made us feel welcome on every visit.

Thank you for making our meal out such a lovely experience. In a world that still feels very odd to me where you count the people you can meet with on the fingers of 1 hand and sing happy birthday (twice) every time you wash your hands to go out for a bite to eat , be greeted by friendly and welcoming staff and served really good value and tasty food is a real treat. We had a shared mixed starter and a veggie burger and chicken forrestier and profiteroles to finish. All really tasty. All served by the rather lovely Chloe who was just the sweetest waitress I have had the pleasure of meeting in a long while. She really cared that we had a nice time and that everything was perfect for us. Really I can’t say a big enough thank you for giving us such an enjoyable evening.

Staying at the Premier inn next door and being unfamiliar with the area we chose to utilise this eatery for our evening meals based on recent reviews but was sadly disappointed with the quality of the food in general. On the first night hubby chose fish and chips- obviously frozen because the fish was an unappetising shade of grey, my scampi was fried to within an inch of its life and the skin on chips were just edible. The second night hubby chose the ultimate burger which he said was ‘just okay’ I chose the lamb shank which was again just edible. There was more bone and fat than lamb and it was a tiny little thing, I ended up picking off what I could and just ate the mash and vegetables. So disappointed with the food that we chose not to even eat breakfast there - something we normally would do when stopping at a premier inn. That said the staff were lovely, attentive without being intrusive and there are some good offers on drinks through the week

I go to the Cookhouse at Ripley on a reasonably regular basis and to be fair, both the food and service are both reasonably good for what you pay. Unfortunately though it was a let down yesterday (Sunday 25th Oct.) I opted for a 'Sunday roast' which I've had many times before here and it has always been excellent. This time however they advised there was no carvery but were still doing a 'roast dinner.' Ok fair enough...I get with the current situation they don't want customers queuing at the serverie so assumed the meats, veg etc were out the back on the deck and just plated up for you behind the scenes. Hate to say it but I've had better ready 'roast dinner' ready meals for £1 from Iceland. Food was tasteless, half of what would normally be on a carvery and was obviously pre-prepared and microwaved. They may have just about got away with putting it on their 2 for £8.99 meals at a huge push. The only saving grace was the friendly young guy who served me (Jude I think?) hence the 2 star review. Rightly or wrongly, I didn't complain as a) it's normally good b) I was in a rush and c) I was hungry so didn't have time to wait around. I don't wish to be critical, but if you can't serve your normal top quality carveries, please just leave it off the menu. Certainly not worth £9.99. Wish now I'd have driven the extra 10 minutes to the Toby at Mansfield. I will be back but not for a Sunday roast until it's done in their usual way at the carvery deck.

Bland , greasy badly cooked rubbish for either those who are too drunk to care or who have absolutely no taste buds . After a long days training , hungry I stopped at this pub which is a rebrand on the usual Premier Inn pubs. I had hoped for something at least edible but after waiting 25 mins and paying for an upgrade on my steak I got a mixed grill (costed at £16.79 after the upgrade) which was dripping in grease with rock hard eggs and obviously recycled chips cooked hours earlier . Staff were no where to be seen and after paying my bill I was grateful to have mints in the car to take away the taste of the truely awful food . Next time I'll drive by and find somewhere else . Definitely they rely on a captive audience from the hotel without much choice . Really if you are staying there try McDonald's over the road as they will offer much more edible food

I’ve visited the restaurant twice in the last month with vulnerable adults with work, the staff are so welcoming and accommodating, nothing was to much trouble. Our waitress was Gemma she was friendly and smiling the whole time. Would defiantly recommend this place great value for money and great staff

We was really looking forward to our visit. We have been several times before and have had mixed experiences in the past. We booked for breakfast on bank holiday Monday to take advantage of the eat out to help out scheme. £8.99 for ‘unlimited’ breakfast for myself, my wife and the three kids....what could go wrong? With the COVID rules understandably the unlimited breakfast rules have changed, you can help yourself to toast, croissants and coffee and everything else is served. We ordered our breakfast and a glass of orange juice. I ‘ordered’ toast and was told to go and help myself which is fine. The bread is in individually wrapped packaging to reduce handling. However....there was a sign that says ‘please bring your own plate.’ Just a quick comment from the waitress to explain this when ordering food would have prevented 30+ people looking for plates then disappointingly carrying hot toast in the packaging or burning their fingers carrying it back to the table! As there was queuing then nobody was willing to walk back to their table. I headed back to the table and drunk the orange juice that had been brought over. When the breakfasts came around 25 minutes later I asked for another glass....which never came. I got another coffee with the intention to find a member of staff but couldn’t find one. 45 minutes after we had eaten and sat frustratingly waiting for someone to come back, we eventually left. Our eldest daughter asked if she could have more bacon to have a toasted sandwich. With the crazy length of time we had to wait with nobody coming we went to Sainsbury’s to buy some and made it when we come home. So much for unlimited. I understand it’s busy, I understand it’s bank holiday. I appreciate that. But it being ‘unlimited’ and having nobody at any point popping back to the table to even ask how the food was gave no opportunity to have any more cooked food. We left frustrated, even if it was cheap.

For reasons unknown my 5 year old loves this place, we visit on a semi regular basis and to be honest it’s pretty inconsistent. The food is standard pre prepared chain restaurant stuff, for the mist part the ‘chefs’ manage to reheat it according to the label. Post Covid and post eat out to help out the restaurant was very clean and less than half full. Staff were polite and friendly but service was AWFUL, damned AWFUL. Drinks order was taken quickly and delivered in timely manner at which point out food order was taken, food was a little slow to arrive given the scarcity of customers. After that we were ignored, the waitress walked past our table twice but made every effort to avoid eye contact; we finished our drinks, nobody asked if we would like another, we finished our main course, stacked the plates neatly at the end of our table; but the waitress was busy chatting to other staff to notice, to clear our table or to ask if we might like a dessert, another drink or the bill . Eventually i went to the till, paid and left feeling hungry, thirsty and annoyed.

We booked a table for 4 people on Thursday 29th July. I had been given a voucher, as part of their loyalty card, for my birthday back in March and also a voucher code for free desserts when a meal is ordered from the Main menu. We normally book from the 2 for £8.99 menu so we expected something a bit special. What a disappointment. I ordered baked salmon with hollandaise sauce, skin on fries and a salad. The salmon was very dry, sauce had no taste, fries looked as though they had been cooked the day before and warmed up and the salad was rocket and half a tomato. 2 of my friends had fish and chips but they have had better from the cheaper menu, my other friend had lasagne with garlic bread. Very runny sauce and garlic bread was rock hard round the edges - uneatable. The lady who showed us to our table was very unhelpful - I asked if we could use both our vouchers together and her reply was "you'll have to look at your terms and conditions" then walked off. This restaurant needs to up their game. It will be a while before we go again. Much below their normal standard.

We had a table for 2 booked for Breakfast. The Manager opened on time and, very professionally, took us through their current Covid proceedures. We paid for our Full Breakfasts and were escorted to our table, with the one way system and reduced self serve drinks and toast system explained. Our Breakfast orders were taken and delivered promptly and with a friendly manner. The food looked and tasted fantastic. I assume mainly cooked to order as we were the first customers. A shame that Bubble and Squeak wasn't on the menu but still a really nice breakfast. The individually wrapped croissants etc were a great idea to maintain their availability. Graet service all round. We will be back again soon!!

We had lunch here a short while after lockdown restictions were lifted and were impressed with the level of service form the waiting staff. We were pleased to see that the restaurant was quite busy for midweek. The food, however was okay and well priced, especially with the "eatout to help out" promotion. We didn't expect the food to be fantastic - you wouldn't come here for that, it was, as I said, okay! It was timed well and nicely presented.

My wife and I have eaten at this pub often and being creatures of habit always have the haddock for lunch which is exceptional value for money and good quality usually perfectly cooked. On the last two occasions the fish was overcooked with dark batter and dried out. I let it go the first time but queried it with the charming waitress who spoke to the chef. He assured her that the fish was cooked to order. I don't believe it . This had been left too long under sun lamp or in the fryer. I am quite prepared to pay more but I don't think it's too much to ask to have it cooked properly to their usual standard.

We have visited the Cookhouse before & had a nice meal so we thought we would give it another go. So glad we did. My wife & I chose off the 2 for £8.99 menu & were really impressed with the food quality & portion size. Our little boy selected off the £4.99 children's menu & again tasty food & lots of choice. A special mention to the waiting on staff, all were hard working & really friendly, a credit to the pub!! Also our little boy was disappointed that the toy grabber machine wasn't working, so the manager let him choose a toy for free!!! A lovely touch & very much appreciated. Overall a nice, friendly pub with great food.

I took my elderly mother for lunch, where I have been several times, and ordered the gammon for my mother. When it arrived mum started to eat the chips and the waitress Sarah M asked how the food was, and I looked at mum, she nodded as the chips were nice, only to find when she attempted the gammon it was so tough, she couldn't eat it. So when she left it and i had finished mine, when the waitress came over i mentioned how tough it was, and anyone could see that virtually most of the gammon was still.on the plate, she argued that she had asked us if it was ok, and we said yes. So there was no complaint. Mother had a dessert to fill her and then when the bill came, it was for the full cost. I have been here many times before but never had service as bad and as rude as this time.

My friend and I visited here for a carvery, the new rules for entry and exit are straight forward and reasonable, floor markings make access around easier and everything is table service, apart from fetching your carvery - but this is served for you, you just tell the chef what you want on your plate!! Disappointed that there where no carrots on there though and the roast potatoes looked amazing but where very dry. Regardless still a good meal. The pudding was lovely!!
