When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Simply my favourite place for lunch on the Isle of Wight. It gets busy and if the weather turns sour your booking will be cancelled. The road down is bumpy and good luck if you meet a car coming the other way! Book it anyway...though. The food is fantastic and the setting is beautiful.More

Our experience was the same as others who have already registered their distaste for this overpriced, pretentious disappointment of an eatery. Lured by the entirely misleading sign up at the top of Castlehaven Lane where it joins St Catherines Road, we walked for ages down...a bombsite of a track (no cars allowed, apparently, despite cars parked all the way down at various points) and arrived at this so-called "Beach Cafe" only to be told there was "no cake" to be had. Having completed a long, boring walk to get here and being hot and thirsty, we decided to stay for drinks and a snack of some description. Our party of seven adults and four children was then ushered onto wooden benches next to a caravan with a stunning view of a load of hoorays sitting at the tables in the restaurant area nearby. The hostess was enthusiastic but unhelpful and at no point were we shown the menu despite asking for it. After a wait of over twenty minutes, our drinks arrived – two bottles of "lovely" orange juice for two of the kids, three Cokes, two teas (not pots just half-filled cups) and three lattes, two of which were stone cold as if they'd been made with cold milk and that had to be sent back - how did no-one notice that when they were making them? We had also ordered four bowls of chips (three with their “special seasoning” and one without for the kids). After another long wait, four bowls of greasy chips arrived that stank of fish as if they’d been fried in the same oil as whatever overpriced fish dish was being served that day – if there was a “special seasoning” on the fries no-one could taste it through the fishy twang. Eventually we had to request the bill and, after yet another long wait, an uninterested young lad came over and proffered a slip of paper half-heartedly. The total came to over £70.00 which completely shocked and outraged us so we requested to talk to the Manager. The same hostess who had greeted us originally returned and an argument ensued with her claiming that the misleading sign up on the road ("Beach Cafe" should read “Clifftop Restaurant” - the beach is sixty feet below the place) was not her responsibility. She also claimed that the pricing was nothing to do with her because she was “just working here for the season”. Regardless of that she was roundly criticised for her pathetic attitude to customer service and for trying to avoid responsibility by fobbing us off with her lame story. She then changed tack and claimed that all the prices were clearly shown on the menu which made us laugh because, as previously mentioned, we hadn’t been shown a menu despite asking for it. This place is fit only for the type of hoorays we saw walking down the road with their ‘sweaters’ draped around their shoulders and wearing no socks inside their ‘loafers’ showing their ankles under their ankle-biter ‘slacks’. In other words, it’s for people with more money than sense who buy into a ridiculous ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ type of eating experience. Well, good luck to them is all I can say if they want to waste their money on this place, but we will not be returning. I advise anyone with good taste who is unpretentious and appreciates quality food at reasonable prices to avoid The True Food Kitchen Castlehaven like a dose of COVID.More

We tried this place having read about it online. When perusing the menu and struggling to make our choices, our server, Grace, suggested one of the taster options. What a great decision that was! Six courses, each perfectly prepared and presented, from scallops in a...crispy noodle nest, through a divine risotto, to the dolcelatte ice cream to finish. There was not a taste out of place. We had a bottle of their Alborino to accompany, though I believe a wine pairing flight is available also. Just a perfect meal in every way. This is an asian/fusion place, and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone on the Island looking for something a little different - and wonderful!More

Amazing location with great views of the sea, delicious food for all the family and friendly/attentive service. I had a tempura prawn poke bowl which was varied and tasty, my husband had crab bao bun also yummy, and my 2 children had chicken and chips...(chicken fresh and nicely cooked). We enjoyed the food and experience in equal measure. Was very popular on this particular sunny Saturday so was glad we booked.More

Exactly the same experience as Jack E. We arrived 10 minutes prior to opening at 12 and waited so we could have drinks before our pre-arranged lunch booking at the local pub. On several occasions the hostess, stood next to us, and never said a...word, when we eventually sat at a table in a COMPETELY empty restaurant we were asked to move and told all the tables were reserved and drinks could not be accommodated at lunch time. We suggested take away drinks would be absolutely fine but again were told to vacate an empty table in an empty restaurant and move to some deckchairs where we could be served. the hostess was appallingly rude and could do with some manners never mind training. I can’t comment on their food or drinks as we were so unwelcome we chose to leave. We had taken visiting family having stopped for drinks and ice cream the year before and was quite frankly embarrassed by the attitude and behaviour of the staff.More

This is a great little gem of a place for lunch or dinner. In an old caravan park, the tables are perched at the edge of the sea. The food is excellent and I think the same as the True Food Kitchen mothership in Ventnor....It’s very well cooked and at the high end of quality. We went twice we enjoyed it so much. The staff are very nice but a few inexperienced but that’s a bit expected as it’s very out of the way and it’s a seasonal business. All our dishes were cooked to perfection, they are open all afternoon so a late lunch is ideal. You can drive down to it BUT not recommend as the path is very potholed and rutted.if you have a 4x4 and don’t care about your paint job it’s fine.More

Stunning outside seaside cafe. Fabulous views, great sea food. The food was perfect, loved my monkfish dog. Easy to have food envy, but absolutely loved my Monkfish Dog washed down with a perfect pint of Goddards.

AMAZING kind of sums it up , location location , location, this is an outside venue, so nice weather only, set above the cliffs at Castle Haven, Niton, food is by the TFK guys in Ventnor and always awesome. It's my favourite spot on the...island, and you can walk around the path to St Catherine's light house for a photo opportunity.. The road down is not recommended, but its a lovely walk down @ 15 mins.More

We were so luck sat at our front-row table, watching the spectacular round the island yacht race in sizzling sun. What a wonderful place - even the getting there is an adventure - down the country lane from Niton and then down the steep grassy...slope towards the cliff edge. Great, honest, informal food - stylishly served - and a great ambience. So popular. Our friend Greta said she had to book a table back in February! It was certainly worth the trouble. Highly recommended.More

This is everything informal eating should be. The main ingredients?: sunshine, friends, lovely wine and amazing food. This is a pop-up place that emerged in those grim Covid days and is now a special feature of the Isle of Wight. It’s all outdoor eating -...open every day when it’s not raining. And in this patch of the Island, sunshine is the default setting. A young, enthusiastic team, under the watchful eye of Kelly, serve up delicious fresh food. My catch of the day - sea bass, served with fries and coleslaw - was the best sea bass I’ve ever had. Pan-fried and dressed in lemon and capers, it was quietly magnificent. The cooking is pan-Asian, understated, and beautiful. Keep an eye on the forecast, find some friends, then head for a lively meal in the southern sun. It’s wonderful.More

It is a bit off the beaten track, but to have a tasty meal with a drink alfresco, with the views that True Food at Castlehaven provides is a real treat. We always book ahead, and then walk 4 miles along the coastal path to...have lunch here (sometimes catching the bus back). The flavours and freshness of the food, and the friendly service is hard to beat - well worth a visit. And if the weather turns, they do have a marquee. A hidden gem of a place.More
