This is one of our favourite restaurants. The menu is always changing. On this visit we had roast beef and gammon which was well cooked and accompanied by potatoes and vegetables. The range of deserts was excellent. We had tart and passion fruit soufflé - both were really nice. Service was efficient.

This is the third or fourth time we have visited and had arranged our office Christmas party (only 4 of us!). Had ordered the 3 course Christmas meal, but they had forgotten. Eventually received the first course - soup was watery, pate OK but were still waiting for the wine order which was a bottle of red and a glass... More

Booked the private Cromwell Room for a 70th birthday Sunday lunch. Arriving early at 12pm for a 1pm seating, the staff couldn't be more helpful - especially as the manager had been up since 04:00 dealing with a storm induced power cut. The Cromwell room is perfect for small, private parties of 10 or less. Again, although tucked out the... More

I read some mixed reviews before going but I must say, I found it a very pleasant experience all round. I was concerned that we were the only table in there at 7:30 but it soon filled up. The food was excellent, I had the pork belly and cheek (may have been a special actually) and would certainly have it... More

Wow, where do I start, we went there for a family retirement celebration meal. We left totally disappointed and let down. The service was diabolically slow. No real enthusiasm from the staff. We were shown to our table, given the menu and then the waiter walked off. He came back 10mins later and asked if we wanted drinks which then... More

Having eaten at the "old Crab" many times over the years the personality and quirkeness has been replaced by a bland interior a million miles away from the old. I ordered the mackeral starter, which was both raw, and part cooked, and cold. I had no idea what it was supposed to be but neither of us liked it. The... More

Once upon a time 14 or so months ago was a divine seafood restaurant called 'The Crab at Chieveley', it served the best seafood for many miles and had a deserved high reputation. It is no longer! 'Crab and Boar' is nothing but a grotesque travesty of what once was. A culinary horror to be avoided at all costs. Betjeman's... More

Visited with friends for lunch. Staff very helpful and friendly, quickly resolving an issue with our reservation. Attractive stylish restaurant. Small but very good menu. We ended up having 3 courses. Starters and Mains were excellent, but we were all much less impressed with desserts. Good choice of wines, but on the pricey side. 10% Service charge automatically added to... More

Met with friends for Sunday lunch; choose the crab and boar as a halfway house and some of us have visited in it's previous incarnation as the the Crab @ Chievley. Place has had a makeover and initial impression when walking into the bar is positive; friendly staff but oddly quiet for a peak lunchtime service. Then taken through to... More

I enjoyed dinner here; expecting 'The Crab' which was fine dining, the Crab and Boar is a good pub with an uncomplicated menu, I enjoyed the meal and overall i would recommend. The staff were welcoming, if not a little rushed off their feet.

Description
We're a country pub and all of our menus showcase the best of Britain with plenty of fresh, local produce and dishes that tip their hats to the seasons. Whether you want to indulge in rich local game, fresh-off-the-boat crab or just kick off your wellies and relax with a pint and a scotch egg, here you'll get a true taste of the great British countryside. It's not just our food that we're proud of here, we've also spent time picking the best local ales and award-winning British spirits and wines for behind our bar, alongside some old favourites. From Sipsmith artisan gin to Nyetimber bubbles, make sure to take some time to sample our drinks menu too. We even stock Snuffle dog beer for any canine companions. We are proud to have received 2 Rosettes and 4 Stars for our accommodation by the AA. We are also part of 'Pub group of the year 2016' by the Good Pub Guide.
