So it takes A LOT for me to write a bad review. I have been to this pub countless times in the last ten years, but man oh man last night was such an awful experience it would take some convincing to get me back....Such a shame…..we went for for a drink and hopefully some nibbles after school pick up. Three adults, three 12 year olds. As soon as we arrived it was like they were doing us a favour…,”kitchen shut until 6pm”…, me - “ok so have you got any crisps for the boys?”….the answer was “yeah, there” - as they were pointed to on the bar. We were put us on a table where we could smell smoke, cold, away from the core pub, Both fires were on… and only one table taken. So obviously they didn’t want us there - but seemed surprised when we decided to not eat and leave. Our friends dog went for a wander, she felt humiliated when she collected him, and told off despite the pub having a dog. Honestly guys, arrogance is not what you need to be showing after the last two years surely?!More

Comfortable surroundings and delicious food. We had Sunday dinner, pork for my husband and squash for me. Both were lovely and delicious cheese to follow. Breakfast was fresh and good quality. Our only quibble was the room we stayed in. A bit dusty behind the...bed and the bathroom needed attention. The sink was cracked and the toilet set loose.More

Fantastic beautifully restored country pub with a warm and welcoming feel . All the staff were friendly and attentive wine and cocktails list was extensive , menu is gourmet and limited but all sounded superb , we tried nibbles , cod and steak as main..., not a bit was left on the plates , would highly recommend for anyone who appreciates great gourmet food at reasonable prices , a hidden gem of a pub and will return in the new year 😁More

Simply wonderful. Staff are so relaxed and so friendly. The food is, and always has been superb. I can’t fault it. The halibut now is simply divine. The sauce is amazing. I asked for bread to mop the sauce up. Jokingly said that, for dessert,...I wanted more sauce and bread. Lo and behold a plate of sauce and mussels with bread arrived. Perfect service.More

We stayed two nights here and ate breakfast but not dinner. We had a recently refurbished room dominated by a large bath but which was otherwise rather compact. It was difficult to find space for our belongings. The bed was small which isn't ideal as...one of us is exceptionally tall. The room was clean (if cramped). Breakfast was satisfactory even if the service was a little odd. The worst part of our stay was that servicing of our room was overlooked, which was unwelcome after we'd been out for several hours including dinner. We complained about this, and to their credit a substantial discount was applied (making this review 3 rather than 2). Still, I'm afraid we can't recommend this as an overnight venue.More

I have always been a fan of this lovely place and have never been disappointed until today. The food was well below standard and the menu limited for me. Good service and nice people but I did not enjoy our lunch as I always have....Sorry Mole and Chicken Clare SmithMore

Its not often I feel the need to write on Trip Advisor but on this occasion I wanted to say how much we enjoyed our meal and evening out. The pub was lovely, with a great atmosphere and welcome which is so important. The facilities...were clean with everything provided and lovely smelling soap! The food was exceptional and we all enjoyed our meals. The menu was not over complicated and the food was beautifully presented and well cooked. Top chef! Well done! Friendly and welcoming staff. We will definitely visit again! KJones OxfordshireMore

Visited yesterday (Tues 28th Sept) as we were in the area. My wife and I really enjoyed the food, and the service was great. The pate brûlée was top drawer and so was the pork with charred hipsi cabbage. Knockout actually. The flavours of smoke...were just incredible. We were told the head chef is quite new to the job here. Well seriously, well done, spot on in every aspect. We will be back.More
