Never have I ever visited a venue for a Sunday roast that was as bad as this. The roast beef beyond overcooked - I was served my place with lumps of dried out beef that any chef should have been ashamed to put on a...plate. The gravy had zero flavour, very synthetic and was exactly the same gravy on the so called 'porchetta' roast. Really surprised given this place has a butcher shop and is a lovely looking establishment.....and not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Really disappointing and to be honest ruined a family afternoon birthday get together. There was also a lot of confusion around desserts. One that was on the main menu was listed as a fruit baked cheesecake. On the specials menu it was chocolate. I requested the fruit one and was served the chocolate one....simple mistake, however, I was then confronted with a menu which strangely didn't have a fruit cheesecake listed on it- suggesting I imagined the fruit cheesecake??? Really???!! The whole service was chaos, we were here for two and a half hours, the service was beyond slow. Absolutely awful food and service....these were not mistakes or oversights....I should have photographed the meat as it was obvious it was unpalatable The place might look desirable -but avoid at all costs.More

Lovely Sunday roast, which was slow cooked beef. Two of us had that. Friend had the veggie roast, which she enjoyed. The fourth member of our party had ham, egg and chips, so there was something for everyone. Good wine. Took the dog too.

Lovely pub/restaurant. Visted Saturday night with friends. We eat in the restaurant upstairs. Very busy, good atmosphere, warm welcome and varid menu. Up till now 5 stars, the food was 3 stars. Two of the starters were poor, one main course was dried out, think...had been under the warmer to long and another just ok. Maybe we were unlucky.More

First time to the pub and honestly all round lovely experience. The staff were super friendly and couldn't fault at all. Then the food was spot on, great simple food with good selection. I would highly recommend and can't wait to go back.

Really sad. What used to be my favourite pub of all time now is the most average place and I was really disappointed. We had lunch and the food was below average for a total of £80 for two starters and mains. The FoH staff...were all crowded round the bar having a gossip and not actually working it seemed. Won’t be back unless it changes hands again. Such a shame.More

The Pointer offers an experience which is equally as fun and energetic as it is relaxing and calming. My family and I booked an evening meal in December and were incredibly impressed. We were welcomed by two members of staff who effortlessly wore big smiles...and we were then swiftly shown to our table in the bar area at the front of the pub. This was great for us as we enjoyed the hustle and bustle of the pub and its guests whilst maintaining a level of privacy on our cosy table in the corner. The food was faultless. I ordered a Sunday roast, the beef, and it may have been one of the best I’ve had. The meat was generous, well cooked, and succulent. The potatoes well crisped and the vegetables still firm, yet bursting with flavour. Our waitress, whose name has sadly escaped my memory, was a delight. She helped us pair our wines of the evening to our main courses and her knowledge was extensive and certainly welcomed. The atmosphere in the pub was friendly and inviting and I know my wife appreciated the Pointer Dog decor scattered throughout from wall art to ornaments. Overall a very enjoyable experience and I would recommend without hesitation. I very much look forward to my next visit to this beautiful country pub.More

Family headed to The Pointer for Christmas Day. Stayed in the cottage behind the pointer and the cottage is IMMACULATE! Absolutely loved the decor and cottage modern twist. Having breakfast each morning was perfect but the Christmas Dinner was just spot on. Amazing sausage stuffing...and the lobster starter was equally as good! Only good things to say about this pub. 100% recommend for anyone whether it be for Christmas Day or drinks after a walk around the mill. Worth the stop ☺️More

This pub has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. As a non-alc drinker, I was delighted to find they sell Lucky Saint on draught, always a plus for me. The family throughly enjoyed their Christmas lunch, excellent quality and plenty of it, and the service...was attentive but never intrusive.More

Solo visit for a quick lunch I visited in my own for a quick lunch about 4pm on a Saturday. The pub was quiet when I entered and I went straight to the bar. And asked to order a main which was welcomed. I ordered...the chicken burger. I ordered my pint and burger at the bar and sat down to a table I showed myself. (Was an empty table infront of the bar) Once the chicken burger came it was missing the Korean sauce and also looked and tasted very over cooked. I ate the main that I was presented with and found it over done and not 100% enjoyable especially with no sauce. I also as a diner was not checked on once whilst eating my food which I personally found very unprofessional. I was also not happy that I had to go to the bar to pay for my beer and chicken burger myself. (Without an ask from a member of staff showing the lack of service in the pub) They also did not clear my plate before I had left and finished my meal Hence showing the fact that a member of staff had forgotten to check on me during my meal and also to ask if I would like a desert and if not would I like the bill. Overall a bad customer experience In both competence and experience.More

Family had booked table for eight as birthday celebration for myself, so mixture of adults and teens. Super long table, in the bar area, we knew one family member was going to be late, but chef held off the mains until the late comer was...almost here, duly arrived as the mains were coming out. Timed to perfection. Mixture of starters, crab pate, fish gourgeons and the special fish-cake all superb. Mains were the fish pie, fish & chips, steak ,special small portion of the spiced chicken, and chicken burger, all freshly cooked, piping hot and very tasty. This was a first visit based on friends recommendation, and will not be our last trip to Brill. A fabulous birthday treat, and the whole pub joined in with a rendition of Happy Birthday as the cake was brought out. Credit were credit is due, service was super, food was excellent, intend to try Sunday lunch for next visit.More

A two-night stay resulting from a voucher gift package- and what a brilliant find! The Longhorn room was large and warm, with a very comfortable bed and a really beautiful bathroom. Bathrobes and very nice toiletries included. The food was wonderful- the full English was...just that! Every member of staff was helpful and courteous.More

The reason why I am writing this review is because I noticed that the fish and chips failed to please a reviewer earlier this month, so I told other members of my group about this .They ordered the fish anyway and when asked said it...was very good. I ordered the barbequed Korean chicken which was good. Service good friendly staff.More

Disappointing slide. We visited the pointer in the past and generally had very good experience. Yesterday we visited the pointer for dinner and had to return two calamari starters for being over cooked, and one main course when the steak was not cooked as ordered....That said some members of our party had very good experience of their food. To their credit they replaced all the items we returned and never charged us for the items. I think the problems stemmed from new staff and being busy due to the amount of covers all being booked in a narrow window of time.More
